Exciting I know! I am looking for a dinner (4 x plates side plates and bowls) not made in China but cheaper than Denby! Help!

I use white on an every day basis from Asda but I have sets acquired from charity shops floral and gold rimmed. I love them for special occasions. The downside food has to be served piping hot on them as they can’t be microwaved.

Denby Pottery village is well worth a visit.

Our crockery is all Denby.
I bought a full set from Denby nearly 20 years ago.
I have had some top up pieces (serving dishes, rice bowls etc) from Denby Seconds, from eBay and have also had great Denby bargains in John Lewis sales.

My partner is very heavy handed and Denby is the best value for money for us, as it rarely chips. When we were younger we had white crockery from IKEA, but it got chipped quite quickly and needed regular replacement.

denbylover I have always been a denby fan and am using Midnight on a daily basis I just love it,I have most of the set now and if by any chance breakages do occur I scroll through e-bay and will more than likely find a replacement.

Charity shops are a great source of quality China..

I had a full set of Denby Greenwheat years ago, but it all got broken. We must be a clumsy family, the bowls would break neatly in half if dropped.
I now have plain white from JL with the odd piece from Wilko and Asda.

Now I cannot decide which denby set to start collecting.!

Have a look at your next local auction. I have beautiful Royal Doulton I tried to sell but they were inundated with such china dinner services and said they sold for sweeties.

I love Denby too denbylover, you can’t beat it for quality and durability. Quite a bit of mine came from the Denby seconds shops, where you can get it much cheaper than the full price online.

I also bought most of my Denny crockery from the seconds shop. I bought 12 of everything as I had a family of 6 at the time and wanted to use it as day to day crockery and also for entertaining. I’ve used it every day for over 35 years and have not broken any items. I love the casserole dishes and jugs when I have people round. I looked on it as an investment which has certainly paid dividends!

I forgot to say you can also buy individual pieces. That's part of the reason I went for them because I have a tendency to be quite clumsy and knock plates together when loading and unloading the dishwasher and they are chip resistant too which means I haven't had to replace anything as yet. I'm really pleased with them.

I bought mine from Wayfair a few years ago now and they look like they've just come out of the box. They are used daily and go in the dishwasher daily too. They were bought to replace a set from John Lewis that were beginning to show their age and looks wise they are virtually identical.
They are White Linen by Fairmont and Main. Apparently country of origin is Thailand and I had to look that up for you because it wasn't particularly important to me.

I wonder where that ‘n’ came from ?

NanKate Mon 11-Apr-22 21:51:13

Denby for us too n?☕️

denbylover Mon 11-Apr-22 20:54:45

That’s the thing isn’t it Casdon, you don’t seem to tire of it. We use Greenwitch every day, similar to yours but obviously with a green band, an older set now, the beauty being that replacements are available if needed, but because of the durability they luckily seldom are. In a weak moment also bought Regency Green in an 8 place setting. Om goodness and then there’s the accessories, but think I’m done, the enjoyment here is using the pieces regularly.

I’ve got Imperial Blue, it’s been made for years and is still one of the most popular - because it’s plain I’m not bored with it, and even stuff I had 25 years ago still looks new.

Casdon. Hi, gosh what I wouldn’t give for a browse through the seconds shop! Heaven! Would definitely send luggage allowance through the roof though?. You’re so lucky in the UK to have this make freely available. Although perhaps on second thoughts it might be just as well I live over this side of the world, so so tempting. Have a lovely day crockery lovers, hoping no one has a breakage?

Ragtime Mon 11-Apr-22 20:31:56

Yes I have been pondering which to go for...what's the classic..one that won't be discontinued!

Purpledaffodil Mon 11-Apr-22 20:31:14

Have you had a look in charity shops? Ours has lovely high end, English made dinner sets very cheaply.

denbylover Mon 11-Apr-22 20:21:44

Oh good on you! Yes, buy a piece as funds allow, I’m absolutely sure you’ll be pleased you did. The only bugbear…..how do you choose, love almost everyone of their designs?. Please tell us which one you finally settled on, well that’s if you do decide to go Denby, happy shopping. But whatever make you choose new crockery is always nice.

Hi denbylover

I am thinking you are right. Holding a Denby plate yesterday in dunelm..there was no comparison! I think I may just buy a piece a month!

kittylester Mon 11-Apr-22 19:55:59

I lovevDenby too and bought all mine at the seconds shop.

They just last too long!! I know that is an awful thing to say but mine went to a good home.
