Vanity thy name is woman (yes I know it’s a misquote)

I have a terminal cancer diagnosis and have just had second session of chemotherapy which I hope will buy me time. I shall sign up for any trials offered and plan to cling on as long as I can !
I have a wig ready. I had my hair cut very short last week and it looked fabulous though I say it myself (actually so did everyone else !)
But today my hair is almost gone.. Why am I so upset? What does it matter really ?
Actually I think I have to admit I’ve always been rather vain. I care what I look like, how I dress etc. (for myself not other peoples opinion) Do you ?

Sorry…I’ve rambled on.j

Fanny your comment seems rather flippant towards the OP, considering her sad news. I may have got it wrong, of course, as tone is difficult to ascertain.

I think you might have.

We are all different of course but sometimes a bit of lightheartedness is a welcome relief in these situations. And from my experience of Fanny’s posts, she is concerned and caring. And from my experience of Lucca, she has a sense of humour

It’s because she said that she was crying.
I was offering her a metaphorical tissue, just as I would pass her one in real life.
I also gave her ‘a massive, massive hug’ up thread.
I’ve ‘known’ Lucca for a good while.
I have sent her an email this morning.
I’m not happy at all about having to reply like this on Lucca’s thread, (sorry Lucca) but I really needed to clarify things.

It is bloody awful MissA.

MissAdventure Thu 07-Apr-22 12:10:42

It's bloody awful.
I have bald patches all over.

It was never exactly my crowning glory, but it's part of who I am.
Being bald isn't.

Kate1949 Thu 07-Apr-22 12:05:46

Nobody will say that Lucca. Well nobody who has experienced hair loss anyway.

Lucca Thu 07-Apr-22 11:59:08

And now you’ve made me cry !!

It’s odd how I have decided to share this with people I dont know but it’s kind of comforting.

Galaxy ! Agreement ? We can’t have that. Maybe someone will come along and say “ yes you are being ridiculously vain ! Get a grip (A hair grip?) woman “

Honeysuckleberries Thu 07-Apr-22 11:50:19

So sorry to hear your news Lucca, sending you healing thoughts and best wishes. ?

Blondiescot Thu 07-Apr-22 11:49:47

I'm sorry for your news, Lucca flowers and I don't think it's vanity at all. It's about what makes you feel good and what helps you face the day. Some people are fine with losing their hair, others may choose a wig, or a headscarf or whatever. It's all about finding what you feel most comfortable with.
Oh, and please do keep 'rambling' on as much as you want...

AGAA4 Thu 07-Apr-22 11:49:24

Lucca ??? It's all been said by others. Stay strong.

maddyone Thu 07-Apr-22 11:43:13

Lucca I’m so sorry to hear your news. ? and a big bear hug are sent to you.
Vanity? Hell no.
If you see your reflection in a mirror or a shop window and it makes you feel good that’s a big tick. A PMA and everything necessary for it is high up my wish list for you.
LauraNorderr you’ve nailed it.

Cherrytree59 Thu 07-Apr-22 10:45:42

Lucca you are one brave lady and not in the least bit vain.

My hair causes me quite a lot of problems fine flyaway etc etc but I would definitely mourn it's loss.

I hope you are able to find some really bright comfy scarves.

Please post when you are up to it.
I would be happy to listen to a rant if you so wish and also share your good days and bad days.
I know there will always be support for you on Gransnet. ? X

JenniferEccles Thu 07-Apr-22 10:39:51

I’m perfectly certain you do look fabulous in your new wig Lucca and my goodness don’t you deserve it after getting such devastating news.
I’m pleased you’ve started your own thread, and as you can see, everyone is rooting for you.
Best of luck with any treatment or trials offered to you.

Jaxjacky Thu 07-Apr-22 10:20:16

Sad news Lucca.
It’s not vanity, but another part of you that you’ve lost control over, by getting wigs, turbans or scarves, you’re taking some control back.
Difficult times ahead for you, lots of us lovely people here will always be available to listen, chat, commiserate and send strength. X
