How long do you stay in your PJs?

Just that really, I ask because it’s 10:30am and I’m still in mine, and this is quite normal for me.
Got up at 8:00am, had a leisurely breakfast, emptied the dishwasher, changed the sheets on the bed, did a bit of dead heading in the garden and now thinking about getting dressed so that I can walk the dog. Am I alone in this slovenly behaviour?

I get dressed as soon as I get up, which is 04:30.

Zoone - I agree, the best bit about being retired is not having to rush around in the morning.
Doodledog - also agree, it’s nothing to do with not having self respect or self esteem, quite the opposite, I’m not out to impress anyone, happy in my own skin.

I'm neither dirty or slovenly, and don't suffer from lack of self care, low self-esteem or self-respect, but I sometimes wear my pyjamas all day if I am in my own house, going nowhere and expecting no callers. They are comfortable, I will be washing them after 24 hours, it means my other clothes don't need to be washed, and (for me, personally) self-respect is gained from how I treat others, not superficial things like clothing.

Totally agree, I’m another who wears my nightie all day if I want to! I have a fairly active social life but often have a couple of days with nothing planned and then I love to please myself when to get up and get dressed. I have bouts of insomnia so I need my days of rest to catch up on my sleep.

Actually reading the posts made me realise I don’t wear PJs so I actually am naked walking to the shower. I have a t-shirt I sometimes pop on to run down and make a cuppa first thing.

I wear my mums old dressing gown.
It zips, from neck to knees and looks like upholstery material.
I've no problem going out to the washing line or to water my plants in it.
It's not likely to elicit much reaction.

If I'm going out somewhere, I'll get showered and dressed etc by about 9. I'm not going anywhere today, so it was 10ish when I did that - after feeding, brushing and cuddling the cat grin, emptying the dishwasher, colouring my hair, watching "Frasier"

I only get dressed to walk the dog. My pyjamas are all cotton and loose fitting so they’re great when it’s hot and I just add a fleece when it’s cold. Thankfully I stocked up on them pre pandemic!

I sleep in my birthday suit, so I dress as soon as I am out of bed.

This latter habit is mainly due to having been seriously ill as a child of seven and spending two months in nighties and dressing gowns. I swore "Never again" and have stuck to it.

Never eat breakfast in bed either - meals in bed bring that time all to clearly to mind.

Up at eight, shower and dress. Wouldn’t dream of going outside in night clothes. Our neighbours do though. He waters his front garden in his pjs !!!!!

Is his “front garden in his pjs” a euphemism?

Another one here who doesn't wear anything to bed. I usually put on a dressing gown, (fleecey in winter, silk in summer) for breakfast then I have a bath and dress. I do most of my chores by midday and in the evening I dress for dinner.
I would only be found in a dressing gown after 9am if I was seriously ill.

nexus63 Thu 14-Jul-22 13:23:48

wake up, take the tablets, shower and clean pj bottoms with a top, have tops-tshirts i just wear about the house, if i do go out i change it pj bottoms as soon as i get home. i would never go out in pjs and if people come to the door and don't like it then tough, i like to be comfortable rather than dressed up.

Six mornings a week I am up, showered and dressed by 8.30 am. The remaining day I have to take an alendronic acid tablet so I’m up before 8 am, take my tablet, stand up for 30 minutes, have breakfast. Shower etc., after that.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 14-Jul-22 13:29:38

I like to be dressed before around 9.30 or 10-ish at the latest. As it's so hot I wonder if I'd be more comfortable in my PJs for much longer (even all day) but I just don't feel right. I'd have to be very ill not to follow this routine.

Do those that wear nothing in bed change bedding more often than those that wear nightwear?

I wear a nightie and as it is next to my skin change it every 2 nights, sheets would be next to skin and sweat so I would feel the need to change them every 2 days.

Pyjamas, to me, are like underwear so would feel the need to change every day.

I have no criticism of those that wear PJs, nighties or nothing during the day, wear what keeps you comfy.

Cabbie21 Thu 14-Jul-22 14:03:52

Nightie, not PJs, but I am always dressed by 8.30.
At night I get into bed as soon as I have put my nightie on. I hate hanging around, whereas DH goes back downstairs in his PJs to watch more TV.

How formally do you dress for dinner?! smile

I am an au naturel type so I too would frighten the locals.

MawtheMerrier Thu 14-Jul-22 14:58:52

Who said anything about PJ’s?
Chanel No. 5

Jaxjacky Thu 14-Jul-22 15:20:29

No nightwear, up, shower and dressed.

Camelotclub Thu 14-Jul-22 15:28:57

It's up to you when you get dressed. Nobody else's business!
Who are we to judge?

Jane71 Thu 14-Jul-22 16:29:49

I wear a nightie and get dressed after getting up around 8.00-8.30 - rarely after 9am.
We're all different, thank goodness, and can't understand anyone spending all day in the clothes they've slept in.

Philippa111 Thu 14-Jul-22 16:46:17

I get up around 9'ish and throw on something then have breakfast, do some chores, catch up on any business stuff...phone calls , online stuff and then generally faff about , more coffee and sometimes a bit more faffing. I have a shower around 11-12. Then I can do 'outside' things or have people over. I try to leave the time for myself until 2pm. It's my time and my life and I can do what I want but it is sometimes hard to not feel I should be achieving more. What this 'more' actually is I have no idea? I think it probably relates way back to childhood when I was bullied by my mother and told I was lazy!! Actually I was always a bit of a dreamer with an excellent imagination and my mother saw this as unfit for life!!

GagaJo Thu 14-Jul-22 16:46:40

If I had a whole day off, which I never do, I'd stay in them until I wanted to leave the house. All day if I could.

But it's years since I've been in that position, so...

Apart from the fact that I do not wear pyjamas, if I am feeling unwell and do not feel up to getting dressed, I have a wonderfully cosy track suit top and bottoms that I get into.

Staying in night attire all day, all frowsty and smelling of bed, is enough to make any feeling of unwellness worse.
