In Northumberland it's 16°c breezy and damp. Look...

Witzend Fri 17-Jun-22 18:49:02

It’s been roasting here (SW London) and in Oxford where dd is, but because they’re going camping from this afternoon until Sunday, it’s apparently going to rain all weekend.
You can always rely on Sod’s Law!

Mid Cornwall this afternoon at 3:00pm it was 28c. I drove 15 miles to the coast further south west and temperature was 19c. Cloud cover was coming in fast from the south west. All flights to Isle of Scilly were cancelled.

Another thing me, cold in Northumberland. Woke at 5am, too warm. Assumed it was going to be sunny. ⛅

No chance.

Currently 31C in my corner of Lincs. Part sun, part cloud and gusty wind all day and the pollen levels are in the stratosphere. My eyes hurt, my throat's scratchy, my nose is blocked; my head aches and I just want to feel cool and normal again.

East Yorkshire, OK but not as predicted.
However BBQ lit, wine poured and ready to sit in our evening spot at the bottom of the garden.

Don't worry, MiniMoon
One hot day does not a heatwave make!
Just as one swallow doesn't make a summer.

It's not 1959, 1976 or 2003 all over again - yet, although you'd think so listening to all the warnings in the media.

Elizabeth27 Fri 17-Jun-22 20:14:06

I have been in Kent today, 32C ,mainly sweating and moaning.

Maggiemaybe Fri 17-Jun-22 20:16:27

It's felt like around 30 degrees in my little part of Yorkshire. We went to cheer on two of the DGS at Sports Day - they didn't seem to notice the heat but we certainly did!

Afterwards I suggested we hop on a bus rather than trudge up the steep hill in the heat to where we'd parked our car. So we hopped on a bus that was going the wrong way and ended up trudging half a mile further. What with that and my part in us turning up to Sports Day half an hour late, I'm not flavour of the month today. blush

Yammy Fri 17-Jun-22 20:22:03

It's quite cool and has been raining on and off all day here in the far North West.

Pittcity Fri 17-Jun-22 20:24:36

It's still 28° in Colchester only dropping to 18° overnight. It feels really close even though there's a warm breeze.

Witzend Fri 17-Jun-22 20:29:29

Lovely to see Gdcs of 7 and nearly 6 like 2 little fishes in their mini swimming pool after school yesterday. I just hope there’ll be plenty more days when it’s warm enough. It’s the 3rd summer of that pool now - a first-lockdown investment when all the pools were closed, so they wouldn’t lose their water-confidence.
With a bit of luck and enough warm days the 2 year old will be swimming by the end of the summer, too. ?

mokryna Fri 17-Jun-22 20:48:16

It was 34 degrees today. However, the humidity was only 42% which made all the difference from the UK. Tomorrow 37 is promised.
I close all the blinds except the room I am in, something like the wintertime, and only open the windows when cooler.
I can sit on the balcony to watch the world go by.

pinkprincess Fri 17-Jun-22 21:11:16

I live in Newcastle and it is rather miserable weather today 18C
Never really reached above 22 yesterday.
Mind the Hoppings open tonight always bad weather when they are here.

Harris27 Fri 17-Jun-22 21:35:06

I live in the north of England. I always say sumner is a few dry days up here!

Harris27 Fri 17-Jun-22 21:35:31

Agree pink princess.

NanKate Fri 17-Jun-22 22:28:34

You can tell it’s hot here in Bucks I’ve removed my cami, refused a hot water bottle, had 2 showers and have a fan going in the bedroom. Phew ?

Zonne Fri 17-Jun-22 23:37:07

No heatwave for me either.

Poured with rain all night, then dry, but very cold and windy today in Orkney. But I had a shadow all day, for the first time in a week!

Tomorrow there will be gale force winds, apparently, and temperatures will feel about 6 degrees.

Shandy57 Fri 17-Jun-22 23:51:37

I'm in Northumberland too and was surprised to wake up to such a dull morning after yesterday. Lovely sunset tonight!

karmalady Sat 18-Jun-22 06:35:11

29 yeaterda, grey and cooler today. I survived fine yesterday, floated around in a cool kaftan but main thing was that I blocked the sunrays from coming in through the windows. I pre-empted the sun and shut all east shutters before I went to bed. Definitely it worked, my house stayed at 24 through the whole of yesterday. It is a bit methodical but the west shutters were closed at 2 and the east shutters were opened

I was thinking of my sisters in aus, both moved because of the heat, one within a year of moving because the fires came so close. It was a constant 40 there. I am a cool weather person, never could stand the heat

Marydoll Sat 18-Jun-22 07:13:37

It' s only 11° here in Glasgow. I'm getting a bit annoyed at hearing from the newsreaders that the country is in the throes of a heatwave. No its not, only some of the country is!

Sago, we have an almost identical set of tables and chairs.
The garden photos are lovely.

karmalady Sat 18-Jun-22 07:34:48

my son loves glagow weather

Marydoll Sat 18-Jun-22 07:45:50

karmalady

my son loves glagow weather

I'm willing to share some of it!

I don't like really hot weather, but a bit of sunshine always boosts my spirits.

MrsKen33 Sat 18-Jun-22 07:56:11

Positively tropical here. Warmish and very heavy rain ????

Pittcity Sat 18-Jun-22 09:38:02

I have often thought that sharing things around would make life pleasant for the whole world. Weather would be one thing that could do with evening out.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 18-Jun-22 10:18:56

Around 30 degrees in north Norfolk yesterday but we had a wonderful sea breeze all day. This morning the temperature’s half that and it’s been raining, more forecast later. I’m not complaining, I don’t like hot weather now and the water butts will be full again!
