Just watching the concert at Buckingham Palace and who should pop up but Her Majesty doing a beautiful clip with Paddington Bear. Even better than her appearance with James Bond

Diversity were stunningly good, as was the Lloyd Webber medley (although no glasses on meant that for one disturbing minute I thought that Tony Blair was wearing the technicolor dreamcoat, not Jason Donovan shock)

Yes, Diversity were brilliant!

And I asked DH who was singing Technicolor Dreamcoat as Jason looked different. But very good.
Tony Blair ?

Adam Lambert has been performing with Queen for over 8 years now Deedaa. he's excellent. Came to fame on American Idol if I remember correctly.

Fabulous to see the Queen on the balcony. Very moving indeed.

DH and I and our younger son and his wife have been fans of Adam Lambert since we first saw him on American Idol. He got down to the final two and lost to a young man who was far less talented but he performed with Brian May and Roger Taylor in the finale and they were so impressed with him they offered him the job of lead singer with Queen. I have seen people say he is no Freddie Mercury but right from the start he said he wouldn’t and couldn’t try to emulate Freddie but would give his own interpretation of the songs in his performance.

Adam Lambert was great. I have read he is also a philanthropist and supports many charities. What’s not to like ?

Bocelli struggling and Nessun Dorma yet again….?

Not sure I saw any signs of struggle. Also why not Nessun Dorma?

Brownowl564 Mon 06-Jun-22 11:51:13

The expression on Her great grandchildren’s faces was priceless

Nannan2 Mon 06-Jun-22 11:52:51

Yes CrazyH- and so does Princes William and George, judging by the way they both perked up and had big smiles on their faces! Me too?

bevisp1 Mon 06-Jun-22 11:56:13

It was so cute and I thought the queen did very well. Apparently none of the royal family knew it was going to take place so to see the faces of Charlotte and George when they saw it, was wonderful

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 06-Jun-22 11:56:37

I didn’t see Bocelli struggling. And Nessun Dorma is very popular.

Nannan2 Mon 06-Jun-22 12:00:12

I thought- when everyone sings the National Anthem, is the Queen ever tempted to join in?- also, when the kiddies sing it do they end it with "God save our Gran" i wonder???

Lol just what i thought smile

Ed Sheering? grin

I was commenting on/critiquing the production on here purely because I had a former West End theatre lighting director explaining how it all worked. I remember some posters were particularly interested in this aspect on the Strictly thread too.
It's good to share knowledge.

Was Ed Sheering in charge of the buses?

SuzyG Mon 06-Jun-22 12:03:42

I don't know anyone else who has worked so hard until they were 96 but I'm sure there are some others. I wonder if the job were advertised, how many takers there would be?

I've enjoyed all of the effort and all the events (on TV) but I felt terribly sad and slightly uncomfortable watching the Paddington sketch.

The Paddington Bear sketch was wonderful - full marks to whoever thought it up. What a star our amazing Queen is, and she absolutely nails it sometimes..............bet she enjoyed herself performing with Paddington!!

I love this

Just to say the message by Geri Horner (Spice Girl) was cringe making and overdone in the extreme. I felt quite sick.

As my late mother would have said, She'd turn up for the opening of an envelope.

I loved the Paddington Bear scene with the Queen. At first I thought it was one of these "look a like" actresses and then realised it really was her . . . It was the highlight of the evening for me!

Nannan2 Mon 06-Jun-22 12:10:20

I think maybe someone wrote Charles' speech for him- but felt that William did his own.I may be wrong. But Williams just seemed more natural, like he was speaking from the Heart.

Have I missed something? Why did Rod sing ‘Sweet Caroline’?

Surely ‘Maggie May’ would have been better?

Not Maggie, we all know what that’s about. I thought Firever Young would have been a better choice.

Grantanow Mon 06-Jun-22 12:11:15

You've just got to laugh!

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 06-Jun-22 12:12:15

Apparently Sweet Caroline was chosen as the song of the Jubilee.

Thanks Sparklefizz.

I knew it was a football song, didn’t know it was Jubilee song.

Yes, Rod was struggling voice wise, and starting to look a bit ‘mutton dressed as…..’

Must be hard acknowledging your voice is not what it used to be.

I agree. Ditto Paul McCartney and Elton John. All sound like they’re being strangled when trying for the high notes. Just accept you’re past it chaps.
Mick Jagger on the other hand still has what it takes.

Loved the Queen and Paddington and the drones at the end above the Palace. Certainly some of the younger acts were much better than the older generation, so sad to see Diana Ross wheeled out, poor woman didn't look well or know where she was.

Nannan2 Mon 06-Jun-22 12:16:34

I cant see Prince Charles actually wanting to 'takeover' from Her Majesty- she is a hard act to follow!-I am seeing him handing it straight over to Prince William- as he is more in touch with the younger members of the public and the way the whole environmental vibe is heading for the future.More in touch with the modern world as a younger monarch.?
