Films that everyone likes .... except you!

The Da Vinci code, rubbish film, rubbish book. Moulin Rouge- so boring we left after the first 20 minutes. Most Tom Cruise films but that is more to do with his acting than the actual films.

Blazing Saddles - I fall asleep every time it's on, while my husband is laughing socks off!

I like very few films actually and love even fewer. I thought that ‘Les Miserables’ was dreadful especially a part I (think) I remember when Russell Crowe (or someone) is contemplating suicide by throwing himself off a bridge and singing. I remember whispering (loudly) to my companion ‘just get on with it, mate!’ to the disdain of many other teary eyed patrons (sorry!). But there again I dislike musicals so I shouldn’t have been persuaded to go in the first place (unless it’s ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ which I love!). Too many other dreary films to mention, including ‘The Greatest Showman’, ‘Mamma Mia’, any ‘Star Wars’ film (but never Star Trek films which I love), most horror films-just too silly and unpleasant-, National Lampoon films (stupid), Sex and the City films (awful series)…. I could go on and on! Far easier to list the films I DO like/love as there are so few of them!

Mine are-

Lord of the rings- all of them.
La la land.
The latest Bond film.
Groundhog Day
Frozen - both of them.
Mamma Mia.
The Truman show.
Anything with more cgi than acting.

I love Tim Burton films though. Something with a proper plot and believable but similarly I’m partial to the Guardians of the Galaxy films and some Marvel films. I fell asleep during a Starwars film five/ ten minutes in.

Harry Potter. Hated the books and hated the films.

I can’t understand the hype about two particular films - The Greatest Showman and Dirty Dancing. I bought the dvd of The Greatest Showman to watch with DGC. I found it quite flat, and thought that the music was unmemorable. However, it was extremely popular, and I know people who have watched it a number of times.

La La Land. I couldn’t identify with either of the principals, and the music did nothing for me. Moulin Rouge. A typical Baz Lurman mishmash of conflicting styles.

I slept peacefully through Silence of the Lambs, and from what I hear of it, I have no desire to see it!

Mamma Mia - the girl makes my toes curl!
It's a wonderful Life, - never got to the end of it.
Sound of Music, too sugary

But I love Brief Encounter and Casablanca.

Why Oh Why can't they make .......

Pretty Woman.
Hate the premise, the self involved arrogant Edward, and the whole 'tart with a heart of gold' thing. Who on earth thought it should become a musical as well!

Each and every James Bond film, time to drop the whole thing and stop repeats on TV.

I feel the same as you about 'It's a Wonderful Life'. Never appealed to me.

'Love Actually' was recommended to me but left me cold!

And although I love Bette Davis, I've never liked 'The Letter'.

I'm not really much of a film fan at all. Haven't been to the cinema for nearly 30 years, and don't often watch films on TV, I get bored or fall asleep. However, I enjoy kids cartoons and Disney films. I guess I'm just a kid at heart. Surely films are supposed to entertain us, so I like them to be fun, light hearted and amusing, I don't want to be scared half to death!

Sound of Music. We drove a long way in foggy weather to see it and it was such a waste of a journey. So sugary,,.............

La la land, and Love Actually. I'm also not keen on the Bridget Jones films

Cant stand any horror films/ thrillers, wont watch any sad or violent films or any featuring sexual violence or abuse of any kind. There is too much of that in real life and I go to be distracted or educated not shocked and traumatised

The original Top Gun. Seems so cheesy now having watched the other day. New one is better. Then again, can't have one without t'other.

I'd tried to watch Groundhog day many times but it drove me to stressed out insanity very quickly. But during lockdown , I tied myself to the chair and matchsticked my eyes open and loved it !

Got the same problem with our Singing For Fun group - our conductor likes all the Greatest Showman songs even though they are difficult for group singing!

Purely personal point of view but I loathe it when foreign language film - usually beautifully made and well acted are given the 'Hollywood' treatment!

Mine is Wayne’s World, my two daughters absolutely love it. I watched it with them once and l just couldn’t understand why they thought it was so funny, l do have a sense of humour l really do, oh well each to their own l suppose.

Ah yes, Lost in Translation, that’s another deadly boring load of piffle. Oscar winning, was it? Perhaps it’s an American idea of subtlety…
