Harry and Meghan have issued a photo of Lilibet taken on her first birthday at Frogmore.

What a sweet little girl and what lovely colour hair, more copper than lighter red.

I find it very strange that there is a thread about the dangers of putting photos of GC on GN and other social media sites, yet some expect regular photos of Royal children regardless of whether their parents are working Royals or not.

I am going to be shot down but I think it is a sweet little girl but an awful picture. She looks as if she has no legs or is sitting in a hole. If Archie was in U.K. it would have been lovely to see a picture of them both together perhaps with the cake. However as they are no longer royals maybe we shouldn’t expect to see pictures at all. I do think it is really very sad that with so many cousins around they just spent the birthday it seems with the paid photographer, his wife and children. A long way to travel and at huge environmental cost just to pose at a window on Thursday and be at a church service on Friday. It was a silly day to plan a birthday party with so many Jubilee events keeping the royals busy.

The child seems cute enough.

Lilibet does not look like a balloon or weeble. To me she looks like a delightful one year old.

My word do people with views like Tanama still exist
Sadly yes it’s still there loud and clear

TanaMa for the same reason anyone straightens their hair I expect.
Similarly perms it, curls it, dyes it, cuts it etc

Oh she's a real sweetie!. Lovely photo too.

My DGS has beautiful red hair, which he really likes, but unfortunately has been taunted about it all through his first year at secondary school.

A nice enough picture of a 1 year old who is as sweet as 1 year old generally are.
I'm surprised people still care so much about H and M and their offspring.

Harry is still 5th or 6th in the line of succession. Why shouldn’t people be interested? You obviously aren’t (although you did ask the question…) but a lot are.

My mother’s sisters (5 of them) had red hair, but my mother’s was very dark brown, almost black. Before my hair started to go grey, in the summer I had definite red streaks in my otherwise dark brown hair.
My daughter’s hair is shiny black, inherited from her Maltese great-great-grandmother.

Joyfulnanna Wed 08-Jun-22 12:14:55

Oh she melts my heart. What a beautiful girl

Amalegra Wed 08-Jun-22 12:01:56

I have/had red hair! My maternal aunt also my paternal great uncle and my father’s cousin. Quite a few first cousin marriages in my dad’s family over the generations (!), including my paternal grandparents. That might explain one side of it I suppose but no one else in either family in living memory but us four had it. Would be so interesting to go back through the generations to see how these patterns emerge wouldn’t it?

First DD was born with red hair - a surprise to many who didn't know that my mother was a redhead. The gene had skipped a generation. DD's hair is beautiful - thick and lustrous and a wonderful shade of auburn (just like my mother's). I have two brown-haired GSs but maybe the gene will skip another generation to their offspring....

Very cute little one but it’s a very odd pose……where are her legs/feet? Obviously under the frock, I know, but it does look a bit strange.

I agree with you. She's a little cutie, but it's an odd photo to release. The way her dress is bunched up she looks like a balloon.

She’s sitting on a grass ledge, her legs are hanging down, not under her dress.

Ahhh, thanks for this, it was confusing me. She looks like a Weeble!

I have red hair and was told that my grandmother on my father's side had red hair until she died at the age of 84. One of my grandchildren has red hair like mine, and he is now 27 and unfortunately going bald. I have always loved my hair and used to sit in the sun and admire the colour...

Silvertwigs Wed 08-Jun-22 11:28:46

The Sussex’s would only have sold the pictures!

Grandma70s Tue 07-Jun-22 22:40:28

My mother-in-law had red hair, but none of her children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren do. They are all blond or brown.

Not relevant I know, but my father had beautiful hair, wavy and almost black, inherited from his father. His sister had it too, but not his brother, though that brother’s daughter has it. I am very disappointed that I haven’t inherited it. My hair is just ordinary brown.

I’m really puzzled. All this discussion about genes and hair colouring. Isn’t this what Megan said was racist ?
Genuine question .

No.

Although DD used to get a toot on if she was called 'Ginge'

I have a red haired granddaughter. Her father (my son) is brown haired but has a ginger beard, her mother is brown haired but has a brother who is red haired. My DH had light red hair, I had brown hair (before going grey), my brother had red hair when young and my paternal grandmother was a red head in fact my DGD looks very much like her.

I’m surprised a professional photographer actually allowed that photo to be released.

It doesn’t say much for his expertise.
