Words of Wisdom

Recently I read:

"Spend the weekend working towards the life you want instead of recovering from the life you have"

That one hit me hard.

Do you have any wise words to share that have inspired you?

Smileless2012 Sun 24-Apr-22 18:04:26

Those words have served me well over the years Blondiescote. I also like 'Look how far you have come and see how far you can go'.

I cannot agree with " this too will pass " sadly some things never pass and in fact get worse .

Smileless2012 Sun 24-Apr-22 18:09:33

Floradoraflowers that's also true.

Never go to bed on an argument, stay up and row about it all night.

Love it MissA! grin

You cannot prevent the birds of sadness from passing over your head, but you can prevent them making a nest in your hair.
I’m not sure whether I’ve always managed to keep them away though ?‍♀️

‘If you can’t say anything nice say nothing’.
I remember that mantra from my Mum.

VioletSky Sun 24-Apr-22 18:33:52

Arewethereyet that reminds me of

"Don't rely on others for your happiness"

I also like

"If a job's worth doing it's worth doing well"

Chewbacca Sun 24-Apr-22 18:50:23

"Don't start what you can't finish" is a good maxim that I've always followed.

Aldom Sun 24-Apr-22 18:56:00

Forgiving is not forgetting,
It's remembering, and letting go.

"Learn to love the sound of your feet walking away from something that is not healthy for you"

Good one MissAgrin

Life is right now and not a rehearsal so live it there is no second chance.

Life is a game of bingo when your number is called it's time to go.

Chewbacca Sun 24-Apr-22 23:53:24

You can't start a new chapter in your life unless you stop re-reading the last one. The past is the past. Don't let it hold you back. Move forward and don't look back.

Procrastination is the thief of time
and
My mum’s mantra - never a borrower or a lender be. But then she didn’t know what a mortgage was - those days you saved and bought a house with hard cash

It's all very well having sayings but mainly they don't help me I feel.

So if I think about the first one from violetsky -
"Spend the weekend working towards the life you want instead of recovering from the life you have"

This is all very well if you actually don't need to recover from the week you've had. If the week you've had has left you with enough energy to "work towards the life you want" then fair enough. Otherwise it seems like a recipe for a melt-down.

What other people think of you is none of your business

TheodoraP Mon 25-Apr-22 02:43:23

My Mum's favourite

Action speaks louder than words

My Dad's favourite

Manners cost nothing

Two wrongs don't make a right

Sorry I'll shut up now

Holding on to anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.

"08BlueBelle

If you always do what you ve always done you ll always get what you’ve always got"

This really applies to me, in fact I've kept a note of it, thanks Bluebelle. Sometimes a saying really resonates with you, and your current circumstances or state of mind.

Life is what happens when you are making other plans.
My mum used to say your biggest fear will probably never happen and if it does you will cope with it-something I have found true.

I understand, I have Graves and Fibromyalgia.

I am trying to find a balance, I am feeling very achy after a busy weekend... Not the best start to monday before work but proud of what was accomplished

Maybe it only has to be a thought of better times ahead?

Thanks for starting the thread VioletSky I hope I remember some of these nuggets of wisdom in the week ahead!

Dad's favourite saying was: Honesty is the best policy, cheaters never prosper.
