Do you want a ‘pet name’ for him - Harry, Herbert, Horace or classical - Hector, Hercules. Perhaps named after the NT property - Chatsworth, Cragside, or something descriptive like The Fish Thief?

Herod(adapted from the Greek),
Homer
Hercules. In flight the heron appears as a very strong bird.

Lucky you Kate!

We consider herons lucky - well that's what I told DD2 when she was worried about seeing one magpie on the way to sitting a GCSE. I told her that there was an old wife's tale that herons undid any bad luck. Luckily the herons we usually saw on our journey were on the river bank as normal.

Our herons were, imaginatively, name Henry and Henrietta.

DD bought DH a metal heron for his birthday a couple of weeks ago.It’s so lovely and positioned so we can see it from our seats on the conservatory.
