Something I have always wanted.

I love viewing outdoor sculpture exhibitions and have often wanted a sculpture of my own but they are very silly prices we can’t afford.

On Saturday we visited a NT House and Gardens which had a fabulous display of outdoor sculptures in a variety of mediums such as metal, wood, stone etc. I was particularly taken with a stainless steel heron. DH saw me looking at this exhibit and just said ‘shall we buy it’ ?. I didn’t need much persuading and I spoke to the sculptor today and when the Exhibition ends it will be delivered to us.

The heron will take pride of place in our small walled back garden where I can see him everyday from my office.

He’s definitely male and I want to name him. I’ve looked up the Latin name for heron and don’t like that. Any suggestions for our new acquisition?

Congratulations on your purchase, Kate. I have a birthday coming up this week so have ordered an owl on a fork as a treat for myself! Thanks for the link.

I love the sound of your heron. I have an ibis but some here call them bin chickens. I like them though and he is made from tin and copper and has sat next to my little pool for around 10 or so years. He weathers well.

I’m so pleased Shysal that you have treated yourself. If we had a bigger garden I would buy more.

Happy Birthday in advance. ?

I mentioned these to a friend yesterday, and she was telling me that she fell in love with a driftwood sculpture at Chelsea. On checking the price she found it was £23,000! We have got a bargain in comparison.

NanKate Tue 14-Jun-22 07:51:20

I agree Shysal.

My husband did just tge same for me, way too expensive at tge time, but tgem pleasure I’ve got over the last thirty years has been more than worth it. A thing of beauty is never a waste, mine isn’t pretty and it’s a he, but stunning all the same, even if I move into a flat he is coming with me after a good clean.

Sorry that my the always change to tge it’s a gremlin.

I have forks stuck in the ground in my flower beds to steady myself (old age and RA) when gardening, so I won't have to hide this one!

I’m so pleased Shysal
Please can you and Kate post some photos when your birds arrive.
(Speaking of birds arriving - my housemartins are back! ?)

We have a heron standing by our pond. Only plastic but DH has painted it so it looks quite realistic. His name is Mr. Heron

FannyCornforth Tue 14-Jun-22 15:13:13

His name should be Gil Scott, obviously

MrsKen33 Tue 14-Jun-22 17:34:27

Fanny he hasn’t got enough hair??

FannyCornforth Wed 15-Jun-22 05:24:56

Chinese crested crane = Heron with a ‘fro
(I actually love these birds. I’ve got a really funny photo of DH with one. The bird is only slightly shorted than DH. The poor bloke looks terrified)

FannyCornforth Wed 15-Jun-22 05:25:31

Sorry- that was to *Mrs Ken*smile

grandMattie Wed 15-Jun-22 06:02:34

Our was promptly called “Carlos” by our then 5 yo DGS. I’ve no idea where that came from!

NanKate Wed 15-Jun-22 07:56:02

Our new family member won’t be arriving until after our hols in the New Forest in July. I’m still pondering over the name and your contributions have been helpful. ?

Do you see unusual (for us) creatures where you are nanna8?
Are possums quite a common sight?

Dragonfly, that’s brilliant. smile
Kate, you should be on commission!
