Probably will get blasted but was sad that Prince Harry and Meghan were not seated together...this was a Service for all family/faiths and religions and Harry and Meghan were not together.

Probably for the best all round

The world has gone to hell when ordinary folk think its OK to spend this amount on "celebrations" for an old woman who has lived the life of Riley while kids in the same city go hungry.

I suspect that the old woman would rather sit back in a chair and relax, paddyann54. The celebrations are not for her at all, they are for the people of the land, the tourists and PR for the future of Royalty. For the people, there has been a lot of community spirit coming together for street parties and celebrations.

Maybe being a Royalist is like being a tory ...that makes you a better class...
I am ambivalent nowadays about having a Royal Head of State or a Presidential figurehead but I do think that if it were the latter, it would probably be a rich person who has the funds or donors to campaign for the position. I doubt most "Royalists" feel they are a better class of person, many of whom will be worried about money but enjoying the celebrations.
Who knew that people discussed royals with their "circle"
The recent news that Camilla would be the Queen Consort has triggered discussion which we wouldn't normally have on a daily basis with the people we communicate with. I don't think that is terribly surprising.

RichmondPark Sat 04-Jun-22 11:31:55

The royals are in the news almost daily so it seem unsurprising to me that people discuss them with their family and friends.

I'm no royalist but I do see the impact this Jubilee has had on my community. Our town has been full of fun, parties, an event in the park for all and has been a very positive and inclusive especially for those who are old and lonely. It's been good to see one recently bereaved neighbour out in the street enjoying the company of others and having something to smile about.

Kate1949 Sat 04-Jun-22 11:55:12

I don't discuss them in my 'circle'. I couldn't care less about them. However, you can't really avoid them in the news, in magazines, papers etc. Anyone who has been in the vicinity when they are on/in anything give their views obviously.

Kate1949 Sat 04-Jun-22 11:56:27

Also, I do enjoy celebrations, for whatever reason and I enjoyed my day at a Buckingham Palace garden party.

'Most people'? I think not! I still can't get over the sheer disrespect and all round brass neck/ignorance of calling their daughter Lilibet.

Me neither.
I was so shocked when I read it on here. I actually thought that it was a joke.

It wasn't meant to be unpleasant BlueBelle. It's just as I see it. I have never come across anyone who likes Camilla, although none of us know her obviously.

I really like her. She seems like a good egg.

Me too, FannyCornforth.

They were seated together, with Harry’s cousins, and even were allowed special transport, and a ‘performance’ promenade down the aisle. They are NOT working Royals, NOT popular at all with any of the family, and it was NOT their day. As it is HM the Queen offered an amazingly generous olive branch to them - given all they have done - by inviting them at all. HM the Queen may want to let bygones be bygones but the rest of the family clearly don’t and rightly so IMHO, after the numerous examples of how they have disrespected the Royals….Harry’s closest relatives.

I know someone who has met Camilla a few times through charity work and apparently she is very kind with a great sense of humour.

Yes, kind enough to cheat on her husband, assist in the breakup of another person's marriage and put 2 lots of kids in an embarrassing position as they are growing up. What a role model as a Queen Consort.

This seems somewhat appropriate for this thread in lots of ways. Film of the late D of Windsor when he was still the heir. And a great song. "I've danced with a man. who danced with a girl, who danced with the Prince of Wales" www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXndvWwZuaA

icanhandthemback you are so wrong, Camilla loved her husband, he was renown for being a womaniser. Such lies about her marrying Parker Bowles because Charles had gone into the navy.

Yes Annie, and Jilly Cooper famously based her fictional womaniser and heart throb Rupert Campbell Black on A P-B.

I must admit to having a rather large literary crush on Rupert Campbell-Black ?

I agree with this.
I think Harry and Meghan were seated appropriately, alongside the none working royals.
I like Camilla. She’s good for Charles.

Nope, he might have been a womaniser but she was also seeing Charles whilst she was married to him. Two wrongs don't make a right. You could argue that the Parker Bowles' children had 2 adulterous parents but he's not about to become Queen Consort. The same with Diana. I am not arguing she was an angel but she isn't going to be a role model for the nation either.
Neither Charles nor Camilla are what I would term as "decent" role models.

That rules out .Anne divorced. Edward lived in sin with Sophie.

Off with their heads

They are entirely different cases. No flaunting of their relationships before they separated so they were putting their children through it too. I have no problem with living in sin (if that's what you want to call it) nor people being divorced. I do have a problem with the way they treat their children which is totally different. However, I believe we've had this conversation before and we won't ever agree. Having been in the situation that Harry, William and The Parker Bowles' children were in and knowing the damage it did me, there's no way I am ever, ever going to change my mind about Camilla and Charles.

So that excuses Camilla encouraging her former lover to propose to a besotted teenager and then help to wreck the marriage?

A good egg?

I don't think so.

Anniebach Sun 05-Jun-22 21:15:08

Some believe everything in the media , besotted teenager who
was called Dutch by her sisters because she wanted Andrew
- Dutch - Duchess - Duchess of York but said in her book he was always playing computer games ‘I knew he wasn’t for me’

FannyCornforth Mon 06-Jun-22 06:33:56

Annie I have explained before that Diana was nicknamed Dutch by her sisters after a Dutch Doll.
They called her that because she was so quiet and shy, and hardly ever spoke. It started when she was around six.
Nothing at all to do with ‘wanting Andrew’ for heavens sake!
But I must say that it’s a new one!
