Things you think can make you look older than your years!

It seems to be very fashionable to turn up the bottoms of jeans and trousers.

As for too short trousers, Callie, I was referring not to tailored angle grazers, but baggy, unstructured ones, flapping above the ankles!
Now I am being judgemental.

Actually I have a couple of linen pairs which were meant to be full-length but aren't any more so I turn up the bottoms.
Is that acceptable, does anyone know?

I have finally accepted that I can no longer walk comfortably in ballet flats (arthritic knees). I have lots in different colours but I need something with some support and just a little bit of a heel. So I will be searching for something comfortable and supportive but not old lady-ish. I don’t think it will be easy. But I can’t wear my incredibly comfy ankle boots all summer!

I had a colleague who could only wear sandals, due to chronic RA. She was in unbearable pain and couldn't get a pair of shoes on her badly deformed feet. Perhaps she should have walked around the school barefoot, in case she offended someone!

I wear elasticated waist trousers as I have a condition called lipodoema, which means my bottom and legs are much bigger than my waist and top half. I try to suit my shape and colouring and am aware that my choice of clothes Seasalt, Joe Browns and M and S are not the choice of brands my daughter, who is in her twenties, would wear. I also wear Hotter, Clarks or Red and Dead shoes, in modern styles (l hope). I love colour, particularly red, and like to think my style is slightly Bohemian. In reality, I look very much like the older or retired music or art teacher that I am (music of course). There is nothing wrong with looking one’s age but equally there is nothing wrong with trying to preserve what we have. We were asked what we thought looked ageing and my earlier post was exactly that - my personal observations. I think we are all “guilty” of several no-nos on other people’s lists and all have our own ideas. When my hearing aid whistles loudly, it is very ageing. Kate1949, you mentioned wearing dentures. I am sure nobody could tell and well-made dentures these days look very natural and far less ageing than the missing teeth l mentioned. I have a friend who has lost almost all her upper teeth because of diabetes and never replaced them. Fine if you don’t worry about it but I think false teeth would look so much better and take years off her.

Au naturale is good, so don't spoil the illusion please.

Oh how kind of you!!! That’s made my day!!! You should see me when I get up and when I’m wearing my gardening gear though with hair falling out of its clip. Not good!

Oh No Fanny!

I had my weekly Tesco delivery today and I’m wearing nail varnish - clear on fingernails, pink on toes. My socks are black and my shirt has a collar. And I quite like Michael Portillo. Am I a lost cause??

Less is usually enough. Don’t go out without make up but no foundation. Think the very short short back and short helmet hairstyle very ageing as is dark dyed hair in fact any style with roots showing, better grey than that. Do think a sunny disposition and an interest in others more important than how you look.

I aim at tidy, clean and smart. What is wrong with looking the age you are? The best bit about being in my seventies is not caring about fashion although I still try to look like I've made an effort.
