Just to balance things out grin

Seems to be a lot of people on here really not interested in the jubilee celebrations, so I thought it would be nice to have a thread for those of us who are happy about it & think 70 years as our queen is a fantastic achievement.

Are you going to any events or parties?

Aveline Thu 02-Jun-22 11:27:26

Aww. Wish I'd seen it now. I hope it was as sunny and warm down there as it is up here. Or maybe not. Those poor guardsmen in their uniforms must be boiling!

Calendargirl Thu 02-Jun-22 11:14:04

And yes Maw, he looks very like his Middleton grandfather.

Calendargirl Thu 02-Jun-22 11:13:11

Lovely to see the Cambridge children in the carriage with their mum and step gran.

Waving away!

OK count me in as sentimental! Comfortably planted on the sofa with a mug of coffee watching the Trooping.
I love the pomp and display - although it also recognises centuries of meticulous drill and training. I may have mixed feelings about seeing the farriers with their axes and the knowledge that men were drilled to march without question probably to their death in a pitched battle, but if you are going to do something, do,it well.
Anyway to be more cheerful.
Doesn’t little Louis look like Michael Middleton! Strong genes in that family I guess.

House decorated for party on Saturday ???? seeing all the flags flying makes me feel so happy. ??

eazybee Thu 02-Jun-22 09:11:07

I hung my flag out this morning and thought I was going to be the only one, but have just noticed that another union flag has appeared and some bunting farther down the road.

the crowds outside Buckingham palace being interviewed on Bbc1 this morning show that people far and wide have come here for this occasion.... very many from America! some from Spain, France aswell as all over UK.....wish I'd gone now!
went to the Silver Jubilee which was of course 25yrs...

BlueSky Thu 02-Jun-22 08:15:07

Vegansrock no I don’t think for that foreigners want to live in the UK because of our wonderful royal family! Obviously there are many reasons why they like this country and prefer it to others.

Grandmajb Thu 02-Jun-22 07:14:12

Strange that some of you think it is not well supported. There have been more requests for road closures for street parties than there were for the last Jubilee. 16,000 so far and they are the official ones. I know of many more where people are are partying in their front gardens because they are not allowed to close their streets. We are having a street party and all the bunting is going up. Can’t wait. It will be a great opportunity to get together and meet the neighbours. I fear the weather may let us down though.

Dignified, astute, devoted, extraordinary and Our Queen… how fortunate this nation is ????

Joseanne Thu 02-Jun-22 07:03:51

Enjoy a great day those who are partying!.
The sun is shining brightly here in Devon already.
I'm eating a fortifying breakfast, having already done the dog walk. Then DGDs maypole dancing this morning in the village, street party this afternoon in a street just off the sea front, family quiz night back in the village and beacon lighting.

In a personal message released tonight, HM the Queen said:

“Thank you to everyone who has been involved in convening communities, families, neighbours and friends to mark my Platinum Jubilee, in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth.

“I know that many happy memories will be created at these festive occasions.

“I continue to be inspired by the goodwill shown to me, and hope that the coming days will provide an opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved during the last 70 years, as we look to the future with confidence and enthusiasm.”

Bless you ma’am. ??

We have our street party tomorrow afternoon - bunting's up and we are looking forward to it. It'll just be a couple of hours of sharing food and chat.

So sorry the weather is going to change for Sunday here - DS and DiL have their street party planned for the 'proper' day = just hope the forecast is mistaken!

Anyone going to be singing 'Sweet Caroline'? And can anyone explain why that song was chosen?

Lots of decorations up everywhere we go. Tonight went to Slimming World and was invited to a Party on Saturday at the Parish Church (I am not part of their congregation but was still invited) and then to another on the Sunday at a neighbours. I am looking forward to watching Trooping the Colour tomorrow on TV and then later in the day going to a Military Camp for some celebrations and seeing a newly unveiled statue of The Queen riding side saddle. We have lots of food and champagne ready for every eventuality and primarily for our Family Party on Friday. Hope I can sleep tonight #jokingnotjoking
