Johnny Depp / Amber Heard Defamation Trial

Is anyone watching this?

Do you think Amber Heard is telling the truth about being abused by Johnny Depp or is she the abuser?

Obviously there are two sides to every story but I am inclined to be Team Johnny. He doesn't come across as a violent man, more a man who was frustrated at being baited and who then took his anger out on inanimate objects.

Amber Heard comes across as a manipulator. Why would she be recording all of the conversations anyway.

I could go on but just wonder what the Gransnetters thought.

The difference in the UK and US cases was that AH was allowed to present more evidence in the UK abd the UK case was decided on the law by a judge. In the US it was decided by ordinary jurors - this is what I understood.
Here's one of many articles about it:

I did ask Callistemon and appreciated the correction. It’s definitely A Thing. I agree Amber H didn’t cover herself in glory, or help the cause of women locked into abusive relationships. It seems crazy to conclude Depp wasn’t abusive when it’s clear they had a toxic mutually abusive relationship.

I don't usually correct spellings and grammar, Iam64. Apologies ?

Yes, I can think of other couples where that would apply.

Iam64 Sat 04-Jun-22 20:52:34

Thanks for the sp correction Callistemon, it didn’t look correct and I should have checked

Callistemon21 Sat 04-Jun-22 20:20:46

Yes, that is probably right.

I have taken only a passing interest in this case, but the impression I have got is that it was a case of six of one to half a dozen of the other and they are both unpleasant people who probably deserved each other.

Folie a duex
Hope I spelled it correctly. It’s where two people could be ok with a different partner but together these two are lethal

I agree, M0nica

although JD said that his continual working away made it hard to conduct a relationship
Oh, for goodness' sake!

He's certainly been through a few women, hasn't he.
I wonder why no-one stays with him?

He has been the one to walk away from some of them. Why assume nobody would stay with him? The mother of his kids was with him for 14 years and there is speculation that Amber Heard may have been the reason although JD said that his continual working away made it hard to conduct a relationship. Vanessa has never given the reason but report are that it was and is amicable between them with their emphasis on the kids.

Being kind in some areas of his life doesn’t necessarily translate into general kindness. I acknowledge this was a toxic relationship but -

He doesn't appear to stay with them! He left Kate Moss for Vanessa Paradis then left her for Amber.

He's very kind actually. He regularly visits children's wards in hospital. As Jack Sparrow.

He donated 2 million dollars to Great Ormond Street after they treated his very ill daughter a few years ago.

Iam64 Sat 04-Jun-22 18:54:29

Because he’s a narcissistic, drug/alcohol addled, self indulgent ego trip?

JaneJudge Sat 04-Jun-22 16:41:14

because he is a bit weird and creepy and likes women to look pre pubescent?

JaneJudge Sat 04-Jun-22 15:17:13

Blimey Ali08, steady on! She's only a somewhat famous actress, not Meghan Markle.

If she wasn’t famous before, she certainly is now - but for all the wrong reasons.

Amber Heards problem is that she was very poor in the witness box and handled the cross examination very badly, that did not impress the jury who returned a unanimous verdict.

VioletSky, I agree.

Feminism is about equality... So i am tryimg to see the positives

My hope now is that as we go forward from this we will accept that women can be and are abusive and men can suffer from domestic violence too.

What we need is more education on red flags in relationships that should never be ignored.

We need better support.

We need to show perpetrators that they wont get away with it, ever.

People like my mother exist who abused me way into my adult life and still people tell me that it cant have been that bad and I should forgive her because she is my mother and loves me....

My stepfather still supports her despite all the times she has treated him awfully amd all his relationships with his family and friends she destroyed...

When need children raised safely by non abusive parents because some children do not come away from those situations as good people themselves

I wonder who is best in her line of targets?
She seemed very manipulative to me, during the trial. Some of her friends have dropped her because of her lying!
She kept lying to her lawyers, seemingly.
Actually, I didn't even know who she was before this trial started but now I know her to be a gold digger who'd lie to get her way!
Men who abuse women can be very manipulative, seemingly angels to those not privvy to what goes on behind closed doors, but so can women who abuse men!!!

I'm confused as to why Kate Moss was trollied out but not one of his former wives! I think it is quite easy to manipulate your audience if you pick the right people to give you a character reference too <shrugs>

The mother of his kids was prepared to testify in the London Case and somewhere I read that JD had not called upon his children or his ex as he felt they'd been through enough. Winona Rider has also said that he was a very caring person and she was devastated when the relationship broke up. I should have thought that it was the opportune moment for ex girlfriends to have stepped forward to back AH which has been prevalent in the METOO movement.

Once again women get shafted. I guess we shouldn’t have expected anything better but it is disappointing nonetheless.
