Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 11°C.
Thank you Ash for opening up.
GM, pleased to hear better news of your DH.
Nice to see you posting here "paddyann*, your First Communion seems very much like mine.
Baubles, I hope your First Communion went well and Grannmarie, glad you are safely home.
Ours yesterday, was definitely problematic, to say the least. I got there early, to open up, but the church gates were locked and some jobsworths ( whom I know well ) refused to let me in, saying they were stewarding the car park. This was at 8.45am, and the Communion was at 10.30am.
They then complained the church was locked and they couldn't get in.
That' s because I CAN'T GET INTO OPEN IT, BECAUSE YOU WON'T LET ME.
We have been told not to let anyone in..
I AM THE XXXXXXXXX SACRISTAN AND IT IS ME, WHO OPENING UP THE CHURCH!! ? Sorry for the shouty capitals, but I was fuming.
I got out the car, and opened the heavy gates myself. (nearly killing myself and knocking my wing mirror in the process.!).
The last straw was when they told me off for parking in a disabled space. Their faces were a picture, when I put my Blue Badge on the dashboard. I tend to keep my difficulties very quiet and looking so well doesn't help either.
I'm afraid, the saw a different side to me, no longer Smiley Mary, but my alter ego, the scary teacher. She has been buried deep in my psyche for years! ?
On reflection, I could have been a bit more diplomatic.
Things went down hill after that. The young curate appeared, looking terrible. He had been in A&E all night, the Parish Priest had to be taken to hospital, with a suspected stroke. All this on First Communion Day and we have another one next week.
I spent most of the day in church, supporting the curate, trying to contact various people, and reassure, parishioners, as our PP runs two parishes and obviously services would have to be cancelled.
The young priest was flapping because he had to get items ready to take into hospital, but hadn't a clue, what to take.
Now that is my area of expertise, preparing a hospital bag! My list was rather long!
I was so tired, that for the first time in weeks, I slept until 6am. Every cloud........
It was pupils from my old school, who were making it, but I only recognised three teachers. The staff were so young.
I was delighted to see one of my ex colleagues, who had left and gone to work in another LA, but had returned. She had bowel cancer and had been very ill, I was absolutely delighted to see her and she me! However she informed me that another former colleague, had been diagnosed with RA and was now very ill after contracting Covid. That upset me greatly.
It was a bit off a full on day, to say the least.
Today will be a gentle one, the other sacristans are on duty today, thank goodness. DH needs a haircut and I may visit Dollie, she is unwell again.
Apparently, she was so upset that she couldn't be gran's helper at the Vigil Mass last night and there were many tears. ?
I give her little tidying up jobs to do, which she loves. It's a special time, just the two of us.
I will go back and read your posts, but in the meantime I wish you all a pleasant and peaceful Sunday.
