Enough with the jubilee already.

The celebrations haven’t started yet and I’m already fed up with them.
I bought a loaf of bread yesterday and it had a silver crown on it and a jubilee message. When I think of the cost of redesign and printing a new message, it must impact on the price I’m paying.
Then I’ve just seen the itinerary for next week and I’m bemused by the timetable.
There’s a glorious fly past again with 40 planes and helicopters etc. I always remember my husband laughing at previous fly pasts as the UK has such a paucity of planes to do it that some of them were training planes and clapped out aircraft to bulk up the numbers.
I also didn’t realise the bank holidays were Thursday and Friday.
Oh well soon be over and we can have an in depth examination of Meghan and Harry and what they did/didn’t do, who wore what and how much did it cost etc. Ammunition for news articles for months and posts on gransnet.
Bring it on.

I'm going to my usual Wednesday meeting where we're staying on for a celebratory lunch and having some light entertainment, then on Sunday our church is having a jubilee tea. I haven't volunteered to help - makes a change - as I'm busy waiting hand and foot on my daughter who has a broken ankle which was operated on a week ago. Being retired I don't benefit from the extra bank holidays and as I do casual work in a school also don't gain as it is half term! It has been carefully timed so no school workers get extra time off! I'm happy to join in low key stuff - Her Majesty has achieved something amazing and it is right to mark it but if it becomes an excuse for excessive spending and partying I won't be joining in. I feel sorry for those struggling with the cost of living crisis who have no choice!

What a shame all you miseries can't get together have your own "Grumblee day" !!

How many times ? Or do you not bother reading the thread ?
WE ARE NOT MISERIES!

Not being “into” the RF or the Jubilee does not make us grumpy or miserable and it certainly does not make anyone unpatriotic .

Iwtwab12bow Mon 30-May-22 12:34:01

Oh how miserable. I was really looking forward to it. Our queen has served us well over 70 years. A unique opportunity to thank her for all her hard work and enjoy ourselves and get to know our friends and neighbours. I will miss the whole thing as I am in hospital. No more whingeing, please. This won't happen again in our lifetime.

Well, aren't you a miserable bunch. At least have respect for those who want to take part, who want to enjoy the celebrations.
I'm surprised that there's so much negativity from the older section of the population. Had I given it any thought, I would have expected this from younger people. Just shows how wrong I can be.

Honestly, what is the matter with you lot?

Are you queuing up out there?

volver Mon 30-May-22 12:35:14

No more whingeing, please.

You call it whingeing, the rest of us call it sharing our opinion. How rude.

Lucca Mon 30-May-22 12:36:08

They are but they aren’t reading or understanding any point of view bar their own That kind of makes me miserable!!!

montymops Mon 30-May-22 12:36:48

Having a royal family does deny the power to anyone else. You may consider, nanna8 , that it is perpetuating the class system but people will rise to the top whatever! If we didn’t have them we may have President Johnson, Starmer, Corbyn, et cetera- or even Putin - he’s milked the Russian economy for his own riches - massive yachts, massive palaces and houses by the sea, houses abroad - how about having him?

Annaram1 Mon 30-May-22 12:37:16

My street is having a Jubilee party and I am looking forward to it. There will never be another opportunity to celebrate a monarch's 70 years on the throne. Remember that, all you nay sayers. Go on, enjoy yourselves!!!

volver Mon 30-May-22 12:38:20

Lucca I'm thinking of talking about how people are easily led and distracted from the real problems in this country by a cupcake and a £5 bottle of Prosecco to celebrate a woman with a jewelled hat, but I'm not that rude.

Our Parish Clerk is wonderful. She has things organized over the whole four days for every age group finishing with a lovely lunch Party in the Park on Sunday. It starts with a lunch party on Thursday for the Friendship Group which was started after the Covid lock down to eliminate isolation and loneliness in the village. This is a great village to live in and the kindness stretches across all generations. I am really looking forward to it.

One of the good things about living in a so called democracy is that you are allowed to have an alternate opinion. In todays WOKE/PC society it is becoming increasingly difficult to express an opinion without being labelled something sinister.

Glorianny Mon 30-May-22 12:39:32

I've been told there is a street party at the other end of my street and asked if I was going. I sort of mumbled a "not sure" reply. I'm not miserable I just don't want to celebrate what for me is a complete irrelevancy.

jane1956 Mon 30-May-22 12:39:36

some BAH HUMBUGS on here arn't there? The Queen is lovely has worked tirelessly for 70 that's SEVENTY yrs lets celebrate as there has been little to get excited about lately

Hubby & I are escaping to an Airbnb overlooking Cardigan Bay...Am pleased she has reached her Platinum anniversary but do we all have to join in?

No, lots of people who can afford it are making the most of the long weekend provided by the platinum anniversary celebrations and going away.
No one has to join in the celebrations, the parties, the cheerful comments or the grumbling, but it passes the time.

Missingmoominmama Mon 30-May-22 12:42:34

I’ve been excited by lots of things lately!

Happy to report my home city has decided NOT to organise jubilee celebrations. There are far more deserving causes for the cash to be spent on

Where do you live? I need to move there.

Aepgirl Mon 30-May-22 12:47:31

Well, what a grumpy lot you are., but thankfully you are in the minority. I’m going to enjoy every minute of it. Street parties, red, white and blue everywhere, and plenty of jubilee programmes.

volver Mon 30-May-22 12:50:40

but thankfully you are in the minority.

Are we?

Some of the Royalists don't like actual numbers and proof, but seeing as you brought it up...

grannyrebel7 Mon 30-May-22 12:52:17

Oooh bah humbug Honeysuckleberries

Oldwoman70 Mon 30-May-22 12:52:44

I have recently moved and asked my neighbours if anything was planned - nothing at all, not even the local community centre has anything planned!

Saggi Mon 30-May-22 12:53:52

Ignore it all…. I am! No week for a republican like me.

Glasgo Mon 30-May-22 12:54:06

Love it. God Save the Queen!

Happypie Mon 30-May-22 12:55:19

These are not clapped out aeroplanes taking part in the fly past. There will be 70 aircraft representing the queen’s reign and these are flown with the utmost precision and skill by our armed forces the Royal Air Force, the Army and the Royal Navy. Some of the old aircraft represent the Battle of Britain and have seen active service in the Second World War. Other aircraft are state of the art fighters and helicopters and the world famed Red Arrows whose pilots are the cream of the crop. They are all practicing over RAF College Cranwell to ensure the British public have a spectacular display to watch.

I for one am so proud of our country’s heritage, traditions and of those who serve our country, and especially to have such a monarch as Queen Elizabeth II whose long reign will probably never be matched again. I’m pleased to say, that where I live there is a lot of bunting and flags flying.

KG1241 Mon 30-May-22 12:56:24

My bunting is up on the front of the house and back. I love a celebration and a chance to get together with my neighbours and friends. My local pub has organised lots of events, looking forward to all of it. Much better than looking on with a grumpy attitude.
