Do you iron tea towels

My mother who had one day off a month used to iron bra straps and underwear. She did not have time to enjoy the house she was too busy cleaning it

My latest ironing board has been in its wrapper for around 4 years and will stay there.

My MIL used to iron everything even white dish cloths and bras and pants. She once asked me to go and iron all her flanalette fitted sheets. Gosh that was a fight ironing those things. I only iron now when I have too and definitely not tea towels dishcloths underwear and especially not fitted sheets. My DD doesn’t iron anything apart from her midwife tunics.
I don’t think your mad at all though as I can understand how you’d want them all looking nice in the drawer.

I always iron tea towels because it sterilises them. If you have a burn or wound a fresh ironed tea towel is a good temporary dressing.

Yes I agree, they don’t fit in the drawer if you don’t iron them, and sad though I am, I like to see a nice clean, ironed tea towel on the rail every morning. What is worse, if my husband just shoves it on the rack anyhow it makes me very cross!

I'm in the ironing camp- tea towels and bed linen.
DD loves it when GC's come to stay and all their clothes are returned clean and ironed - she doesn't iron anything unless absolutely necessary.

I remember my mum ironing hankies and pressing each fold. No steam iron in those days but she used a jam jar of water with holes dad made in the lid. Bless them ?

I iron as little as possible but occasionally iron DHs shirts and trousers if he plans on doing it. I do it much faster than he does. The iron comes out when I’m sewing and need to press items

Some tea towels are ironed; it depends on the material/creases. Mr 1968 does our ironing - there isn't a lot, because we hang up clothing immediately after washing in order to minimise creases. So most of our ironing is cotton table linens & aprons.

I enjoy ironing and do the lot - yes, including tea towels - but not our underwear which is tumble-dried to sterilise it after a cold wash.

I particularly love getting into bed with freshly ironed bedding, it's so ... luxurious.

I set up the ironing board in front of the tv and enjoy a pleasant hour with something like Sewing Bee or Bake-off or anything with Monty Don; so I get to watch a programme that DH wouldn't enjoy and we get nicely ironed stuff. Win-win. And an hour a week at 10 in the morning doesn't eat into my social life, even better.

The only tea towel I iron is the redundant glass cloth that I now use as a pressing cloth when I am sewing. All my tea towels are terry cloth and don't need ironing. Life is far too short for ironing anything other than shirts, blouses, dress trousers, etc. Definitely don't iron underwear, sheets, towels, and who in their right mind would iron socks?!

Surely life is too short to spend it ironing unnecessarily? I do not iron bedding, underwear, nightwear, tea towels, or socks. I iron my outerwear and tablecloths. Two of my children simply hang things up when damp and don’t even own an iron. Elder son was in the Royal Marines and irons anything that moves. OH irons his things when he needs to.

If that is what makes you happy then keep on ironing them.

Personally for me I give my tea towels a good boil gets rid of
any type of bacterial stuff. They don't even get that dirty. All washed folded and back into the drawer.

Tea towels and pillow cases and duvet covers (only once every Preston Guild). Some t shirts, (just look better) damned hankies that OH insists on using. That's it. Apart from the duvet covers it takes 15 mins a week.

Always. My use, my pleasure. Not towelling ones, of course. Takes me all of 1 minute so I don't think my life has been in any way shortened by the indulgence.

I don't iron anything unless I have to. DH wears shirts that don't need it and I smooth and fold the rest.

My MIL certainly knew how to play the game, Friday night husband at the pub waited till nearly closing time and start ironing shirts which were individually hung as trophies from the picture rail. Oh boy was she adored.

I am an expert hanging washing to avoid ironing as much as possible.

I wonder when clothes irons were invented? it might give a clue as to why the older gnerations used them more - a modern gadget to them. One Aunt who was married to a farmer had a big Aga and heated the ironing fitting on the top of that.
There were sort of ironing presses too, one of my Ds in law had one of those. For a short time.
I used to enjoy ironing at one time but never teatowels. Ours are Terry too. listening to a Rock and Blues programme on the radio.

Nope, OH irons his good shirts (not the ones he wears in the garden etc) and if I leave something of mine in the pile he'll often iron it for me. When the aga is on it does all the ironing form me, in the summer I live with creases.
