Something I have always wanted.

I love viewing outdoor sculpture exhibitions and have often wanted a sculpture of my own but they are very silly prices we can’t afford.

On Saturday we visited a NT House and Gardens which had a fabulous display of outdoor sculptures in a variety of mediums such as metal, wood, stone etc. I was particularly taken with a stainless steel heron. DH saw me looking at this exhibit and just said ‘shall we buy it’ ?. I didn’t need much persuading and I spoke to the sculptor today and when the Exhibition ends it will be delivered to us.

The heron will take pride of place in our small walled back garden where I can see him everyday from my office.

He’s definitely male and I want to name him. I’ve looked up the Latin name for heron and don’t like that. Any suggestions for our new acquisition?

One thing I really coveted on a trip to France, was a life-size bear, carved out of a tree trunk. I fell in love, but it was out of the question for us, going home by car, and our garden is titchy anyway, but the BiL who we were staying with has extensive grounds and buys a lot of art anyway, inc. all sorts of outdoor sculptures. Alas, he didn’t take the hint. ?

This is one who sits by his pool - isn’t she wonderful? Book, ice cream, and knotted hankie on her head. Looks typically 50s-English-seaside, but IIRC the sculptor was Dutch.

Witzend what a great sculpture.

Have you looked on Amazon as they have some reasonably priced bear sculptures? I bought a Buddha sometime time back and am very pleased with it.

Earlier this year I was thinking that time is moving on, I am 75 and I don’t know how many years I have left. So that is when I decided to do and buy affordable things that give me and my family pleasure. So now I am regularly having a manicure, buy 99p books for my Kindle, treat my son to a pair of shoes that he liked. Sit and read a book at any time if day. That sort of thing.

Well girls I’ve just had a lesson in downloading a photo and it’s worked. Here is Hero the heron. You may need to enlarge the photo to see his fine form.
