A ‘happy to be celebrating the jubilee’ thread.

“Why do so many want to live here?” Is a ridiculous question in this context and could just as easily be asked by the inhabitants of the USA , Canada, Sweden, France, Germany,Denmark and many other places where migrants aim for. If you really want a answer, it isn’t because of the royal family.

Republicans like bank holidays, eating and drinking as much as the next person. Our street party happens every year in July.

Our local library had their "street" party inside yesterday because of the rain but it was a great success and very well attended. Everyone brought a bit of food and leftover cakes were given to local shop workers and were very well received. It was a bit of fun in these dark times.

And in France

I've been in the village hall this afternoon, helping to put up the bunting. We have something on there on each of the four days, ending with an indoor 'street party' on Sunday with games for the children. We start Sunday with a service in the church and a parade to the village hall. We have put a flag on the house and some bunting.

No street party but a local school has lent their playground so we can meet. Already decorated with bunting thanks to the children who are all obviously welcome to come along, even though they celebrated befor half term.

On a caravan holiday with our grandchildren.
They are decorating the caravan and balcony tonight and are very excited.

Lots of other caravans have bunting and flags up already and have seen some cars with Union Jack flags.

I was a teenager for the Silver Jubilee .
Remember it as a fun time with huge street party and sports on the field.
Football match between our street and the next street .
Our next neighbour as carted off with broken leg ?.

Few years later we had another street party for Charles and Diana wedding.
It was also our wedding few weeks later .? ?

We have had "free" at the point of need/use, MacCavity2 it's true. Not actually free but we are definitely fortunate.

tanith we're staying at County Hall so in the centre and walking distance to everything.
Going to "see" what we can but we'll have a 5 and 1 year old with us so we might just be taking in the atmosphere rather than jostling for a view!
My daughter's planned it all: a picnic in Hyde Park and the Diana Memorial Fountain on Thursday afternoon, Science Museum on Friday and the Tower on Saturday.
They're going home after that and we're going on a Platinum Jubilee Champagne Gala Dinner Cruise on the Thames river boat on Saturday evening to celebrate my husband's 65th birthday.
We'll hopefully catch some of the Pageant on Sunday.
Then home to watch what we missed on television ?

Our road will be closed for the day and lots of preparations in place for a wonderful day of eating, drinking and music.

People who have had the advantage of growing up in this country should be grateful. We have had free education, medical care and help when unemployed or sick.

Just watching the Coronation. I can’t think that this sort of pageant will ever be repeated.

I've been searching high and low for my Coronation table cloth, which I thought I could hang in a window, but cannot find it!

Our bags are packed and we will be on the train to London this evening. Our daughter and her family are travelling down tomorrow.

One thing really annoyed me was in Green park they were charging £3 an hour to sit in a deckchair ?

No street party here as half of the street do not speak to the other half. Our immediate next door neighbours are horrible and I just wished we could go away but DH isnt well. It could be a long weekend of gardening and doing crafts for me. I do like the Queen but it is all the others that go with the royals that I just cannot stand. Happy weekend to you all as I raise my cuppa!

My daughter and I took the tube into town this morning just out of curiosity must say London looks well 'dressed' for the occasion, we walked up the Mall from the palace to Whitehall and down to Westminster and the Embankment lots of happy folks just enjoying the atmosphere. I took a few pics.

I do love to see the bunting about as well as Union Jack flags displayed on the front of some houses.

I have been very pleased that, so far, I haven’t noticed any hung upside down!
