Just to balance things out grin

Seems to be a lot of people on here really not interested in the jubilee celebrations, so I thought it would be nice to have a thread for those of us who are happy about it & think 70 years as our queen is a fantastic achievement.

Are you going to any events or parties?

Lovely to hear all this. Happy times.
Re Prince Andrew - damned if he doesn't appear and damned if he does.
I heard that the hour long drives to and from the Thanksgiving service from Windsor was important in the decision for the Queen not to attend. I wonder why she didn't just stay over at Buckingham Palace?

Here in East London we saw the planes fly over.
Then went to the Carvery for lunch.
Beautiful day.

And Prince Andrew has COVID and won’t be at St Paul’s either.
Am I being cynical to wonder if it is a “diplomatic” illness?

Must be a relief to be in the news for something positive.

Lovely photos Joseanne
have a great day celebrating!
I’m off to my daughters a bit later for afternoon jubilee tea. Then home to make cakes for our street party tomorrow.
This jubilee weekend has really lifted my spirits after the awful few years we’ve had what with coronavirus & everything.
I also really hope the Queen is feeling better today.

Have a lovely day everyone what ever you’re doing ?? ??

I'm not sure I have the Queen's stamina to keep up the constant bit!!

Off to a dog show now, and ferrets too (don't ask!) Then a barbecue.

Yesterday was a glorious day with memories to treasure. The maypole dancing and quiz went well here, ... "what year was annus horribilis?" etc. My friend got a surprise text later from her son to say he had led the fly past in a Hawk (top secret!). Shame I can't post you the amazing photo from the cockpit.

Here's a Devon field at 9.45 pm. The sun sets late in the west. And GD's sparkly headband!!

Onwards and upwards, day 2.

Prince Andrew could sit with the Archbishop of Canterbury, also stricken with covid, and who recently appealed for forgiveness for him.

Brilliant excerpt from Larkin's poem MawTheMerrier. So true.

Well, if it is a ‘diplomatic’ illness, he’ll be able to sit with the Queen and they can watch it on tv together, and comment on who’s wearing what, …..

My first day of Jubilee fun was all I wished for. The Trooping ceremony and fly past, watched on tv with a glass of prosecco and union jack hat on head, was so good, gave me goosebumps. Prince Louis showing that he may be royal but he is a little boy. Then went to watch some soldiers and officers marching then cheering for HRH. A walk through some beautiful gardens and finally saw the new statue of the Queen at RMAS, recently unveiled.

In 1977, when Philip Larkin was asked to produce a poem for the Silver Jubilee, he wrote, unimprovably:

In times when nothing stood

But worsened, or grew strange ,

There was one constant good

She did not change. .”

So true 45 years on ??

Yes Llfl, I thought it was unwarranted but to be expected, especially with the comment with the picture. But that’s the press for you.

Just a bit annoyed when the BBC said the Sussexes and Andrew were not on the balcony. Well, neither were Anne’s children and grandchildren, and neither were Beatrice and Eugenie and their families. Just saying.

Happy to see on the news that someone we know has received the BEM for her many years of charity work.

Maw
My immediate thought as well.
But who could blame them?

I love watching it, as I’ve just said in another thread, I worry about the grenadiers with those bear skin hats over their eyes. Just glad it’s not a heat wave as it must feel like being steamed in one, also the chin straps which don’t go under the chin just under the mouth.so glad the weathers dry. Love the drum horses, well all of them really.

Calendargirl Thu 02-Jun-22 20:39:37

Oh dear, just been announced that the Queen WON’T be attending the Service of Thanksgiving tomorrow. Obviously today has been a bit much.
Charles will represent her.

What a shame.

Me too.

I've just watched Trooping the Colour on catch-up and am so proud. Loved the 70 fly past.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 02-Jun-22 14:43:35

Superb speech directed to the Queen by Macron.

Dignified and tasteful.

Today was my own jubilee special as it was the day the man, who was to become my husband came into my life.
Sadly no longer with me.

Makes your heart swell with pride. The Queen was magnificent and what a wonderful display of appreciation and joy from so many loyal subjects.
