How long do you stay in your PJs?

Just that really, I ask because it’s 10:30am and I’m still in mine, and this is quite normal for me.
Got up at 8:00am, had a leisurely breakfast, emptied the dishwasher, changed the sheets on the bed, did a bit of dead heading in the garden and now thinking about getting dressed so that I can walk the dog. Am I alone in this slovenly behaviour?

Unless it’s a day I work when it’s straight up and shower I get up and feed the cats, and take a cup of tea back to bed for half an hour then up and shower. I’ve never liked being in my night wear in the day unless I’ve been really I’ll. can’t wait to shower and feel fresh. And don’t get me started on the people who wear pyjamas in public!

Its "lounge wear" these days.
Nobody is able to tell the difference: even on here.
A bit like "the latest iphone" which nobody is able to describe in a way that makes it recognisable to others.

Tee shirt and short style pjs
Straight out of bed and into the shower.
Hate the 'sleepy feel' skin and hair even though I have a clean bed.

My mum had several house-coats that she wore over her underwear.
This was on until housework completed.
She also prior gong out, would do her hair and make-up before removing her house-coat replacing with a clean fresh ironed dress /skirt and top.

Ah, the "PJs" question again!

Bossyrossy ... "slovenly" is a judgment, and a subjective one at that.

You do you. I hardly impacts anyone else if you are deadheading in your PJs, and if that is comfortable for you, then you don't need anyone's approval.

It's generally accepted that when we are out in public we are clean and dressed - and the majority of people adhere to this, and obviously you do.

So what you do in the comfort of your own home is your privilege. Does it harm anyone? Is civilisation as we know it coming to an end because you decide to do odd jobs in your PJs before getting bathed and dressed?

IMO people should be free to dress as they please in their home, and worrying about what other people might think is pointless - as you go through life, you will always meet criticism from others - over just about anything you do or don't do. That's the way it is!

Life is short, too short to worry about such things. Finding contentment in later life is essential to one's sense of well-being.

It was me who first mentioned slovenly, I think.
I thought I'd get in first and save people the bother.

I dont wear clothes in bed so I usually put on a kaftan as soon as I get out of the shower. If its very hot and no one is expected I just wear flip flops and a smile!

Longer in the evenings than in the mornings. Soon after our evening meal I'm undressed, washed, pj's on and comfied up on the sofa watching tv. Only have to brush my teeth immediately before bed.
Mornings are a different matter, first cup of tea is always in pj's then I'm showered and dressed, ready for the day.

BlueBelle Thu 14-Jul-22 17:45:35

10 pm until 7am

karmalady Thu 14-Jul-22 17:46:39

I am definitely not slovenly, I shower and get dressed before breakfast. I have my standards and self-respect, will not be falling down the pit

MissAdventure Thu 14-Jul-22 17:50:56

That's the thing.
We all have our own standards; exactly how it should be, if it harms nobody else.

BlueSky Thu 14-Jul-22 17:52:46

Chewbacca

How long do I stay in my pj's? As long as I want to! If I've got people to see/places to go, I'll get dressed soon as I'm up; otherwise it's whenever I feel like it.

Same here Chew
Same here Urms and Calli! (❤️ Badedas)

Chewbacca Thu 14-Jul-22 17:55:56

Whilst wearing my pj's today I: stripped the bed, bunged a load of washing in the machine, vacuumed the whole house, brought the bins back into the back garden, pegged the washing out, stripped the blackcurrant bushes, made 5 jars of jam, filled the dishwasher and then went for a shower and got dressed. The only point where I worried about my mental health and personal standards was whilst I was stirring a boiling pan of blackcurrant jam in a heatwave.

No, the OP used the word ‘slovenly’ in her final sentence.

Whereas I'm happy to wallow. Really couldn't give a monkeys about anyone else's judgement.

I'd roll around on the bed, tea, toast and a book until 11ish. Then move downstairs onto the sofa, still in whatever I'd slept in. If I'd slept in nothing, I'd put on something loose and comfy. All without washing. Although I'd have to clean my teeth. Hate having rough teeth.

I do wonder about those that feel uncivilised just by dint of wearing PJs all day.

GagaJo Thu 14-Jul-22 18:00:10

As it is, I've worked 7 days a week for over a year now. The very opposite of lazy.

All in the eye of the beholder.

Witzend Thu 14-Jul-22 18:01:03

Depends on what I’m doing. I don’t mind admitting that there are times when I’ve looked at the clock - still in pyjamas and dressing gown - and thought, ‘Shit, it’s ten to eleven! What
if someone comes to the door?’
Until then I’ll have been reading the paper, doing all the word puzzles, and checking emails, etc.

Unless I’m really ill I’d never be in them all day though, but then none of mine are remotely beautiful, and now and then I’ve been known to substitute a pair of the thermal long johns dh wears about once in ten years, and one of the cotton vests he hardly ever wears either.
Very comfortable they are, too.

MissAdventure Thu 14-Jul-22 18:01:18

Ah, thanks calendargirl.
I felt sure I'd "started it".

Bossyrossy Thu 14-Jul-22 18:03:33

Dickens - I wasn’t asking for anyones approval just interested to see what others do with regard to PJ wearing.
H1954- I’m with you on that one too.

MiniMoon Thu 14-Jul-22 18:26:31

I can't fetch past my upbringing. My sisters and I were taught that when we rose in the morning we washed, dressed and came down for breakfast. It just can't do it any other way.

JaneJudge Thu 14-Jul-22 18:31:58

I don't know why people have to be so spiteful about other peoples clothes choices

eazybee Thu 14-Jul-22 19:10:00

I feel uncomfortable if I am not dressed by 9am, but I do put the bins out in my dressing gown, usually about 7am, on a Monday morning.
Don't own pajamas.

Floradora9 Thu 14-Jul-22 19:14:01

I could not stand not getting dressed and wearing a bra especially . Breakfast , shower then dress for the day .

grannypiper Thu 14-Jul-22 19:51:10

I can achieve so much more if i am wearing pyjamas, the whole house can be cleaned, admin seen to and animals feed before midday.

MissAdventure Thu 14-Jul-22 19:53:16

Have you got a spare pair of those you could lend to me, please? smile
Bog all gets done here these days.

Daddima Thu 14-Jul-22 20:59:24

It’s only recently that I have really started wearing PJs, and have deliberately bought ones which don’t look too like pyjamas ( shorts and top style for summer, joggie styles for winter)
Even when locked down, I always got dressed quite early, but do like to don the PJs of an evening.
