A ‘happy to be celebrating the jubilee’ thread.

I shan't be going to our village street party because I'm not keen on that sort of thing, although I might call in at it to take photos for posterity.

I'm going to a church thing next Sunday evening - service and "party" in another parish and we had a special service at our parish church on Sunday as well as setting up a Jubilee Garden in a dingy bit of the churchyard. The bunting is up, too. I'm looking forward to the various events that will be televised.

I remember the Silver Jubilee celebrations - I was teaching and the staff put on a panto and concert for the children. It seemed to be a much better supported occasion. The Golden Jubilee seemed less well supported and this one less well again. I think that's a shame.

I’d have thought this jubilee would be even more supported due to the queens age & the fact that she won’t be with us for very much longer.

I won’t be going to any events as none planned and in any case not my cup of tea. Not begrudging the celebrations, as it is quite an achievement, but I feel the era of the street party is over.

The bunting is up, the union flags are flying, the Champagne is in the fridge and i can't wait

No street parties here , but I shall celebrate the Queen's long reign in my own quiet way. I'll watch bits on television, have a go at making the platinum pud, and be thankful for a steadfast head of state all these years.

Putting our bunting up tomorrow, and celebrating with family get-togethers over the weekend. Two street parties near us, but impossible on our road without cutting off vehicular access to the police station and causing chaos at the traffic lights.

Well, if the era of street parties is over, an awful lot of people, nearly 10 million have not been told. As I posted on another thread, my village are having a village green party and we have every intention to be there.

Many older people do see a lapse in energy and interest in the events of life as they grow older.

I am getting my bunting out and enjoying a lovely village event. i am not really that bothered by the reason for all the celebrations, i am just going to enjoy the vibe.

Been here for over twenty years people don't even come out for New Year's!
I watched the programme about the Queen's reign and enjoyed it. I thought the fact that she narrated was a bit special.

I think it’s wonderful, we have our bunting out.
I’m a bit surprised at the other thread, because I don’t know anyone who doesn’t respect and admire the Queen.
I remember the Silver Jubilee being massive, we had a party at the local school, the whole street was there, my oldest was two, and was dressed up in red white and blue crepe paper, and my mother in law designed her whole garden around that colour scheme.

New Year’s what? I don’t understand.

We’re going to a community afternoon tea on Sunday. It’s free (no idea who’s paying for it!). Mainly, for us, it’ll be a chance to say goodbye to lots of our neighbours as we leave our village after many years. It’ll be a bittersweet occasion for us. It’s time to move on but we still look back on good memories.

It was a sight to behold, we teased her a bit, it took her absolutely ages, I think she got a garden plan out of one of her magazines and followed it religiously.

I am unable to attend street parties I have been invited to because too difficult in my wheelchair. I have enjoyed looking
on a local site to see the shop windows and I did pick the winner. A friend is taking photographs of the streets for me to
see. I shall watch the celebrations on tv,

Yes, going to two!
One is not exactly a street party, it's a garden party, a gathering for the neighbours, some of whom are Republicans but enjoy a get-together.

I shall be watching the ‘Jubilee Special’ steam trains and hopefully getting some decent photos. There’s a good weather forecast for this area for the weekend. This isn’t somewhere you could hold a street party.

Not a royalist, and will not be celebrating.

But, this is an event in our history and I will watch some of the TV coverage out of interest from that perspective. We are seeing the slow end of an era and I believe the monarchy will eventually become redundant. But personally, I'd like to see it happen 'organically', naturally, as times change and we progress. I'm not one of the "off with their heads" bunch. Better to have a peaceful 'revolution' when the majority of people agree upon a principle.

I don't begrudge the street parties - for some, it will be an opportunity for a get-together after a couple of horrible years.
