WELCOME. How pleased I am to be able to say...we have a new gathering place.

GrannySomerset Fri 29-Jul-22 15:58:27

Very impressed, Urms, you must be so pleased. And if you can do that I can drive further afield and stop being so reluctant and restricting my own life.

Been for a hearing test this afternoon and recognise that I need to invest in hearing aids if I am ever to be a social animal again. Ching!!!

muse Fri 29-Jul-22 17:13:54

Such excellent news Urm. That mountain has been climbed. Great achievement and such a buzz.

Pleased to read BiL is home Yia. Goodbye Harper, hello Boris ?? Is there room for one more? ?

Slow covid recovery for DD. Her and DGD1 are feeling a little better. A full fridge from the Sainsbury delivery yesterday but neither of them have an appetite though. She has no one to ask to drop off what they need and had no tests, so I posted a box up to her yesterday. With recent visits to hospital for MrMuse and myself, I have a good supply.

I’d planned to cut the grass today but far too hot.

Take care Kitcheners.

brook2704 Fri 29-Jul-22 17:17:41

Lovely positive news here today , well done naughtyneine for your achievements and I’m sure you can do it too grannysomerset, a little bit further each day perhaps?
We’ve had a quiet day here, SiL is on his rota day off so no DGC to look after. It’s been really warm here, about 21º so it’s been quite hot doing the gardening. I rewarded myself with a mini magnum whilst sitting in the shade - yummy. There’s lots left if anyone fancies one ..
Good news about your brother Yia and hoping your DD and DGD are much better soon muse

soop Fri 29-Jul-22 17:30:56

Urms I am DELIGHTED for you. Wonderful reassuring news has given you a positive spring in your step. Many flowers for you.

Dear Dragonfly, my thoughts are with you.

Yia More splendid news regarding your brother-in-law. You are a marvel. Acting as kennel maid to Harper and soon to
arrive, Boris deserves a mighty big hug.

Nannytopsy Enjoy!

baubles I think of you often. I have driven all manner of cars throughout my life. However, not too long ago, I felt nervous behind the wheel. I am therefore not likely to drive in future. Mind you, if an automatic Mini found it's way to our door...wink

brook We've had a beautiful, hot, sunny day. I've been doing a few simple garden jobs. As I look through the window, very dark clouds are gathering. I sense that a storm is brewing.

I still haven't managed to catch up properly. I need an extra couple of hours spare in the day. Who doesn't?

Enjoy the beginning of your weekend, dear Kitcheners. You are all super special. smile moon

mrshat Fri 29-Jul-22 17:42:47

Well done Urms - that's one hurdle overcome, now onwards and upwards - I will endeavour to take a leaf from your book flowers

ShazzaKanazza Fri 29-Jul-22 17:46:30

Good afternoon lovely Kitcheners. I’ve brought you all some lovely dark chocolate gingers from Thorntons. Urms recommended them so blame her lol
they are of course calorie free.

Don’t know where today has gone it’s flown by. DH has been giving our bedroom and en suite a good muck out and doing a few minor repairs in there. He loves a good clean up.

GrannySomerset I wish my DH would go for a hearing test but he says he can hear fine he’s just choosy what he listens to where I’m concerned. I must just sound like white noise to him?

Muse hoping your DD and DGD feel better everyday.

DS is staying again tonight, hubs is putting some salmon on the bbq.
Oh also today I was cutting a plastic tag out of a dress and wasn’t paying attention and I cut a hole in it. ?duh.
It was small so I stitched it. It’s on the side near the label and a heavily patterned dress so I should get away with it. Couldn’t believe it. My sewing kit consists of all the little kits you get free in hotels. I know!!

Ok everyone hope you have a good evening. Speak soon xx

Fennel Fri 29-Jul-22 18:17:30

I read this thread every day but don't often post.
Just to say I love the sitting outside idea, We bought a garden chair recently and tidied up our tiny back garden. Now all my friends want to come round and sit and chat.
It's quite a novelty in urban/mucky Gateshead.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 29-Jul-22 18:17:33

Evening kitchen friends x

Have been to the local RHS Gardens with 7yr old GS, he had great fun looking for butterflies and ticking them off of his discovery sheet, and following the paperless trail.

Chinese takeaway for dinner, I am collapsed on the sofa with a nice cold vino blanco, thank you for your lessons Urmstongran #lazygran ?‍♀️

Kate1949 Fri 29-Jul-22 18:42:18

Another one here who reads every day but rarely posts. I wanted to say, as a fellow health anxiety sufferer, well done to Urms. smile

Grannmarie Fri 29-Jul-22 19:17:24

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people! Happy Friday ??

Well done, Urms and Neine, I admire your honesty and your efforts to ' feel the fear and do it anyway ', inspirational. ?

Shazza, I hope you enjoyed your ' child free Friday ', recharge your batteries ? for the next day with your wee grandchildren. I usually try to have a gentler day after a full on childcare day, we've got to pace ourselves!

YiaYia, I'm so glad to hear that your BiL is now home, that will lift his spirits! Enjoy your visiting Granddogs, Harper is beautiful, please post a photo of Boris when he arrives.

My sister is looking after her gorgeous Granddog... a Golden Retriever, leggy blonde!!...just now, while her son and his lovely fiancee are abroad for a friend's wedding. We've enjoyed some walks together.

I hope the headaches have now gone, Dragonfly and Grandmabatty. I seldom have a sore head, but just recently I've been troubled with flashing zigzag lines in my peripheral vision, my optician did tests and diagnosed visual migraine, apparently you can have the ' aura' without headaches?

GrannySomerset , my hearing aids are the most expensive items in my jewellery box, ££££ !

