The sock on the stair!! Is there anything more annoying!!

This morning I brought a huge armful of washing downstairs. It was a dark wash. Put it in the machine and set it going . (40°. Some of it needed it!). A bit later I went back upstairs, and there it was! Nestling gently, snoozing in the sun. Just like Christopher Robin, it was sitting half way up the stairs! One single, solitary, lonely sock. The one with a triceratops on the ankle. Oh the fury and frustration! It must be the most annoying occurrence ever! Knickers on the stairs are bad but despite them being called a pair, a pair of knickers is only one item. It does not have a twin, a soul mate, in a completely separate location. So what to do with the sock on the stair and its soon to be clean partner. Put it back in the linen basket and wait for the next dark wash? Run the risk of putting it in with tomorrow's white wash? And what about its other half? Do I leave it hanging , waiting for it's mirror image to return? Do I put it away and then next wash day wonder why I have one odd sock? Or do I return it to the linen basket despite it's being clean, so at least they are reunited? Oh! The anguish!!

Socks come in pairs?

By far the worst is the undiscovered tissue left in a pocket. Now that infuriates me.

Nandalot

I have a stash of about nine odd socks. Every time I sort the clean laundry, I check to see if anyone’s partner has been found. Alas no. My question is, where have they gone?

I found one today between the laundry basket and the basket liner.

The sock on the stairs happened to me so many times, so now I count the socks into the washing machine, and if I have an odd number I retrace my steps to find the lost little soul.

My washing machine ties all my tights into many knots. It tries to involve long sleeved blouses and also leggings. I don’t watch it wash as I’m afraid there is some hanky panky going on!

Well, at least you found the missing sock!

Our late cat had the reprehensible habit of stealing and killing one of DH's socks. Actually, the socks usually survived the treatment, but finding them !

The dear departed, at the time called; that little brat! left them in the oddest places, none clearly visible to the naked eye, and none anywhere near the other sock!

I seem to wash so often (why? there are only us two!) that the odd socks don't have long to wait before they rejoin their partners. They take a break from each other on my dressing table where absence makes heart grow fonder.

How about just dabbing it out yourself…. and putting on line ….it’ll be there waiting for your wash- load to keep it company.

Oh, yes! paperjacketblog.wordpress.com/2019/09/05/sock-it-to-me-4/

I always put parts of a pair that have lost their other half back into the laundry basket in the theory that eventually the missing bit will surface, go in there too, and be reunited.

Happens to me nearly every time I put a wash, I’m used to it now!

My little granddaughter who’s 3 will only wear odd socks because that’s what her other grandpa does. It’s a dream for my daughter and washing lol

You just wash the lone sock by hand, it can then join its partner on the dryer/ line. Simples!

And what about the rogue tissue in the pocket, even after you have checked all the pockets? Nothing more annoying than having all the dark stuff covered in white bits.

That poor sock - imagine how it felt being left on the stairs while its twin happily went off to the washing machine. Then its owner talked about her fury at finding it, she had no sympathy whatsover. The poor sock must now be badly traumatised and will probably need counselling - maybe there's a support group for missing socks where it can declare "I too was left alone on the stairs". Hopefully there are lawyers on here who can give it some legal advice.

I hand wash the odd sock, then bung it in the dryer to await it's partner.

GrannyLaine My washer has got a pause facility. It's very useful. It's a Hotpoint SmartTech.

I tried buying socks the same colour. One pack was all black, one pack has grey heels! Both bought at same time, you just can’t win.

I haven't got any stairs but it still happens.....

My daughter in law always wears odd socks in support of Down Syndrome awareness. She has a Down Syndrome nephew.
I support Down Syndrome awareness but could never wear odd socks. I’m far too OCD to do that.

Oooo I'd love the washing machine in the bathroom.

My daughter likes the laundry basket in the living room, to be near to the washing machine (that end of the house) but who wants a laundry basket in the living room?????

My grandson has at least 10 socks awaiting partners. I've also started buying him black socks now so stop this occurence. All identical.

I found a pillow case at the bottom of the bed after i had put thw wash on,just quickly washed it by hand whilst cursing through gritted teeth.
And as for socks ggggrrrrrrrr.

Teacheranne I had three girls so they had all the same white M&S socks. If they weren’t dry they had a few shots of seconds in the microwave
Other than that as Kitty says, I have noticed DGDs wear odd socks

Oh my goodness....hate it when that happens! I can interrupt my machine if I’m quick enough, think I get about 4 minutes...but usually wouldn’t go back upstairs in that time. We have a corner at the top of the stairs, so just looking up the main case wouldn’t help.

I have been known to hand wash the offending item, before putting it in dirty clothes bucket, if I’d sanitised that and it was empty. Still gets the other sock added to it after the wash has finished, and waits for next wash....
