I am bemused by the amount of times GNetters seem to “report” other members for things which are frankly none of their business. I guess they were school snitches …
The result is the loss of longstanding members of GN through either suspension or their resignation (often due to some perceived “ganging up” aka. Disagreeing with other posters. )
Well done !
A bad landlord by the sounds of it.
Hi, Callistemon21 I've had a trawl through several threads and can see that some people have a much more direct approach than others and indeed I have seen that some posts seem to be bordering on what some people might find to be a too aggressive tone. Including some on this thread. But of course I cannot see those that have been removed following reporting.......which would have been useful to see as examples of what is deemed to be unacceptable. To answer your question, if I saw anything that was truly awful then yes I would probably report it however I believe that the system needs to be reviewed and changed so that if a post is deemed to be unacceptable by GNHQ then action should be taken against the poster, but the offending post should remain visible as an example so that everyone can learn to improve over time. Maybe GN isn't actually suitable for everyone all of the time, just the same as sometimes we have face to face spats with our closest friends and families and we have to find a way of handling those too. We probably can't always walk away from close friends or family, but we all have the ability to walk away from GN even for a short period if we don't like the tone. It seems that we have several options available for dealing with undesirable behaviour on GN and so we should make our choices and then get on with our lives.
That made life easier for the landlord.
A bit like knowing there are certain neighbours you can't reason with so going straight to the landlord/council
I once had a neighbour like that. My (then) LL said "I dont like tittle tattles" and put the phone down on her.
Perhaps they had tangled with these posters before and knew any direct confrontation would turn nasty.
I know there are one or two posters that I avoid getting into any kind of argument with, because they just can't take any kind of criticism and become very nasty and vicious.

Are you saying that those on the receiving end, or seeing it, should not have reported?
I’m saying they should come on the thread snd say what they don’t like rather than going straight to gnhq

I've reported bullying or racist/xenophobic (or very offensive) stuff tbh. I don't care who it is and I don't care if that makes me snitch
Great attitude. I agree with it.
I don't agree. As I said before, let the conversation keep going so people can make up their own minds. It isn't up to any of us to decide what is acceptable and what is not. I never report unpleasant people because I want their comments to be seen so they will show their true colours.

I looked back at the OP of this discussion to check what it's all about.
Lucca, MichaelGransnet has explained that, recently, there was evidence of repeated nastiness from some posters - not just disagreeing.
It doesn't matter if they were a 'gang' or not - it was happening.
Are you saying that those on the receiving end, or seeing it, should not have reported?
For info: I have no idea what thread or threads were involved in any of this, and it's years since I reported anyone.
It is immaterial which thread is apparently responsible; it is the content of the posts which is important.
What does matter is that a group of posters were repeatedly breaking guideline on 'mean-spiritedness, ganging-up behaviour and rehashing old arguments.'
Those posters have been suspended, not banned, as is being alleged, and will be allowed to return if they agree to follow Gransnet guidelines.
Still none the wiser.What happened?
Exactly Vintagejazz.

I think the N and P threads are generally absolutely fine. I think it's a default setting to blame that forum. Were these bannings on the N and P forum?
No they were not (as I have already said )
I’m
Not saying which thread as many are perfectly aware

It happens on many forums. Some posters just cannot debate even the most light hearted issue without put downs and unpleasantness.
Others seem to have mood swings. Jolly and cheerful some days and bitter and rude other days. I realise they may have problems and worries but so do many of us, and using other posters, about whose lives you know little, as a punch bag on days when you're feeling low or unwell simply isn't fair.
Just putting in my twopenneth - I know for a fact that at least one poster has been unjustly banned. Reporting to HQ does not always end in the correct result.

*Gaga*, I’m not being drawn into this. When I said that N&P doesn’t deserve it’s reputation for unpleasantness I meant it. On the whole it does not, although like on any other forum there are occasional spats.
We disagree on one issue, and I absolutely disagree that you are a victim on threads about it. This is not the place to rehash old arguments, which is anyway against the rules. I am leaving it there.
I am 100% not a victim. This isn't personal at all.
My point is about attacking others. It happens. And it shouldn't. This is not the place (not that anywhere is really).

Oh yes, I'll take that..my very own owl bodyguard
You flatterer, you. Maybe I'm a badger having an identity crisis
Quite an unusual wolf then
I am a lone wolf and don't operate in a pack. I have no time or desire to do so and anyway, the cats are in charge
I have reported some victim blaming stuff about young women. I think that it. Oh other than obvious trolls.
