Do you iron tea towels

I wonder when clothes irons were invented? it might give a clue as to why the older gnerations used them more - a modern gadget to them
Certainly they were around in the 1800s, Fennel and round goffering irons were used on ruffs way before then, I believe.

When I retired the iron and the ironing board also retired. I think it may be in a cupboard in one of the box rooms. Covered in dust.

I used to iron everything and it annoys me that my daughters don’t for their children. If the children stay here I get the iron out as I like to see them dressed with no creases.
That being said if their clothes (not underwear) don’t smell or look dirty I expect them to be worn again without being washed.

I have linen tea towels and yes I love to iron them, I’m sure they dry better?

If you fold items carefully then put them in a pile they 'iron' themselves! Also, roll or roughly fold some clothing before putting them in laundry bin keeps the wrinkles away.

I hate ironing but cannot bring myself to just put away without a quick smooth finish.If I am in a rush I do on occasions just fold underwear and tea towels so the pile to iron looks less.
My DIL irons very little my DS irons the kids and his own work shirt daily.
On the occasions I have done their ironing both DIL/DGD love the feel of ironed knickers.
Such a sad time wasting chore but we set our own standards.

It has to be a dire need for me to get the ironing board out. So much ironing is unnecessary and when the cost of electricity is so high it is not a sensible thing to do.

They do if you hold them down as you close the drawer.

I gave up ironing our sheets a few weeks ago.

Yes I iron tea towels, that way they store neatly in the kitchen drawer.

I iron the cotton and linen ones. The terry ones don't crease. I also iron shirts, trousers and dresses. Not underwear though.

When doing ironing for my mum, when I was young, I did iron tea towels and quite liked doing it.
As an adult, tho, I iron as little as possible which has meant nothing at all for the last few years.

If you like ironing, though, why ever not?

I iron the cotton ones if they’re creased, but I’ve cut down on ironing recently and fold those items before putting in airing cupboard. I always iron bedding, unless it’s dried in the sun & breeze on the washing line, smelling off fresh air.
My OH always used to say ‘my body heat will take out the creases’! ?. Well, that didn’t work. ?

Yes I iron tea towels. They lie flat in the drawer and are easier to use when not crumpled. I enjoy ironing anyway.

Ironing pants - definitely mad!!!!

I used to absolutely hate ironing when I worked full time and was a single parent with 2 children. There were always non essential items left in the basket! Now, I quite like it, no rush, listening to music - chilled!

'Fraid so. You are mad. If you hang them on the line when wet they will dry flat and all you have to do is fold them.

Most of my clothes are linen and when they come out of the washing machine - still a bit wet, I put them on hangers on the line and they dry beautifully. Not as crease free as if I'd ironed them but who cares?

Yes I iron tea towels and my OHs boxer shorts. I don’t have to but I like to see them crisp and ironed when I put them away and he says they feel better. I don’t mind ironing as it’s a chance to catch up on Gardener’s World or whatever on the TV whilst I’m at it. Yes definitely a bit barmy!

I don’t iron them but I’m a bit obsessive in the way I wash them. For some reason I get through a lot of tea towels. I don’t know why because I leave most things to drain so they don’t get wet. It’s probably because I tend to leave them lying around and I don’t have a specific place in the kitchen to hang them. And I used to have cats that used to climb all over the kitchen units.I wash them separately, tumble dry them a bit to get the creases out then dry them indoors. I don’t like putting them on the washing line because of birds perching on it and I can’t be bothered to clean it before I hang them out. I then fold them very carefully and put them in the tea towel drawer. I’m not at all fussy about other things so I don’t know why I’m so careful about tea towels. I do remember watching Tomorrows World when I was quite young. They did an experiment that showed that it was more hygienic to leave crockery to drain dry than to use a tea towel that wasn’t very clean. It must have left an impression on my young self!

I remember crying when I was newly married because DH had to wear collar detached shirts for work and they had to be just right. The collars had to be starched with Robin starch and I used to then singe them when I tried to iron them.
I also had no clue how to iron a shirt.
DH took them to the Chinese laundry where they did a perfect job.

I change mine twice a day, no ironing of tea towels here.

Tea towels are about the only thing I regularly iron. I only wash them at 30 degrees and use a laundry disinfectant and I think a hot iron will kill off any germs that have survived.