Lovely to hear of so many of you enjoying time in the garden, out and about and with grandchildren, the weather makes such a difference.

Very sad morning, I accompanied DS2 to the Requiem Mass for his friend who died very suddenly aged 41. R.I.P. Johnny. His Mum and I were in the Maternity Hospital at the same time. I remember our joy at the births of our baby boys, only days apart. Heartbreaking to see her today in her sorrow.
Let us count our blessings.

TOYA, enjoy the weekend.

ShazzaKanazza Fri 29-Jul-22 19:42:24

Grannmarie that is so heartbreaking to hear. ? your poor friend what a terrible trauma to go through I can’t imagine x

Yiayia4 Fri 29-Jul-22 19:45:07

Grandmamarie just to say I’ve had visual migraines for many years stress can cause it and you’ve had plenty of that.Take care ?

Grannmarie Fri 29-Jul-22 19:48:24

Thank you so much, Shazza and YiaYia ??

Grandmabatty Fri 29-Jul-22 19:48:50

Grannmarie the headache has gone thank you very much. I'm sorry to hear that you are suffering from migraines. And the loss of your son's friend at such a young age. It's so cruel.
I have been full on grandma since three this afternoon. dgs1 is now in bed and frankly I could go too. I'll tidy up the chaos first. Have a good evening Kitcheners.

Grannmarie Fri 29-Jul-22 20:16:14

Thank you, Grandmabatty. Enjoy the wee boy's sleepover. I love looking in on them when they are fast asleep, so sweet!

Jaxjacky Fri 29-Jul-22 21:15:11

I’m late tonight, we’ve played bowls and stayed for both sessions, almost three hours and ate very late, not ideal, we need a plan. However, it was good exercise out in the fresh hour with more new people, so feeling virtuous as well as knackered!
Very good news from Australia Yia, must have cheered you.
My sewing ‘box’ is very similar to yours Shazza and frequently gets mislaid as it’s rarely used. Don’t know about #lazygran, can’t be a***d comes to mind, I stapled a droopy hem of a skirt at work once.
That’s heartbreaking Grannmarie very hard to comprehend.

I’m gabbling, because I’m tired, I’ll wish you all a good evening, what’s left x

Grannmarie Fri 29-Jul-22 21:28:35

Thank you, Jaxjacky, I'm glad you enjoyed your bowls evening.

Urmstongran Fri 29-Jul-22 21:38:34

‘Evening All’

Oh how lovely are you all cheering me on? Thank you. It means a lot. We share our good and bad times on here. ?

yiayia no it wasn’t the menopause. I think it was just ‘getting older’ and becoming more apprehensive about life in general and being more aware of what can (sometimes) go wrong. I’m sure we all, at our age, have dear friends whose health took a dip and made us think ‘hang on - there but for the grace of ...’.

Health is definitely WEALTH. Without a doubt. Money can’t buy it that’s for sure.

I’ve had a manicure today and once again have lovely short nails. I prefer them this way to be honest. They look like ‘Smarties’ now in a vibrant summer holiday coral shade.

Grandmabatty your posts often make me chuckle. You seem such a kindly grandma. I totally get that tiredness when you said you wanted your bed too! We’ve all been there. You will love waking up with your grandson in the morning. It’s special isn’t it and a feeling of contentment for a job well done, helping your daughter.

Shazza I’m off to buy some chocolate gingers tomorrow now you’ve put them in my mind again! I love Thornton’s being downstairs but my scales don’t.
?

Blossoming Fri 29-Jul-22 21:41:24

A very late and very quick visit from me. I’ve read through the thread quickly, lovely news YiaYia and congratulations Urms! Wow, that’s some achievement.

Mr. B and I had a wonderful day birdwatching, we even spotted avocets, which have recently started breeding up here. Fish and chips for lunch in a lovely pub. A rather slow journey home, the roads are manic with the start of the holidays and the usual roadworks. Too full and tired to eat tonight. Goodnight all, sleep tight x

Urmstongran Fri 29-Jul-22 21:41:28

Kate1949 ?
It’s rubbish isn’t it? x

Hellogirl1 Fri 29-Jul-22 21:43:32

Soop, I thought your yellow mini was an automatic?

Kate1949 Fri 29-Jul-22 21:50:12

Yes Urms. Well done you.

Urmstongran Fri 29-Jul-22 21:52:48

GrannySomerset it’s such a shame isn’t it how we let our thoughts hex our potential for enjoyment of our lives? On one level we realise it’s self inflicted which makes us sad. We would change it if we could. It’s no fun. I just had a cosmic push yesterday. I await another. ?

muse soop mrshat you all get it. Thank you.

I hope I haven’t missed anyone out. I would feel bad.
Uh uh, Yes, I know I have. dragonfly for one cones to mind now and you too GG13. Oh and LLFL. Heck... This is the problem for wishing to mention individuals. Perhaps it was better not to. Ah well, you know I’m trying. (Himself would probably say ‘very’ ).

You are ALL such a support bunch. xxx

Jaxjacky Fri 29-Jul-22 21:59:39

It’s a life leech Urmstongran and Kate1949

annsixty Fri 29-Jul-22 22:10:14

I just want to say to you all after reading your posts tonight.
So sorry for the parents of the 40 year old who died before his time and to his friends but we must make the most of what we have, do not waste it.
This evening I have been into central Manchester with my G D.
We had cocktails at 20 Story’s for those of you who know the city.
We then had a super meal at The Ivy which is next door to 20 Story’s.
There is lots of life left in later years if you embrace it( and are fit enough I have to say)
I am now in bed with a cup of tea, very welcome I must say.
Sleep well everyone.
