Hello!smile

I really fancy a natter; but, unfortunately I find myself totally bereft of humorous or interesting Thread Starters.

I’ve gone blank.
No creativity whatsoever.
Not an ounce of wit.
Not a smidgen of originality.

Talk to me - please! smile

(I’m going to make a cup of tea, and when I return I hope that someone is here brew)

(Autocorrect turned smidgen into ^smug Ron^; poor old Ron, and his wife)

Now, this is a true story. Years ago, I had an old mini metro. I was just about to drive off , from my house, when my handsome Collie stood in front of my car, barking, refusing to move ….my husband (now Ex) managed to pull her away so that I could drive off and so I did. About a mile down the road, I noticed smoke coming through the bonnet. I stopped, turned off the engine and walked back home. Husband called the AA and matter was dealt with. ( can’t remember, but it was a serious fault with the engine). Heaven knows what would have happened if I had continued to drive. My collie was trying to warn me. Man’s best friend. In this case, woman’s …

Yes, I’ve read lots of her books.
But I’m ashamed to say that I can’t remember her name.
She is an amazing author

When my Ocado order arrived last night, I found that had mistakenly ordered 2 dozen eggs (very lovely Burford ones thankfully), Quorn buffalo vegan chicken wings and a special 40th anniversary edition of Dear Zoo. Also included, but not on the order receipt was a little yellow rubber duck!
My OH thinks I might have been drinking when I ordered, but I last had a drink on Christmas Day, so really have no idea what happened. I very rarely order from Ocado I really must check it thoroughly next time.

Cats really are awful creatures. Full stop

(Ducks for cover)

grin. I’m not sure about using ducks to cover them, though. The ducks might get eaten.

Callistemon21 yes A short History of Tractors in Ukrainian unexpectedly brilliant and funny and touching.

I always think of The Woman and her ambition to have a proper gas cooker “not crap electric one like in Ukraine”

I have moved recently and it has taken me a month to work out how the ceramic hob works (or doesn’t)
Thank God for microwaves and toasters is all I can say

Did a TV version get made or have I imagined that? It was a good 13 or 14 years ago now

Sorry, Marydoll, it was my cat. blush I’ll tell him off when he wakes up. And has had his tea. And his medications. And sat on our laps. Amd tripped us up. And eaten part of my house plants. Of course, he’ll probably be asleep again by then. ??

You cat is very lucky that I am in a forgiving mood, (and that I live a fair distance from you!) Sue. wink

I was staying with my DD last week and every morning when I came out of my room the cat was sitting outside the door. She would stalk past me with that superior but resentful look (if you have a cat you may know the one) and jump on the bed and settle for the day.
My DD said it was the cat's room and that was why she was annoyed.

Callistemon21 yes A short History of Tractors in Ukrainian unexpectedly brilliant and funny and touching.

I usually pass paperback books on but I kept that one. I must read it again.

SunshineSally Sun 01-May-22 20:06:26

Yes I have that book too - a present from my DS. A surprisingly good read ?

I’ll tell him he’s forgiven when he wakes up, Marydoll.grin

This pair have never caught a thing, Callistemon. One died last year ? but even with the two of them, they had no clue what to do. We had a mouse in once and they sat about six inches away from it in a corner and watched while I tried to catch it. What’s that about having a dog and barking yourself? ?

Nana3 Sun 01-May-22 22:36:41

My dgs's cat bit him on his cheek. He asked Google what it means if your cat bites people and it said the cat is evil or morally wrong ?

That's the kind of cat I might like!
Actually, a cat which can tell the difference between a mouse (Catch!) and a bird (Leave!) might be the best.

My dad hated pigeons. He was a staunch anti-noise campaigner and if he was sitting in the garden and the pigeons were cooing on the telegraph wires overhead, he would clap once, loudly, to shoo them off so he could have some peace and quiet.

FannyCornforth Mon 02-May-22 08:25:45

Callistemon yes, I have read ‘A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian ’ and I really, really enjoyed it.
I’d forgotten all about it. I might read it again

Oh dear, Callistemon, you’ll have to bear with me…

GrandmaSue I love your little rubber duck! It’s adorable!
The Good Morningers have random flamingos, you have a random duck.
It must be very good luck.

CrazyH your story about your Collie is amazing

The seeds are out of the packet and planted. There are sweet peas and marigolds. Now I’m talking to two black containers of compost.
