New items of clothing ! Do you wash before wearing?

Always. Many (cheaper) clothes now come from India, Pakistan and China. The clothes are sprayed with pesticides (eg formaldehyde) for transportation to stop fungus and mould growing and to prevent bugs being transported. Not sure about clothes from elsewhere in the world but suspect it is the same. Formaldehyde can cause skin irritations and allergic reactions. Same with bedding.

It's never occurred to me to wash new clothing before wearing it and I'm wondering how awful is the knowledge of NotSpaghetti's daughter.

No. I like the ‘new clothes’ smell, and also the ‘crisp’ feel, which disappears when you wash them.

Nope. I even bought a new pair of shoes the other day and wore them home (yes, I am six years old, in my head ) without washing them. I’m still here and my feet haven’t imploded.

Yes I always wash mine, watched a show on BBC and apparently there are all sorts of chemical nasties on new clothes from the manufacturing which you need to wash . No thanks.

Yes I do I think someone might have handled the clothes with dirty hands. You can clearly see that something has been tried on as there are streaks of makeup.

Brand new clothing - no, but if I got something secondhand then I’d definitely wash it before wearing it.

Yes I wash new clothes before I wear them. I'm having a real struggle to control my eczema at the moment so I need to know there's no starch or finishing product on the garments.

It depends. I bought linen trousers the other day and wore them straight away but the shirt I bought at the same time had a chemically smell and so went in the wash.
