WELCOME. How pleased I am to be able to say...we have a new gathering place.

kittylester Mon 27-Jun-22 09:39:27

Not mustard, urms, Worcestershire Sauce or Henderson's Relish.

Urmstongran Sun 26-Jun-22 21:42:46

P.s. Baggs I recommend a dash of mustard with the cheese on toast. Elevates it to another level. Sod the herbs.

‘Evening All’

I’ve had a busy day playing make-believe ALL DAY with L’il Miss (9am till 4pm) with two short walkabouts in the square downstairs - one for a new Barbie doll as promised and t’other for a gourmet lunch - she delights in a Gregg’s sausage roll and juice. It’s a very occasional ‘treat’ when here as her mum calls it ‘beige food’ hehe!
?

We’ve had a very easy evening meal and I poured a large malt beforehand. Cardhu. One of my favs. Smooth, not smokey. And well deserved that grandma!

Baggs and Blossoming such poignant posts illustrating the acceptance yet upset of “loss”. Some days must just be harder. Dear soops comforting kitchen is a haven for unburdening and we all understand the need at various times in our lives, and are grateful for it.

brook2704 Sun 26-Jun-22 21:24:35

Good to hear from you hulahoop and don’t worry about not having much to say, I’m like that sometimes as I’m sure we all are - sometimes we’re busy and other times not so much, it doesn’t matter at all
Good that you saw your DGD in her dance show and enjoy your holidays next week

Lovely pictures Yia sorry you’re a bit bruised though, take care

Baggs Sun 26-Jun-22 20:12:16

Thank you all, dear kitcheners, you are all so kind. Having decided that it was not the painting that was the issue but the Last Stand of the really not very bad cold that was making me feel grim, and after moaning on here, I felt a good deal more positive. Thank you again.

And then MrB made the tea. Well, my part was sawing a crusty cob loaf in half vertically and then one half (the other is frozen for the next cheese on toast treat) in half horizontally. I then had to find a way of balancing the thicker round-topped half on a grill pan so that it would toast evenly. A china chopstick rest came into play. MrB grated cheese, sliced onion, fried onion, asked for "just simple mixed herbs" when I offered Herbes de Provence. I said the label being in French did not make them unsimple, without telling him the jar had been refilled with Co-op's best 'simple' mixed herbs ?. It was all very pleasant and homey. Also delicious with a glass of some Old Vine Grenache that a friend had given us. There's something about bread and cheese and wine that never fails.

NannyTopsy, "just a bit creaky to I can walk 50yards in 18 months" sounds like a shockingly fast change! I hope you can keep up the slow walk for a long, long time. Hugs.

Blossoming, yes, the thought of the givings-up can weigh one down at times and, as you say, this kitchen is the place to come. It is a comfort to know one’s not always trying to bear up alone. Well, your comment was to me anyway, so thank you.

Lovely Cub badginess there for your DGS, brook. It reminded me of a pciture of Minibaggs with all her Cub badges at an event at Fordell Firs just before she moved up to scouts. Happy days. Have fun with your DGD’s Brownie uniform in due course but meanwhile, enjoy your walking holiday/challenge.

Grandmabatty, ear-aches are some of the worst pains. I hope your GS gets over his asap.

I’ve to be up early tomorrow so I’ll be off to bed soon. Thank you again to everyone who commented and so helped me over a bit of an outburst, an "accumulation", as Jax sort of put it, and into a tired but relieved evening. Kitcheners are great ?

brook2704 Sun 26-Jun-22 19:45:29

Love the cardigan nannytopsy! Yes I remember all the white baby clothes, or lemon coloured if you didn’t know if it was a boy or a girl - happy days!

ShazzaKanazza Sun 26-Jun-22 19:43:57

Nannytopsy DH is a definate keeper while he feeds me as well as he does. No wonder I can’t lose weight.
That little blue cardigan is gorgeous and the cushion it’s on looks exactly like the one I have. GD says it’s her special cushion that she sits on at the table. A new August grandchild how exciting x

Blossoming Sun 26-Jun-22 19:21:33

I’m good thanks GrandmaBatty and Jax! I have a full stomach and a sense of satisfaction at clearing quite a lot of floor. I’ve had to put the vacuum on charge so unfortunately can’t do anymore today! #sorrynotsorry

Nannytopsy Sun 26-Jun-22 19:09:35

He’s definitely a keeper Shazza! Lots of DHs cooking the tea tonight. Here, it’s my turn. I bought a ready stuffed chicken but it cooks in the bag too - I didn’t realise. I have picked a few strawberries, some red gooseberries and one stick of rhubarb, to make a mixed fruit crumble. My favourite! I leave one on the table with a big jug of custard for soop.
Your sunset was just beautiful yesterday!
I have a new scabious and penstemon which are flowering - at last I have grown a scabious! It’s only taken 40 years. I blame the under gardener, who weeds them out!
The cardigan is for new babe due in August - DD’s 1st. Remember when baby clothes were white?!
Hope everyone has a good evening.

