Research suggests that

His dad was from Turkey
His mum was from Syria
He was a soldier in the Roman forces
He died in Palestine
He never visited England
He didn't kill a dragon
He is a Christian saint
He is a Muslim and Jewish prophet

The message from Saint George is that it does not matter what nationality you are, be kind and do good to people, whoever they are!

Happy #StGeorgesDay

I can’t look at the flag without seeing racist skinheads so I ll never be able to take it back as that is what other countries see probably…. drunken, football skinheads So it’s gone for me in fact I never call myself English I m British

St Edmund was the original patron saint I don’t know much about him either Why do we have patron saints does all religions believe in saints and how does that cover nonbelievers/ agnostics/ atheists Probably the bigger majority

I think Ireland, Scotland, Wales love their flags and patron saints day because it keeps them away from association with England ?

It’s also supposed to be William Shakespeare’s birthday. When I was younger I used to wear a red rose (artificial one) on St. George’s Day. We should celebrate it more.

I think it’s such a shame that our English flag has been hijacked by certain groups which makes others reluctant to fly it. Perhaps we should retaliate and indeed, fly it and claim it back.
We should be proud of our flag in the same way other countries are proud (and rightly so) of theirs. ???????.
Yes, urmstongran I’ve seen it flown on churches, too, which is good to see.

How sad to see English people feeling shame for being English.

It always flies above our village church, but recently has been joined with that of Ukraine ??????? ??

Happy St George's day .Like Maw I feel its a shame the St Georges Cross has been hijacked by drunks and bigots .My English family dont celebrate the Saints day ,but then neither do most of my fellow Scots celebrate ours .Hopefully the sun will shine on all who are celebrating today

Happy St George's Day. My family are from Southern Ireland but I was born here. It's a shame more isn't mad if today. We always used to go to the annual St Patrick's Day Parade here in Birmingham which was huge and a great day out.

made of not mad if hmm

We can never take it back because the damage around the world has been done perhaps it’s time for an entirely new one

St George sounds a good bloke but perhaps because of his association with a non existent animal ( presumed to represent the devil) people don’t associate him with a real chap at all and his story is not universally known especially by the future generation

We used to have a St George's Parade here but some of the more patriotic Welsh parents refused to allow their children to take part and it was abandoned.
