That men and women put tops, t-shirts etc on using different techniques?

Women tend to put it on over their head first; and then do the sleeves bit.

Whereas men put their arms in the sleeves first; and then put it over their head.
(I’ve never even attempted this method - it seems so alien)

In my experience this is universal.
I wonder why?

I will have to do a lot of research on the subject.

I may have found the subject of my (mythical) PhD!

Fanny. My mythical PhD is on the causes of transient deafness in the young and the relationship to weather patterns and ventilation.

(Why, when the sun shines do young people have to put their car stereo on full volume with the windows open? ?)

It’s reassuring to know other people have mythical PhD aspirations. Do you think it is worth starting a thread to see if there are more of us out there?

What annoys me is the way they take them off by pulling the neck over their heads before taking their arms out! It’s disastrous because the neck ends up miss-shapen and torn!

I’m an arms first kind of lady! My husband always pulls tops off from the back of his neck and then over his head. Very strange to me.

Perhaps women don't do the arms first in order to keep their make-up un-smudged.

I do arms first !

Should I be worried! I definitely put my arms in first and then my head, this way it does not mess my hair up, take it off the same arms first. Never though about it before. Oftenthought why don't I take hours to get ready when going out, make up on max. 10 minutes, clothes decided beforehand, always ready before everyone especially my late husband, who knows how I could have looked if I had taken more time over it. On a girls holiday, I'm the one with a very small suitcase with a small Choice if outfits, as have a back problem, my friends very often had to pay excess but always looked very nice with changes of clothes I couldn't do.

Back in the 70s, when I was still in my twenties and working in an office, one warm day I took my jumper off the usual way, arms crossed over and jumper pulled up and over. An older colleague stared at me and then stood for about 5 minutes, trying to reproduce the procedure in a strange pantomime. I still don't know why he was so baffled - he was married with 2 grown up daughters; he must have seen it before.

Both my husband and I put on T shirts head first. I pull a T shirt or sweater off with arms crossed in front like you JackyB and my husband thinks my method is illogical! He laughs if I get stuck ( as sometimes - now I am less flexible- I do!).
I'm sure I would have dressed myself from a young age ( I had a twin - and a slightly younger sibling- so Mum would I am sure have encouraged independent dressing as early as possible! My husband had several older siblings to assist with undressing- and uses the pull at the back neck and pull method.
Young children have relatively short arm bones (relative to trunk and head length) so the age at which independent dressing is attained may affect method perhaps? I'm not sure which 'putting on' method ( arms fist or head first) is easier for short armed unassisted toddlers?
Interesting thread!
