Inspired by a similar thread on books.
Mine are "Up" - I don't find it as sad as everyone else apparently does.
"It's a Wonderful Life" - I just don't like it!

The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption and Sound of Music - disliked with a passion!

Oh my goodness, those are three of my favourite films! I also love Dirty Dancing.

I agree about La La Land

Pretty woman. Cringe!

Dirty Dancing. Double cringe.

kevincharley Tue 14-Jun-22 21:41:52

Star Wars. Never seen one all the way through but seen so many clips it feels like I have.
Got taken to the cinema to see the fourth one that was actually the first one (I think) and half way through went and chatted to the lad selling popcorn.

Titanic. I couldn't wait for the ship to sink.

Let me join with those who were bored by The Greatest Showman. Almost dropped off but it was the only film locally to take my grandchildren to. Also disliked the musical version of Les Miserables. Generally,I find that turning se rious and dramatic prose works into musicals produces a travesty.

Titanic. Avatar
Its a Wonderful Life.

Ohnoyoudont Tue 14-Jun-22 20:23:27

Can't stand Dirty Dancing. Creeps me out.
Don't like star wars, Lord of rings, Harry Potter. A star is born (lady gaga and Bradley Cooper) District 9

Loved The Greatest Showman

I tried to watch Roman Holiday for the first time recently but only managed the first half hour, the script was so terrible and downright naff. However the stills really do make good posters.

stillaspringchicken Tue 14-Jun-22 20:03:35

Top Gun - thought it was overlong and boring, and won't be watching the new sequel

CanadianGran Tue 14-Jun-22 19:50:50

A lot of the movies mentioned above I didn't bother to see because they didn't appeal to me. I did see Mama Mia, and was embarrassed for the actors that were so miscast and couldn't sing.

The Godfather - I was too young to see it when it came out in theatres, and it didn't appeal to me at all when it was on TV years later.

Gone with the Wind.... just because it is too long.
Any comic book based movie - just because it's not my thing.
Pulp Fiction - too brutal!
Little Miss Sunshine - what the heck was that about?

Musicgirl Tue 14-Jun-22 19:45:12

I meant to add that it seems like tokenism at its worst, too.

Musicgirl Tue 14-Jun-22 19:41:29

Another vote for Lord of the Rings and The Greatest Showman. Mr. Music wants to see the new Top Gun film but will have to go on his own. Possibly the film l dislike more than any other is Forrest Gump. Many Americans seem to find it iconic but l found it totally predictable and so saccharine that my teeth were furring up.
One thing I find annoying in modern historical films is anachronism in the name of political correctness. I have no problem with actors and actresses of any background but this was particularly apparent in the film of Mary, Queen of Scots. Multiculturalism is natural and right in most modern dramas but in a sixteenth century setting or 1930s rural Yorkshire (the remake of All Creatures Great and Small), it sticks out like a sore thumb.

went away for a weekend treat and the host and his family put on inception all the other guests fell asleep tried to watch it several times since and still find it boring

snowberryZ Tue 14-Jun-22 19:06:08

Don't Look Up with Leonardo di Caprio. Don't get the fuss.
Mama Mia. I love Abba's music but thought the film was a boring cringe fest.
James Bond films. I love the music, but that's about it

Sparklefizz Tue 14-Jun-22 18:23:53

La La Land
The Greatest Showman
One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest

Titanic - Spoiler: It sinks.
Pretty Woman - Sleazebag buys a prostitute.
Breakfast at Tiffany's - Casual racism, cruelty to a cat.
Dirty Dancing - Older man has unhealthy interest in an inexperienced young woman.
I do like lots of films mentioned on here that other people hate.
Each to their own, I guess

So many older films have content we would now consider wrong, but we enjoyed them at the time. We see things very differently now.
One film that shocked me when I saw it more recently was Swiss Family Robinson which had quite a bit of animal cruelty including a fight between a tiger and two great danes. I couldn't watch! Really horrible to see. Yet we watched it as children and even my children watched it. Animal welfare was not considered in those days, but is now.

Granny14 Tue 14-Jun-22 17:58:35

Also hated The Greatest Showman. Load of tripe.
Crocodile Dundee just wasn't funny.
A Star is Born extremely dull.

I can’t understand the hype about two particular films - The Greatest Showman and Dirty Dancing. I bought the dvd of The Greatest Showman to watch with DGC. I found it quite flat, and thought that the music was unmemorable. However, it was extremely popular, and I know people who have watched it a number of times.

I bought the dvd, too. Don’t even remember watching it I was so bored. Never understood the fuss about Mama Mia. But I quite enjoyed the follow up one, mainly because Cher is always so watchable.

Copper3 Tue 14-Jun-22 17:36:58

Another vote for...
Mamma Mia
Love Actually
Dirty Dancing (apart from Patrick)..
Absolute rubbish!

TwiceAsNice Tue 14-Jun-22 17:23:56

La La Land was dire. Don’t like James Bond at all but did enjoy the last one it felt very sad, not like the rest.

Can’t stand Mary Poppins

Love all the films Sidney Poitier has been in.

Can’t stand any slapstick comedy including all the ridiculous comedy Christmas films especially Elf

Just thought of another Les Miserables which I found totally depressing.

Chestnut Tue 14-Jun-22 16:54:04

I enjoyed Summer Holiday at the time but it has really dated. And those little scenarios are really weird. The miming sequence, the women that turn old, the girl having affairs with lots of men (A Swinging Affair). It's all a bit strange. My granddaughter watched it but I don't think she's struck on it. Shame really, because some of it is great fun with the young people on the bus.
