Inspired by a similar thread on books.
Mine are "Up" - I don't find it as sad as everyone else apparently does.
"It's a Wonderful Life" - I just don't like it!

Thank goodness there are others who don't like The Greatest Showman! Also disliked Mamma Mia - as soon as I post this I will undoubtedly think of many others!

Kate1949 Mon 13-Jun-22 09:52:31

Les Miserables. La La Land.

Zoejory Mon 13-Jun-22 10:03:22

Casdon

Les Miserables, and Titanic (what’s the point of a film when you know what’s going to happen before you start watching it?)

That reminds me when we were watching Titanic at the cinema.

As we were leaving a young bloke yelled out, You could have told me that. the bloody thing sank, which caused a lot of hilarity.

Night to Remember was far better than Titanic. I can still well up when I think of the old man telling the little boy that they'll find his Mummy. When we know they won't.

Mamma Mia -
I absolutely hated it .

DanniRae Mon 13-Jun-22 10:15:45

I LOVE Abba songs but thought Mamma Mia was terrible. Such a pathetic storyline and bad acting (and singing!) Even Colin Firth being in it didn't improve it for me.

Esmay Mon 13-Jun-22 10:28:43

I thought that I was the only one !
I hated Les Miserables too .
I don't say so , because most of my friends love those films .
I had trouble keeping awake watching them ,but didn't admit it .

We'd be boring if we all liked the same things !

All Bond films leave me cold. I guess I don’t enjoy escapist nonsense dressed up to be real life.

AGAA4 Mon 13-Jun-22 10:39:40

Ladyleftfieldlover

Anything with Tom Cruise in.

Me too! I squirmed when he cast himself as Jack Reacher.

Shinamae Mon 13-Jun-22 10:40:11

ANY musical! My aunt took me to see South Pacific when I was about eight and I don’t know whether that sparked my dislike of musicals. I am probably the only person I know that has never seen Mary Poppins, the Sound of Music, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, les mis…… The list goes on…

Yammy Mon 13-Jun-22 10:42:52

All Bond films,
Blazing Saddles.
Mama Mia,
Laurel and Hardie films and dare I say it Charlie Chaplin films.
I watched Frozen with GC and fell asleep as well.
Harry Potter films.
Yet I have watched Casablanca at least 4 times and would watch it again if asked

Grandmajean Mon 13-Jun-22 10:52:39

I didn't enjoy The Greatest Showman and we are also singing songs from the film in our choir - "This is me" and " A Million Dreams" Hate both songs. Totally forgettable film.
Don't get me started on "La la Land"
Thought both Meryl Streep and Julie Walters were miscast in Mama Mia.

Petera Mon 13-Jun-22 10:54:35

A Fish Called Wanda

HurdyGurdy Mon 13-Jun-22 10:55:04

Dirty Dancing. I have no idea why people rave over it!

Georgesgran Mon 13-Jun-22 11:10:35

I’m not much of a film watcher, so rather than say these are what I disliked, I’ve actually got to say I’ve no desire to see them:-
Mamma Mia - Abba - yuck.
The Greatest Showman.
Lord of the Rings.
The Matrix x3 or is it 4?
Downtown - never saw the tv series either.

Another one who likes Brief Encounter, mostly as a reflection of middle class life at that time. I know my DM hated it and fell asleep through it, when first shown.

Esmay Mon 13-Jun-22 11:38:43

There are lots of wonderful films out there and A Fish Called Wanda isn't one of them - you reminded me , Petera !

M0nica Mon 13-Jun-22 11:44:29

Grandma70s ^ a wonderful portrayal of only a tiny slice of those people considered middle class.

My father was an arny officer. We lived in three bedroomed semi in south London, a very ordinary life where we had no staff of any kind and my mother did everything. When my father returned from India we moved to an even smaller house in Carlisle and, apart from that nothing changed. The life shown in Brief Encounter was as different to ours as it was to most other families considered 'middle class'

Calendargirl Mon 13-Jun-22 13:18:34

‘Brief Encounter’ portrayed to the working class what they imagined middle class was like.

mrswoo Mon 13-Jun-22 13:44:03

La La Land - I only managed to watch the first 15 minutes and then gave up.
Shinamae I have never watched The Sound of Music or Mary Poppins and never intend to. However, I quite enjoy most musicals including Les Mis.

Granmarderby10 Mon 13-Jun-22 13:47:22

There are three that always spring to mind and they are… in no particular order - Doctor Doolittle (original) Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Willy Wonkas’ Chocolate Factory (original).
Never seen them through yet?

toscalily Mon 13-Jun-22 13:49:15

The Truman Show
Some Like It Hot
Agree with La La Land & The Greatest Showman
And anything that had Laurel & Hardie, Charlie Chaplin, The Marx Brothers and Norman Wisdom.

Soroptimum Mon 13-Jun-22 13:50:16

Gladiator. Awful - to me!

Absolutely love The Greatest Showman. But as for LaLa Land! Dreadful. I remember going to see it on my own, as I believed all the hype - was so disappointed.

Blinko Mon 13-Jun-22 13:55:05

Same here re La La Land. Fortunately OH got hold of the DVD rather than seeing it in a cinema. After five minutes I was asleep. What a load of self congratulatory rubbish! It did make me realise just how much the film world in the fifties was dominated by American productions.

And as for Bond films, the whole concept is very dated imo. I watched a fairly recent one with Daniel Craig and a young woman I thought would surely turn out to be be his daughter - but no, she was the 'love interest'! So he's in his fifties and she must have been around 30. It felt very strange somehow.

Witzend Mon 13-Jun-22 13:55:40

Les Miserables - most of it so depressing. One bit I did love though was the Sacha Baron Cohen/Helena Bonham Carter duo doing the Master of the House song.
Best bit of the entire film IMO. And the only really memorable song.

MaizieD Mon 13-Jun-22 13:58:10

Mama Mia - dreadful.

Glad (or disappointed) to find I'm not the only person who has never seen Mary Poppins. Never seen the Sound of Music, either, though I've seen it done on stage.

Everyone raved about Kramer V Kramer many years ago. It left me cold, what a horrid selfish pair..

I don't watch many films, either, though.

MaizieD Mon 13-Jun-22 14:00:12

Oh yes, and Phantom of the Opera. So boring and it seemed as though they were singing the same song over and over again.
