Films that everyone likes .... except you!

I agree about La La Land. I switched it off after 20 minutes, fortunately I was watching it on a plane and hadn't paid to see it.

The Full Monty - I don't dislike it at all but I don't think it's a comedy, I think it's very sad.

Usually I enjoy the experience of a cinema visit and being transported to another time and place, and suspending my disbelief.

Having said that, Interstellar annoyed me right from the beginning. It started off by saying that nothing more could grow on earth except this one kind of maize and there were two people sitting on the veranda drinking beer. What do they think the beer was made of?

Lost in Translation and American Beauty both Oscar winning films but can't see why.
Hated The Sound of Music

I loved Up but could never see the appeal of It's a Wonderful Life.

2001: A Space Odyssey. Think it may have been the most boring and incomprehensible two hours of my life!

Brief Encounter.

Casablanca.

Moulin Rouge.

Wanted to like them all and tried a few times. But nope. Not for me.

Aw Brief Encounter ... what an idyllic life she had. Coming home and her children were already in bed after wandering round town, having lunch and going to the cinema. Obvs her not the children. It's like a bit of history. There are so few people at the railway station too so a bit different to now.

Dirty Dancing. The only good bit is the dance at the end.

Love Actually and Titanic - detested both! I don't really do musicals either - never seen The Sound of Music - or most 'romcom' films either.

Oh yes, and Phantom of the Opera. So boring and it seemed as though they were singing the same song over and over again.

Mama Mia - dreadful.

Glad (or disappointed) to find I'm not the only person who has never seen Mary Poppins. Never seen the Sound of Music, either, though I've seen it done on stage.

Everyone raved about Kramer V Kramer many years ago. It left me cold, what a horrid selfish pair..

I don't watch many films, either, though.

Les Miserables - most of it so depressing. One bit I did love though was the Sacha Baron Cohen/Helena Bonham Carter duo doing the Master of the House song.
Best bit of the entire film IMO. And the only really memorable song.

Same here re La La Land. Fortunately OH got hold of the DVD rather than seeing it in a cinema. After five minutes I was asleep. What a load of self congratulatory rubbish! It did make me realise just how much the film world in the fifties was dominated by American productions.

And as for Bond films, the whole concept is very dated imo. I watched a fairly recent one with Daniel Craig and a young woman I thought would surely turn out to be be his daughter - but no, she was the 'love interest'! So he's in his fifties and she must have been around 30. It felt very strange somehow.

Gladiator. Awful - to me!

Absolutely love The Greatest Showman. But as for LaLa Land! Dreadful. I remember going to see it on my own, as I believed all the hype - was so disappointed.

There are three that always spring to mind and they are… in no particular order - Doctor Doolittle (original) Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Willy Wonkas’ Chocolate Factory (original).
Never seen them through yet?

La La Land - I only managed to watch the first 15 minutes and then gave up.
Shinamae I have never watched The Sound of Music or Mary Poppins and never intend to. However, I quite enjoy most musicals including Les Mis.

‘Brief Encounter’ portrayed to the working class what they imagined middle class was like.

Grandma70s ^ a wonderful portrayal of only a tiny slice of those people considered middle class.

My father was an arny officer. We lived in three bedroomed semi in south London, a very ordinary life where we had no staff of any kind and my mother did everything. When my father returned from India we moved to an even smaller house in Carlisle and, apart from that nothing changed. The life shown in Brief Encounter was as different to ours as it was to most other families considered 'middle class'

There are lots of wonderful films out there and A Fish Called Wanda isn't one of them - you reminded me , Petera !

I’m not much of a film watcher, so rather than say these are what I disliked, I’ve actually got to say I’ve no desire to see them:-
Mamma Mia - Abba - yuck.
The Greatest Showman.
Lord of the Rings.
The Matrix x3 or is it 4?
Downtown - never saw the tv series either.

Another one who likes Brief Encounter, mostly as a reflection of middle class life at that time. I know my DM hated it and fell asleep through it, when first shown.

I didn't enjoy The Greatest Showman and we are also singing songs from the film in our choir - "This is me" and " A Million Dreams" Hate both songs. Totally forgettable film.
Don't get me started on "La la Land"
Thought both Meryl Streep and Julie Walters were miscast in Mama Mia.

All Bond films,
Blazing Saddles.
Mama Mia,
Laurel and Hardie films and dare I say it Charlie Chaplin films.
I watched Frozen with GC and fell asleep as well.
Harry Potter films.
Yet I have watched Casablanca at least 4 times and would watch it again if asked

ANY musical! My aunt took me to see South Pacific when I was about eight and I don’t know whether that sparked my dislike of musicals. I am probably the only person I know that has never seen Mary Poppins, the Sound of Music, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,les mis…… The list goes on…