Jaxjacky Sun 26-Jun-22 18:39:45

Hi all, poorly grandchildren, they always seem so helpless when they’re little, may they all recover swiftly.
I hope your daughter stays safe from the dreaded Covid kitty she has enough going on.
Time to put your feet up Blossoming, enjoy your cake, it’s deserved.
Bet you were well chuffed*brook*, precious moments.
We had the children and grands for lunch yesterday, but of reminiscing to when my children were young, lots of laughter.
The leftover gammon will be eaten tonight with egg and chips for MrJ, I might have salad and sneak a few chips.
Sometimes Baggs it all accumulates, may you have a gentle evening and better days ahead.
Take care all x

Grandmabatty Sun 26-Jun-22 18:37:46

Shazza that looks delicious and beautifully presented too. Blossoming I hope you are feeling more like yourself as my gran used to say. Baggs keep painting. ?
I made Savoy cabbage, mashed potatoes, tenderstem broccoli and carrots to go with the mince round for dinner. The whole thing was delicious. Soop a beautiful sunset and garden. Have a good evening Kitcheners.

brook2704 Sun 26-Jun-22 18:37:39

Here’s the jumper, they’re not all entirely straight but at least they’re on!

brook2704 Sun 26-Jun-22 18:33:54

Good to see so many of us in the kitchen this afternoon, the best place to be

Baggs I really feel for you, please rant and rave as much as you like, we’re all here for you. Life’s tough at the best of times, I hope that the cold you mentioned might be the reason you’re feeling worse right now. Sending gentle hugs ❤️

Your poor wee DGS grandmabatty, hope your DD gets any help needed and he’s on the mend soon

You’ve a beautiful garden soop it looks so peaceful, green and tranquil - a beautiful place to live

Ive finished sewing on the cub badges for DGS but surprise surprise DD has now asked me to sew on all the brownie badges for DGD too ?‍♀️
They’ll have to wait though as we’re off on our walking holiday tomorrow ( well it’s not really a holiday, more of a challenge for me but DH will be happy) , so will let you know how we’re getting on!

That’s delicious looking Shazza well done to you DH - do you hire him out?

Take care everyone

Blossoming Sun 26-Jun-22 18:29:56

Beautiful presentation Shazza. Mr B is cooking an omelette for my tea, with a salad and some air fried chips.

ShazzaKanazza Sun 26-Jun-22 18:16:42

Soop what a beautiful place you live. Glorious garden and glorious sunsets.

I’ll put a pic on of my tea. I never usually take a pic of food but had to show you what DH presented me with.

ShazzaKanazza Sun 26-Jun-22 18:00:19

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners another lovely day but the wind is very strong.
SueDonim hope your GD is feeling a little better today
Blossoming I’m feeling like being a bit rebellious in my 60th year I’m definately wanting to add to my one tattoo if I’m brave enough.
Brook it’s so lovely hearing about your grandaughter I’m sure you were bursting with pride. When we were at DDs today she was telling my DH about M doing her ballet and she can already see how beautifully she turns out her feet and points her toes so well. She’s 3 so maybe a dancer in the making like her mummy.
Baggs you offload on us all you like that’s why we are here. You enjoy that tea and chocolate. ?
Hope your DD doesn’t succumb to covid Kitty ?
Grandmabatty poor little GS with his sore ears. It’s horrible. Hope he’s more cheerful soon.

Busy kitchen today. With lots of support needed?
We’ve had a couple of nature reserve walks which were lovely. We went to a strawberry picking place but they had none already picked to sell and there was no way I was going to pick my own. I didn’t think my back and knee was up to it.

Right hubs has made tea. So my smoked haddock is calling.
Love to all speak soon x

soop Sun 26-Jun-22 17:57:07

Dear you lovely lot, I've been trying to catch up with myself ever since I got out of bed. Sorry. I will to play catch up tomorrow.

Baggs Nods from me. I can guess how you are feeling. I'm waiting for results of bloods. Also battling chronic fatigue as a result of the cancer drug. I'm sending you a special, gentle hug.

A hug for you too, kitty together with those of you feeling under the weather or with worries concerning family

I shall leave you with a pretty sunset and a view of part of our garden.

Love to to you ALL. smile moon

Blossoming Sun 26-Jun-22 16:37:25

Your poor wee DGS GrandmaBatty it sounds miserable, I hope he feels better soon,

Blossoming Sun 26-Jun-22 16:32:39

Sorry, posted too soon! My impairments, not my imp. Every now and then the weight of my disability and the thought of things I have had to give up, or will never now experience, occasionally overwhelms me. It happened quite recently, and I crept into the kitchen, snuggled in a comfy seat and enjoyed the warmth and kindness found here.

I hope you feel better soon xx

Blossoming Sun 26-Jun-22 16:24:14

I’m back! I have been crawling round the floor collecting all the rubbish that I manage to drop (and often don’t notice). A lot of it ends up under the furniture and I only find it when I want to do a major vacuum clean. Mr. B meanwhile has been working in the garden. It’s time for a coffee break and I have some lovely salted caramel squares to share, so dive in all!

So glad you had a good evening Brook. I feel for you Baggs, this kitchen is the perfect place for some comfort when something has disheartened you. I have long ago come to terms with my imp

Baggs Sun 26-Jun-22 16:21:01

Thank you, peeps! As it happens, it just occurred to me that I've been fighting off a cold since Friday afternoon and that may be what has exacerbated the underlying problem. Now I've realised that I feel a lot better.

I held off the wee dram because I want some wine with my cheese on toast at tea time – MrB's mid-diet treat; he loves his cheese on toast ?

I'm too old for all this!! Just what I thought last year, kitty, along with "It should have been me with breast cancer, not her". Life's a B sometimes!

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 26-Jun-22 16:20:20

OH and I had lunch out and it was most delicious - prawn cocktail, roast beef etc., and Eton mess. All a bit retro but my favourite. We then had a look at William Morris’s grave in the local church yard. OH is now asleep in the conservatory. I’m about to read the papers.

Dogsmakemesmile Sun 26-Jun-22 16:05:35

kitty my best wishes to you and your daughter. I am sorry you are going through this.
baggs I wish I could wave a magic wand and make everything better.
Grey and blustery here. Tackling a task I have put off doing for weeks and now half way through it I feel like a different person. I must learn to stop procrastinating.
Had run out to local ASDA. Almost empty so a pleasant and calm experience.
Tea is baked potatoes and umpteen salads.
