Thanks, OakDryad. That's interesting and worrying! But helpful too. smile

Like most others I always sign out of banking, also GP patient access, but stay logged in for everything else.

A bit morbid I know, but if you died and were not signed out of everywhere would it bother you that others could see every post that you have made.

I don't log out of any social media, but I always log out of online banking. However, my laptop has an access code on it that only I know. My phone also. And if I think someone has guessed them (anyone at all), I change them.

A word of warning not to log out of GN. Everytime I tried to log back in, it took me back to my original name and wouldn't let me post. I had to do a different spelling of this name to re enter.

Don’t log out of GN, but always from online banking and any other personal site I am able to log out of, i.e. my utility accounts.

It really depends how much you trust a site's own servers. Poor security at the server end could leave you exposed. Who knows how safe GN servers are? Free email accounts: Gmail, Hotmail etc have security issues at their end. Your ISP is easy to read - how else does all that spam get through? Banks tend to time you out of a session but it could still be long enough for keyloggers to steal ids and passwords. All you can do is keep you user-end security up to date to detect malware.

Wouldn't know how to log out nor do I feel any need to.

OakDryad Mon 30-May-22 15:24:06

You can be hacked either way. If you log in each time you could still be hacked by keyloggers getting hold of your log in data. These are not stopped by HTTPS encryption because that only protects data in transit between computers.

That's what I'm wondering, BlueBelle. If you don't sign out of email is it easier for Them to hack you, or doesn't it make any difference?

Wheniwasyourage Mon 30-May-22 15:20:29

Yes, you do need your password if you log out of GN, Charleygirl (assuming you want to get back in grin) but I think there's one of the usual links for if you've forgotten it. Can't check, because I am now signed in... confused

AGAA4 Mon 30-May-22 15:15:23

I always log out of anywhere where my money is involved but never out of GN.
Always log out of my email account too.

Charleygirl5 Mon 30-May-22 15:12:39

I always log out of online banking but never GN for the simple reason I have forgotten my password and I think that is required to sign in again but I could be wrong.

Smileless2012 Mon 30-May-22 15:09:02

Don't do online banking just email and GN so never sign out.

Wheniwasyourage Mon 30-May-22 15:06:30

Just wondering if people sign out of GN, email, Duolingo or anything else you have to sign in to. I almost always do at the end of the day, and always when I've finished with internet banking. Does anyone know if there are any implications for being hacked (particularly email) if you don't?
