Just to balance things out grin

Seems to be a lot of people on here really not interested in the jubilee celebrations, so I thought it would be nice to have a thread for those of us who are happy about it & think 70 years as our queen is a fantastic achievement.

Are you going to any events or parties?

Purplepixie Wed 01-Jun-22 13:54:37

No street party here as half of the street do not speak to the other half. Our immediate next door neighbours are horrible and I just wished we could go away but DH isnt well. It could be a long weekend of gardening and doing crafts for me. I do like the Queen but it is all the others that go with the royals that I just cannot stand. Happy weekend to you all as I raise my cuppa! cafe

One thing really annoyed me was in Green park they were charging £3 an hour to sit in a deckchair ?

V3ra Wed 01-Jun-22 14:57:33

Our bags are packed and we will be on the train to London this evening. Our daughter and her family are travelling down tomorrow.
We're looking forward to enjoying the festive atmosphere and celebrating with family ?

tanith Wed 01-Jun-22 15:16:55

V3ra hope you enjoy your day have you planned on where you will watch everything? Have a plan as it’s going to be mega busy.

Jubilee celebrations are nothing new. This cartoon is from Queen Victoria's jubilee.

tanith Wed 01-Jun-22 15:55:42

Aveline that was Victorias Golden Jubilee 50yrs this is Platinum Jubilee 70yrs it’s never happened before.

I've been searching high and low for my Coronation table cloth, which I thought I could hang in a window, but cannot find it!

Whitewavemark2 Wed 01-Jun-22 16:18:16

Just watching the Coronation. I can’t think that this sort of pageant will ever be repeated.

MacCavity2 Wed 01-Jun-22 16:26:26

Our road will be closed for the day and lots of preparations in place for a wonderful day of eating, drinking and music.

People who have had the advantage of growing up in this country should be grateful. We have had free education, medical care and help when unemployed or sick.

Wonder why so many want to live here?

tanith we're staying at County Hall so in the centre and walking distance to everything.
Going to "see" what we can but we'll have a 5 and 1 year old with us so we might just be taking in the atmosphere rather than jostling for a view!
My daughter's planned it all: a picnic in Hyde Park and the Diana Memorial Fountain on Thursday afternoon, Science Museum on Friday and the Tower on Saturday.
They're going home after that and we're going on a Platinum Jubilee Champagne Gala Dinner Cruise on the Thames river boat on Saturday evening to celebrate my husband's 65th birthday.
We'll hopefully catch some of the Pageant on Sunday.
Then home to watch what we missed on television ?

NotSpaghetti Wed 01-Jun-22 16:42:49

We have had "free" at the point of need/use, MacCavity2 it's true. Not actually free but we are definitely fortunate.

Aveline Wed 01-Jun-22 16:47:50

*tanith"- I know!! It was just a jubilee cartoon.

On a caravan holiday with our grandchildren.
They are decorating the caravan and balcony tonight and are very excited.

Lots of other caravans have bunting and flags up already and have seen some cars with Union Jack flags.

I was a teenager for the Silver Jubilee .
Remember it as a fun time with huge street party and sports on the field.
Football match between our street and the next street .
Our next neighbour as carted off with broken leg ?.

Few years later we had another street party for Charles and Diana wedding.
It was also our wedding few weeks later .? ?

Isn't it all about memories and fun times

When do the republicans have their fun street parties ?

Mollygo Wed 01-Jun-22 17:48:28

No street party but a local school has lent their playground so we can meet. Already decorated with bunting thanks to the children who are all obviously welcome to come along, even though they celebrated befor half term.

Esmay Wed 01-Jun-22 19:29:26

I'm looking forward to the Jubilee celebrations .
I'm only sorry that our Queen no longer has Prince Philip to celebrate with her .
God Bless Her Majesty .

BlueSky Wed 01-Jun-22 19:35:32

Indeed MacCavity why so many want to live here?
Yes Esmay shame the Queen no longer has her husband to celebrate with.
??

I've been in the village hall this afternoon, helping to put up the bunting. We have something on there on each of the four days, ending with an indoor 'street party' on Sunday with games for the children. We start Sunday with a service in the church and a parade to the village hall. We have put a flag on the house and some bunting.

mokryna Wed 01-Jun-22 19:48:29

And in France

rockgran Wed 01-Jun-22 20:06:17

Our local library had their "street" party inside yesterday because of the rain but it was a great success and very well attended. Everyone brought a bit of food and leftover cakes were given to local shop workers and were very well received. It was a bit of fun in these dark times. cafe

vegansrock Wed 01-Jun-22 20:35:12

Republicans like bank holidays, eating and drinking as much as the next person. Our street party happens every year in July.

vegansrock Wed 01-Jun-22 20:38:44

“Why do so many want to live here?” Is a ridiculous question in this context and could just as easily be asked by the inhabitants of the USA , Canada, Sweden, France, Germany,Denmark and many other places where migrants aim for. If you really want a answer, it isn’t because of the royal family.

JaneJudge Wed 01-Jun-22 20:39:55

we went to the pub tonight as we knew it would be empty grin we were not disappointed

Or could it have been Victoria's Diamond Jubilee - 60 years?

Lots of decorations up everywhere we go. Tonight went to Slimming World and was invited to a Party on Saturday at the Parish Church (I am not part of their congregation but was still invited) and then to another on the Sunday at a neighbours. I am looking forward to watching Trooping the Colour tomorrow on TV and then later in the day going to a Military Camp for some celebrations and seeing a newly unveiled statue of The Queen riding side saddle. We have lots of food and champagne ready for every eventuality and primarily for our Family Party on Friday. Hope I can sleep tonight #jokingnotjoking
