A ‘happy to be celebrating the jubilee’ thread.

So lovely to have this thread. Like all of you I love the Queen and greatly admire her steadfastness throughout her long reign. I do not recall any entrance to St.Paul’s at street level or with a ramp either. But I am not really sure. Son and I were discussing how difficult it would be for the Queen. I think she just cannot climb steps without a railing nor walk along the nave. Do you all think that she could use a wheelchair without lessening her position? Watching the Service and thinking standing for hymns and being part of the process would be too much for the Queen. My heart goes out to her having lost Prince Philip after such a long marriage.

I have attached bunting outside in my front garden,only 3 houses have made the effort.I will sit outside a bit later with a glass of wine with hubby and daughter and we are all going to put teashirts on in red blue and white ? ?. No street party here.But I will enjoy doing this as like the Queen.

Eugenie's burnt orange outfit was nice too. I bet they're all freezing unless the TV lights are heating the place up.

The wee choir boys are so sweet. Singing their hearts out!

Zara Tindall looks very colourful though, but very nice.

Lucca lots of other ladies looking nice in pastel colours. She could have picked a colour that blended rather than stood out. M obviously worried she'd not be noticeable enough. I know. I'm a nasty piece of work but I'm much more impressed by the other Royal ladies and their tact and discretion.

I doubt if Catherine and Meghan had a discussion about their respective outfits Lucca.

They both look very stylish, although Catherine’s height gives her a head start,

I feel sorry for those people celebrating the event today in the town I live in. It's pouring down! Makes me almost glad to be working instead.

Am I right in remembering the Diamond Jubilee as a bit of a wash out, too?

Wasn’t Catherine in white yesterday ? Goodness me if M had been in blue shed gave have been copying the queen if in yellow copying Kate. Red ? Scarlet woman ? Green ? Jealous ?

This is a once in a lifetime event and worth celebrating whether you agree with royalty or not or I would guess that there would be some that wouldn't even think it's worth celebrating a Platinum Anniversary of close family members!
Bit of a shame that many villages have only organised events for yesterday instead of taking advantage of the extra 2 bank holidays and the long weekend !

@Anniebach as I said upthread, interpret “lack of mobility”, see it as Palace code for age-related frailty, quite possibly illness which we will not know of until afterwards, perhaps advanced osteoporosis or worse.
You must remember how frail and shrunken she has become, the contrasts with her “good days”, like the opening of the Elizabeth Line becoming all the more marked.

Seeing Harry and Meghan entering the Cathedral I felt so sad that they had “flounced” - how much nicer for all if they had been prepared to accept the status quo or compromise and be part of the 21st century House of Windsor instead of voting with their feet.
They could have worked to modernise the monarchy, been a bridge to the ethnic minorities, to the disabled, to the underprivileged and I think we would all have welcomed their contribution.

David Dimblebee’s commentary is awful. He barely knows who anyone is.

And maybe a corgi or two snuggled up beside her!

I don't think she should abdicate and this gradual handing over of duties to Prince Charles is a very good way of easing out.
Terrific thought of the Queen's PJ day. I bet she'll be watching on TV. I hope she's happy and comfortable surrounded by her dogs and enjoying a leisurely 'elevenses'! There must be some cake left over from yesterday.

I think you’re right Maw.

I, for one, do not think (or see why she should) abdicate, resign, retire, whatever you want to call it, but think that this increasing passing of duties to Charles, and William, is the way forward. When that sad day comes, this gradual changeover will have made it more acceptable.

I have wondered thoughts if this Jubilee doesn’t have a touch of saying Goodbye. A symbolic handing over to Prince Charles in everything but name hinted at in the Queen’s emphasis on the future- of the monarchy, of the House of Windsor, but I felt it was almost a farewell appearance on the balcony .
One thing is sure, “Mobility issues” looks more and more like Palace code for being 96 years old and increasingly frail, which she is reluctant to admit because our Queen is proud and does not think it seemly to show weakness.
So a joyful celebration but with an underlying sadness for the rest of us?
