I am bemused by the amount of times GNetters seem to “report” other members for things which are frankly none of their business. I guess they were school snitches …
The result is the loss of longstanding members of GN through either suspension or their resignation (often due to some perceived “ganging up” aka. Disagreeing with other posters. )
Well done !

Don't know if others have ever noticed this but I've sometimes seen where a regular poster has been engaged in "heated/assertive debate" and is clearly coming off worse for wear. A new poster, never been seen before, suddenly pops on in vehement support of the antagonist and then vanishes, never to be seen again. I have an elephantine memory and can remember several "one time only" posters.
I am not clever enough to notice that very often, but have seen it, and know what you mean. I was getting at when the thing you describe has happened, but a new poster, never been seen before, emerges and carries on where the first one left off, as though the first one had never left.
Oh.
I'm blissfully unaware of that MissA.
Chewbacca I have noticed that but I only remember one name, from recently.
If I look at topics that usually don't interest me, tho, there are lots of names there that I don't recognise.

True Smileless2012; spelling mistakes are a dead give away!
I don't need to say it.
They said they had set up a new account in order to come and defend themselves.
Sod all to do with me.

It's simple to set up any amount of email accounts, as this thread demonstrates.
Are you saying someone is posting on this thread under more than one name?
Posting style and back story are the usual give away Casdon and GNHQ would of course only look into it if the returning banned poster is reported.

Some of the deleted posts on here were from one of the people (I presume) who have been (I presume) suspended.
The fact that they came straight in and started on the same member in the usual way kind of out them.

You’ve lost me there MissAdventure, how would we know if somebody had misled GNHQ and provided a different email address after they had been banned - do you mean when they are recognised from what they say on threads under their new persona?

I'm perplexed by members who get banned for repeatedly breaching the same guidelines over and over again, promise to mend their ways and beg to be allowed back; come back with a new username, and then continue with the same behaviour that got them banned in the first place! And they always see themselves as the victim!

Me too. And they're usually the old guard.
It's very easy to set up a new email address though. i have several, for different purposes. Nothing sinister - just one for hobby-related messages, one for work, one for times when you have to give an email but know you will be spammed, and so on.
I have no real idea of the process here. It seems deliberately vague, but I wasn't meaning when someone was actually banned (HQ could IP ban them, which is a lot trickier to get around than email changes). I meant that if someone had been nasty to a lot of people, realised that they were close to getting banned, lay low for a while, then came back as a supposed Newbie. No record, no way of posters knowing who they are - at least until their posting style gives them away. What I am wondering is, if GN look at things in context, will they join the dots with new iterations of the same poster?
Or hide behind a VPN.

Don’t you have to join via your email account Doodeldog? If that’s still the case, and assuming people don’t join through a different email account GNHQ would always now who they are regardless of the name they use on Gransnet.
I’d always assumed that there was a procedure in place on here a bit like the disciplinary process at work. You get two warnings, then a final warning, and if you do the same thing again you’re dismissed. Obviously if you commit gross misconduct you can be instantly dismissed. Am I wrong in assuming that?
I don’t think people should come back with a different name. Especially as it is quite obvious who they are anyway. Pointless exercise.
If someone isn't banned, but makes themselves unpopular (and is perhaps on the verge of a ban) so lies low for a while then comes back with a different username, will HQ link the two accounts when the 'Newbie' goes back to their own ways?
I don't have any issue with people starting again with a clean slate, but there is a difference between that and stepping back from the brink and returning so that there is no history or context for HQ to consider.
When I pointed out what she said and why I fought back I got an apology from GNHQ.
It's good to know that that can happen Whiff.

I have reported what are adverts. Also reported some posters when they attacked someone.
On one occasion someone said I must have abused my son. When I fought back guess what she was believed and my post got deleted and had a warning from GNHQ. When I pointed out what she said and why I fought back I got an apology from GNHQ.
I have never abused anyone let alone my own son. Where was the fairness in that. Since then I don't acknowledge she exists on any thread.
We have all read things that people have posted and they have gone to far. A poster I was friends with left GN for over a year because of being bullied . But glad to see her back under a new name.
Life is not black and white but shades of grey. Something's people post is because they can't say in the real world. And I know how much help and support I have had since I joined in 2019 . I try and repay that help where I can.
That's the problem. Some posters become so determined to keep defending their viewpoint, they lose all sense of compassion. I have seen one or two people continue to harass or insult a poster even when it has become obvious, as the thread evolves, that they've suffered a recent bereavement or are going through some other difficulty.
Most posters would just say ',I'm sorry to hear that' and pull back from the thread. But some just keep going, because having the last word or continuing a pile on is more important than showing a bit of kindness.
That's why reported posts need to be looked at in context Whiff. If someone's being goaded and is defending themselves it is right that GNHQ take that into account and it's good to know that they do.
I feel as you do, am thankful for the help and support I have received since joining in 2013 and also try and help and give back where I can

I volunteer to be the madonna with the big boobies if I get banned.
