Inspired by a similar thread on books.
Mine are "Up" - I don't find it as sad as everyone else apparently does.
"It's a Wonderful Life" - I just don't like it!

“Mamma Mia” for one. Thought Meryl Streep was miscast, but just didn’t care for the story at all.

Will soon think of others.

I cried all the way through “West Side Story”. There is so much violence, poverty, threats, etc. Hated every minute.

Love Actually.

But I think that I’m far from alone.
It divides opinion (I’m deliberately avoiding mentioning the yeasty, salty spread)

Blazing Saddles. I watched it at the cinema when it was first released. The cinema audience were screaming with laughter from start to finish and I sat there totally unamused. A man sat next to me (who I didn't know) literally fell off his seat laughing and had to be helped back into his seat. I have since tried to watch it on tv but was very bored about 20 minutes in and haven't bother again.

Recent ones that I just haven’t been enamoured with are

The Greatest Showman
Dunkirk
Life of Pi (despite the excellent cinematography’

Will have a think as there must be others…

Almost any film, I am really not a film watcher (or television viewer). Much easier to list the films I like.

Hover, I have just thought of one, I really cannot stand, 'Brief Encounter'. I have mainly seen it in tiny bits, but I gritted my teeth once and sat and watched it from beginning to end. I thought it absolutely ludicrous tosh.

My (then) teenage twin daughters have never forgiven me for falling asleep when they took me to see Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves.

Years later, I also fell asleep when two g.daughters had, on tv - Frozen. (which they both knew by heart).

Pleased you said that.. Thought it was just me.. And The Greatest Showman only saw a little.. Nope!
(I'm also not a Andrew Lloyd - Webber fan)

The greatest showman. My friend and I exchanged quizzical looks when the rest of the cinema audience spontaneously burst into applause. It was the biggest load of tosh I have sat through. I still don't get the attraction

Visgirl snap! Cross post

Sad memories of Love Story, it came out when I was expecting my first baby. I became convinced I wouldn’t survive labour and cried buckets. Still feel teary when I hear the music. sad

Another for Mamma Mia. Did nothing at all for me ☹️

Casdon Mon 13-Jun-22 08:47:52

Les Miserables, and Titanic (what’s the point of a film when you know what’s going to happen before you start watching it?)

Calendargirl Mon 13-Jun-22 08:48:58

Oh dear MOnica, ‘Brief Encounter’ is one of my favourites, more the period, clothes, way of life (for some, of course, doing the weekly shop with just a little basket, popping into the library, lunch out plus cinema, then home to ‘Cook’ having some soup ready, plus listening to the radiogram with DH….)
Aahh!

Wouldn’t do if we all liked the same things, of course.

joannapiano Mon 13-Jun-22 08:51:48

I also disliked The Greatest Showman.
Unfortunately we are singing This Is Me with our choir this month.

I refuse to watch Titanic (any of them) for that reason.

Les Miserables is one of my favourite shows, I detested the film.

The Deer Hunter

And almost all "director's cuts "

PinkCosmos Mon 13-Jun-22 09:04:20

Lord of the Rings - but maybe I am the wrong demographic.

Luckygirl3 Mon 13-Jun-22 09:08:22

Mamma Mia gets thumbs down from me too - so boring and predictable.
Any James Bond film - I like films that do not relay on special effects - so that cuts out rather a lot!

dragonfly46 Mon 13-Jun-22 09:10:33

Titanic - I hate water and there was rather a lot of it.
Dancing with Wolves - can’t stand Kevin Costner.

But loved Mamma Mia and The Greatest Showman!

Grandma70s Mon 13-Jun-22 09:13:30

I don’t go to many films, but I have to put in a word for Brief Encounter. Wonderful acting, wonderful portrayal of the middle class mores of the time, pre-war 20th century, and beautifully structured. It’s a Noel Coward play, so that explains a lot..

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 13-Jun-22 09:18:32

Anything with Tom Cruise in.

grannydarkhair Mon 13-Jun-22 09:20:02

The Sound of Music, totally tedious. Dirty Dancing, never cared for Patrick Swayze. Partially agree about Titanic, it’s ok once the iceberg has been hit.

BlueSapphire Mon 13-Jun-22 09:21:15

The Greatest Showman, and Lord of the Rings. Couldn't stand either of them.
