Do I like Pimms?

I mean, it's sunny. I have a day off work. I am wearing a nice dress. My garden is tidy and I've painted my toenails.

It is as if advertisers know this and online adverts are suggesting I make a jug of Pimms, except I have no Pimms and do I even like Pimms? and I don't think I even have a nice jug or any ice.

Or would I be better investing in Aperol and making an Aperol Spritz instead? but again, I cannot remember if I like it or not

Is this what expensive trips to Sainsburys are made of?

Does this online marketing happen to everyone? How do they even know? (or is it because of Wimbledon?)

Also, it isn't even midday grin

I stick with a G&T, I KNOW i like that for sure!!!

The online marketing is creepy. It seems I only have to think about something and up pops a related ad.
I love Pimms, we make it with ginger beer instead of lemonade, ooh lovely. What time is it?

Drink water.

I love Pimm’s but IMO it’s something to make with advanced notice - have I also got lemonade, enough ice, mint, cucumber, strawberries?

I made a couple of really big jugfuls recently at a big family meet-up cum Big Birthday celebration in France. It all went so fast, I was cursing myself for not having brought more Pimm’s.

I have already planned my Aperol Spritz for my 6pm pre dinner drink!

Witzend Fri 08-Jul-22 12:12:29

I was given some Aperol Spritz not long ago by a SiL who told me it was ‘very fashionable’ - she’s someone who cares about such things.
TBH I’d prefer a Pimm’s any day, or a good old G&T.

Aldi and Lidl make their own version of Pimm's which is lovely. You can also buy small cans ready mixed. Try one of these to see if you like it.

Me too. I’ll make one (or two) later ?

Haven`t tasted Pimms and i don`t do spirits,of the liquid variety that is.

I love Pimms on a hot day and so do my friends .
It's a gin based drink .
We like it with lots of ice , thinly sliced cucumber, oranges and strawberries .

And I make a gin and tonic -
adding lot of crushed ice and thinly sliced lemon and limes with the tonic .

Here's a recipe for punch from my Indian Raj born friend :

Make a huge pot of very strong tea .
Let it go stone cold .
In a huge bowl - add a carton of orange juice and / or tropical fruit juice , some ginger beer , a lot of rum and a mixture of fruit with ice .
I've made it with pineapple juice and pieces of pineapple .
Punch comes from the Hindi word for five , because it originally had five ingredients .

I’m planning a jug of G&T with some nibbles when I settle down with OH to watch the Djokovic/Norrie match this afternoon. Was looking forward to the battle between Nadal and Kyrgios but evidently, Nadal has pulled out because of injury. Shame - hope he makes a good recovery.

Calendargirl Fri 08-Jul-22 12:51:05

Have never made Pimms, (have drunk it), but bought a bottle yesterday as I am hosting a girlfriend gathering in my garden soon.
5 of us, will have a Pimms, (or two) before a glass of Prosecco and then the afternoon tea.
How much to make, how exactly to do it, how much ice etc?

Any advice gratefully received. Have looked it up online, but would appreciate any wisdom.

Excellent idea ?

I'm also in my garden in a nice dress!

Currently having a bit of detox so will be having a non-alcoholic beer later - not really a beer drinker but it's a long drink and I have it in a wine glass! Don't like soft drinks, and a cup of tea spoils the summer ambience smile

Visgir1 Fri 08-Jul-22 13:26:12

Riverwalk.. Have you tried 0% Gin?
Tanqueray do a really good one..

Grandmadinosaur Fri 08-Jul-22 13:28:29

I love both so can’t advise. I think my drink of choice for the tennis this afternoon is a G&T though.
Incidentally Pimms have brought out a limited edition called Pimms Sundowner. I bought some to try and it is vile. Like very sweet, thick cough syrup.Yuk don’t waste money on it.

TillyTrotter Fri 08-Jul-22 13:40:31

Love Pimms and will be trying your version Laura with the ginger beer. Sounds great.

Calendargirl make in advance. Whichever jug you have pour in 1 third Pimms : 2 thirds Lemonade.
I put a few ice cubes in with sliced strawberries, torn leaves of fresh mint and slices or ribbons of cucumber too if you like it.

Stand it in the fridge to chill - you can do it up to 3 hours or so before you want to drink it. When you serve, put 3/4 ice cubes in each glass and pour the Pimms over. Paper straws are good, a couple in each glass.

Cheers! you have made me want one now.

Visgir1 I've had 0% gin at a friend's house, not sure of the brand, and wasn't keen but I might give Tanqueray a try.

I bought non-alcoholic Sauvignon Blanc and had high hopes as it initially smelt and tasted like wine, but after a few sips it was very sweet-tasting and a bit yuk!

Thing is, I like white wine & G&T and know what it's supposed to taste like - whereas I don't normally drink beer so the odd glass satisfies me but expect a beer aficionado wouldn't be too impressed!

I like wine my favourite being rose Cava I am not much of a spirit drinker. When I prepare a special meal for us Mrs Bucket style! I make a nice cocktail to go with whatever meal I decide to prepare.
I make sloe gin for my friends I have recently made an orange liquor too a recipe courtesy of Prue Leith.

Ali08 Fri 08-Jul-22 14:54:03

Pimms is OK,but I find a bottle of gin & whichever mixer you like goes much further!

FannyCornforth Fri 08-Jul-22 15:03:24

I think that it’s too weak for the likes of us Jane
It’s barely alcoholic - you’ll feel a bit queezy before anything else.

I’ll see you in the greenhouse shortly…?

FannyCornforth Fri 08-Jul-22 15:07:48

Oh! I forgot to mention - I’ve got some Eton Mess Baileys. ?
