Just watching the concert at Buckingham Palace and who should pop up but Her Majesty doing a beautiful clip with Paddington Bear. Even better than her appearance with James Bond

Loved it all especially the Paddington sketch. Such a feel good atmosphere to the whole evening. And all those people packing the Mall, just amazing! I just wanted to be there. Prince William and Prince Charles both spoke so well too, especially Charles speaking about his "dear Papa". His whole speech was quite moving. And people say the monarchy is finished - I don't think so. Congratulations ma'am on 70 wonderful years!

I have just realised what i can have for breakfast: marmalade sandwiches!

Hadn't intended to watch it at all but OH had it 'on as background' and we ended up glued to it after the first few minutes - splendid evening, and a terrific effort from all the performers.
Thought the audience did a great job of joining in as well!

Calendargirl

Who is Guy Garvey?

Apart from being Rachael Stirling’s husband, I assume?

Guy Garvey's the lead singer of Elbow.

And Paddington is a refugee who arrived here without any papers. smile

Well played ma'am.

^Queen okay, but Adam Lambert will never be anywhere near as good as Freddie.^

I agree Kandinsky. Freddie is an impossible act to follow and I was thinking last night how much F would have loved such an OTT evening. ..... he would have been "the belle of the ball". smile

I saw Adam Lambert a few years ago and thought he was very good and a worthy replacement for Freddie (though no-one can ever be the same). Since then he seems to have gained some weight and lost some of his spark. I also think he was nervous. So the Queen performance was not their best.

henetha Sun 05-Jun-22 10:27:12

As a huge Queen fan, no one can ever replace dear Freddie.
But I do think Adam's voice mostly does justice to the brilliant songs. Yet he did seem nervous yesterday and not at his best unfortunately. But I still love Queen, whatever.

Too many ( pretty bad ) virtual unknowns and not enough great, well known, British artists - How many people in the crowd & watching at home know Jax jones, Ella Eyre,
Sigala, Celeste & Mimi Webb?
Where were Blur? The Spice girls? all the brilliant Britpop bands?
& Madness should have ended the show!

Totally agree… best part for me was the marmalade sketch with the Queen and Paddington, actually made me cry….

Yes it was the best bit, & very emotional.

It’s the younger generation of singers Kadinsky plenty of all ages in the mall and in the royal family.
I’m sure the line up was designed for all ages, the theme was the past 70 years and future generations.

Galaxy Sun 05-Jun-22 10:46:26

It depends who you are aiming at though doesnt it. Many people of the younger generation wont know much about the Spice Girls for example.

Sparklefizz Sun 05-Jun-22 10:47:37

And where were Ed Sheeran, Adele, Jack Savoretti, Take That, Robbie Williams, One Direction, Leona Lewis, Will Young?

Someone British should have ended the show, not Diana Ross lip-syncing. When I said this last week, I was mocked, but this was a British celebration and we have so much British talent.

Kandinsky Sun 05-Jun-22 10:50:56

Well if they’re the future of British music god help us.

Just to say the message by Geri Horner (Spice Girl) was cringe making and overdone in the extreme. I felt quite sick.

Galaxy Sun 05-Jun-22 10:52:36

But the spice girls werent particularly skilful in terms of musical ability. It was ok pop but not much more in my view. You are never going to please everyone.

Pittcity Sun 05-Jun-22 10:53:21

I was worried about the Governor General of Canada sitting behind William. She didn't look happy at all.....

Ed Sheeran is the finale of the Pageant today.

Chestnut Sun 05-Jun-22 10:55:21

This country is a powerhouse of musical genius, at least it was in the past. That should have been reflected in the lineup, the top artists from every decade strutting their stuff and definitely no Americans on what should be a totally Britpop event.

Callistemon21 Sun 05-Jun-22 10:58:32

So the Queen performance was not their best

I enjoyed it but then Brian and Roger are always brilliant imo.
I thought Adam did just fine; Freddie was unique so no-one will ever be the same.

I won't mock you, I agree. She wasn't that good.

"Who are these beetle people, dear"

Joseanne Sun 05-Jun-22 11:09:04

And where were Ed Sheeran, Adele, Jack Savoretti, Take That, Robbie Williams, One Direction, Leona Lewis, Will Young?
I think a lot of these were either on tour, performing elsewhere, about to give birth or trying to overcome depression. Interesting that many of them are from X factor type shows, but are they all great musicians? Diversity included a few of them.

Joseanne Sun 05-Jun-22 11:10:39

I agree Diana's lip syncing was poor and very noticeable to the camera.

Dinahmo Sun 05-Jun-22 11:14:37

I think that many of you are forgetting how old you are. Those acts that you have never heard of were for the younger generation.

Sparklefizz Ed Sheeran is winding up events this afternoon with the National Anthem apparently.

Dinahmo Sun 05-Jun-22 11:15:55

Chestnut - many of them are dead!!

Audi10 Sun 05-Jun-22 11:15:55

Oh I just loved it, very funny!
