Does she just play herself in EE then?

Never heard of Jessie Wallace either.

All this just made me think it is not unique for famous people to continue having fans despite unsavoury actions

Famous people have always had some unsavoury habits, historically.

I think anyone is entitled to have an opinion about a person who committed such an aggressive crime. It is not right that someone can attack a Policemen and be released without charge. Likewise, our TV licence money is paying her wages so we can also have an opinion about the BBC keeping her in her job after committing that crime.

Those two things are facts, nothing to do with speculation on her mental state or possible alcoholism which are irrelevant.

Well its not a fact that she kneed policeman in the groin; that's what's being alleged. But unless any of us have seen the police report or heard an interview with the policemen in question, we don't know that this is a fact, I think. I think its supposition, but even if its not, I don't know the criteria for charging somebody with assault. I'm sure there are people on here who do.

I suppose we do all pay her salary as licence payers; personally, I don't think I have the right to tell Tesco's who they employ, even though I give them a darn sight more money than I give to the BBC.

And people here have speculated on her mental state and whether she is an alcoholic, or just likes a drink.

But we know she has already been suspended by BBC from filming the soap when she was drunk on set a few years back. That is disgraceful behaviour in the workplace, to my mind probably worthy of the sack. So yes, the need to drink, for whatever reason, certainly plays a part in her life. Not speculation by people here.

Surely we should be able to expect that people who are effectively role models to younger people who watch their shows, can act with a modicum of decorum. Maybe if we held our tv stars and similar to account, society might wouldn't be going to hell in a handcart.

Er I dont think EE is a particular role model for young people, it's mostly watched by those in the 60 + age group.

I think most young people are savvy enough to realise it is just a story. A far fetched one, considering the number of murders, arson attacks etc.

When I taught, primary school children were discussing EE so I would beg to differ.

It may be just a story but the actors aren't. Young people take their cues from all sorts of people other than their teachers or parents. Music stars and actors are often much admired and emulated.

I am sure some young people do watch EE but that's really not its main demographic.

The younger cast members on EE are actually more representative and some are good role models.

My 11/12 year old daughter was obsessed with Eastenders for a couple of years. She grew out of it. I think a lot more youngsters watch this than you might think.

So should we discriminate by age? Of course some of them are good role models and long may that continue but we also try to teach our kids that actions have consequences be they good actions or bad actions.

The last time I looked Eastenders was PG rated, but I am aware that some youngsters under 11 do watch it. My point is that no youngsters I know admire Kat Slater!

Certainly not. The character Dot Cotton was 90+ and had pearls of wisdom to offer young and old.

I don't have an opinion about any drunk people who were arrested in North London (?) on Saturday night, because its none of my business. I don't know their past history, I don't know what their given names are, I don't know what they do for a living and I don't demand that they should be sacked.

I don't make judgements about their mental health, I don't expect them to be banged up. I'm not crossing my arms, harrumphing and pursing my lips.

I don't have a flaming torch or a pitchfork, either.

Generally I really disapprove of EE . It normalises bad behaviour and even murder.
I recall it started as a programme that we could watch as a family but now I think Lord Reith would definitely not approve.

It started with them kicking in a door to find the body of a murder victim
