I always wash underwear yes, but I can honestly say I do not wash anything else! Maybe I’m a mucky pup!

Those who wash new clothes - what do you do if the item doesn’t fit or is the wrong shape/length whatever? You can’t return it, can you?

I try clothes on before I buy them and once bought I wash them before I actually wear them or add them to my wardrobe. The crisp new feeling are the spray on chemicals

Forgot to say that I once got scabies after trying on clothes in a rather grubby changing room in Greece. Not an experience I would ever want to repeat.

Yes, if it's going to be worn next to the skin, underwear, bras, tshirts, things like that.

Used to but decided that, along with ironing, there are better ways to spnd my time.

Absolutely yes. I wash chemicals off fruit and veg before eating so why would I would I put them next to my skin?

Niucla97 Tue 28-Jun-22 13:21:13

Always. You don't know what's on them or who has tried them on.

I knew an elderly lady that was brought up to resew the buttons on anything before she wore it!

Always

razzmatazz Tue 28-Jun-22 13:10:17

Never. Clothes are never quite the same after washing. Seems to take some of the stuffing out of them so they are limp. Don't see the reason for it myself.

I bet after reading some of these about rashes & body lice etc you're all going to wash them first in future aren't you?????

Beanie654321 Tue 28-Jun-22 13:07:03

Yes as you never know if some one has tried on

Nannan2 Tue 28-Jun-22 13:02:25

Yes always.Always have, but especially now we've got covid, monkey pox and God knows what else in circulation... Most of the labels tell you to anyway?

TiggyW Tue 28-Jun-22 12:50:58

I’ve never thought about washing new clothes, but maybe I should. I always wash clothes from charity shops. New bedding usually has a label advising to wash before use, so I do.

I always wash everything before I wear it. Firstly I want to get rid of all the processes and handling they have been through and secondly I like the feel of things that have been washed ....the process makes them 'mine'.

rosieod1 Tue 28-Jun-22 12:46:09

Everything. Always. Makes me shudder to think how many times something may have been tried on and touched by others

I always wash new clothes before wearing. We don't know how fabric has been stored or for how long. Also if you are buying an item which has previously been returned if could be dirty or worn for a time.

Years ago I bought a cheesecloth shirt, made in India, and got an awful allergic reaction to it. Still don't wash everything before wearing it though, just avoid cheesecloth. grin

This maybe a controversial comment but here goes,
does nobody wonder what causes the rising rates of cancer
when our food and clothes are constantly subjected to
chemical sprays?

AnD1 Tue 28-Jun-22 12:28:03

I heard of someone who bought a dress and wore it and put the labels back on and got her money back. I was appalled but just goes to show!

Lettice Tue 28-Jun-22 12:25:29

No. I like to give my immune system something to do, Keep it up to scratch. x

Edith81 Tue 28-Jun-22 12:06:17

I wash everything that I will wear and even sheets and pillowcases. Years ago I bought new pillowcases and used them that night. Next morning I woke up with a rash all over my face and neck.

jangeo44 Tue 28-Jun-22 12:05:56

No never

JadeOlivia Tue 28-Jun-22 12:04:25

No, never have but have noticed that younger generation do ...covid?

Fronkydonky Tue 28-Jun-22 12:02:10

Always wash new bedding& towels, not always new clothing. If cotton items smell of that finishing starch and feel weird I’ll wash them gently, if woollen sweaters that have been in packaging then no. Underwear, yes as again they usually have that finishing starch smell. I hate to see a man dressed in a shirt that is just out of the shirt packaging and you can see all of the folds in the fabric ? usually men who are unmarried.
