Good Morning Everyone,
Looking like the start of another hot day here in brackley this morning.
Today , I will try and stay in as much as possible due to the heat, its bad enough watching the cyclists in Tour De France on TV suffering due to the extreme temperatures .
Take Care,
Mick

There are nearly 100 of them Grammaretto with accommodation booked all along the route. I honestly don’t know if back-up vehicles are following them just ? that the no doubt lengthy risk assessment forms have covered every eventuality. Taking School Exchanges to Germany before I retired, the final Risk Assessment ran to 12 pages!

That sounds good Maw!
Aren't you glad you are not organising it grin

Good morning everyone, I was out really early for DDog’s walk. I drove to the edge of the village and we did a big circuit mainly in the shade, which was lovely. It was already very warm in the sun at 7. We’re on a hill and at the moment there’s a lovely breeze, hope it stays so!
She’s now snoozing and I’m trying to summon up the oomph to crack on with pulling up the carpet. New floors start going down tomorrow!
Thinking of you GM, and sending love and a hug ?.
Hope you all have a cool day, in every sense ?

Good morning from an overcast NE.
Today we are having a family lunch in a restaurant and then back to mine for Champagne and birthday cake, DIL is 50 tomorrow.
We collected the cake on our way home from holiday and I had to sit with it on my knee for 45 minutes, I was worried about the decoration getting damaged.
Weather is not extreme here, it is warm but not searing and indoors it is cool.
Enjoy your Sunday.

Good morning from Carnoustie Scotland. Raining at the moment but as I am dog sitting she still needs to get out for her walks. Take care Grandmattie thoughts are with you.

Good morning all from Glasgow where the sun has begun to peek through and we are promised a high of 22deg. today which is hot enough for us to have a pleasant day in the garden.

DGDs didn’t stay overnight as they had, social plans, for the evening. Gosh, they have grown up so fast.

Two of our school G&S productions were The Mikado and The Gondoliers Ash and I enjoyed having a part in both. Happy days.
You are in my thoughts for the difficult days ahead GM?. Hopefully you will catch up on sleep and rest at some point today.
Quite a worry for those who have GCs taking part in activities in such extreme temperatures you are experiencing down south. It’s difficult to acclimatise in The UK as our temperatures inconsistently jump about off and on from very hot to cooler days.

Wishing all a pleasant Sunday.

Morning from S Lanarkshire, cloudy and still here. I went with my friend to vigil mass last evening so a peaceful day stretching ahead with plenty of time to prepare for a busy week. Child minding duties resuming tomorrow, hooray! I can’t wait to be with my seven and nine year old DGC again.

On Tuesday I am picking up another friend and taking her to DD1’s airb&b on the farm which she kindly ‘booked’ us into after my friend had a heart attack in January. We shall go as early as possible because of the forecast heat, a totally unforeseen complication!

I shall be thinking about you and your family too on Tuesday grandMattie, I trust everything goes as you would wish and no doubt have carefully planned.

Thoughts as always for all on here who need them and wishing a good day to everyone ???

Ah yes ‘a chiming clock’ Ashcombe that’s more accurate, thank you! I’ve just Googled the one in my area. It’s a church less than half a mile away - in fact looking out I can see it from here.

I like the square clock tower. The flag pole always displays relevant flags on special days too.

Grandmabatty Sun 17-Jul-22 09:10:03

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 17° and forecast for the mid twenties today. At the moment,it's very overcast. Grandmattie I hope you manage a nap at some point today.
Yesterday was a busy day for me. I met with a friend for breakfast and we had our usual blether. In the afternoon, my aunt and uncle arrived immediately followed by dd and the boys so it was a lovely chatty busy day. Once they had gone, I did some ironing and cleaned the windows and watched a lovely programme about Dolly Parton.
Today I have a couple of washes to hang out and then I'll do the top coats of paint on my front door. Gammon for dinner. Have a good day all.

Urmstongran Sun 17-Jul-22 09:10:37

* I can only see the four corners of the clock tower and the flag pole from my verandah - not all the church. The photo made it seem as though I live across the road from it ha!

Good morning Mick and everyone from grey Carlisle where it has recently showered. The showers aren't doing much good, I had the hose out yesterday on my new plantings. I'll be glad when they establish, watering is a rather boring job. I was off to the garden centre again yesterday morning as I'd been given some tokens. I bought some perennials so there's still a line of plants waiting to go in. I keep telling myself the garden will be full this time! Also at the garden centre, I was entitled to a free cake in the cafe. I brought it home and ate it later...a rather sticky chocolate brownie. There was a hard bit in it, one of my crowns! So a call to the dentist tomorrow is due. It's an old one that I suspect they won't be able to fix back in and I also suspect they will recommend removal of the root. That's what happened to its corresponding fellow on the opposite side. On the way to toothless old hag-dom.
Speaking of cakes, I wondered if that interesting looking cake was as good on the inside, Jaxjacky?
I'd like to be doing anything but my next pressing job which is finalising my cancelled holiday claim and writing a letter and sending forms back to the insurance company. My GP surgery took over 2 months to send the completed medical form back, I felt a bit guilty about burdening them with more bureaucracy really.
After that it depends on the weather, hopefully some gardening or if not, I have my book and a pile of newspapers to tackle.

Have the best possible day everybody.

Good morning from a sunny, breezy W Kent. No real heat yet.
Quiet day today, more sitting in the garden I should think.
Best wishes to all.

Purplepixie Sun 17-Jul-22 09:25:48

Good morning from a warm and sunny East Midlands. There is a lovely breeze for now but I know it is going to build in heat. Stay safe and try and keep cool.

Greyduster Sun 17-Jul-22 09:46:40

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from an already blazing South Yorkshire. I went to bed early last night but was wide awake at 1.40, sad, bored stiff and drinking lemon tea. Then to my great joy, I found a fellow GN had Emailed me with a whole raft of lovely photos of their holiday. It really cheered me up. DD and her menfolk came over yesterday evening to get the roof box for their car out of our garage. We had fish and chips for supper. My back feels better this morning but I’m not planning on doing much. Food shopping will have to wait.
Ash The Mikado is my favourite of the G&S operettas. I often put on the CD and sing along! I love “We are Gentlemen of Japan”!
Have a good day one and all and stay safe in the heat.

Good morning all from South Lanarkshire where it is 17*. At last we may have a warm day.

Nothing happening hereabouts today except for a zoom call with an overseas cousin later this afternoon.

Thinking of you gMattie. thanks

Have a peaceful Sunday everyone.

Mapleleaf Sun 17-Jul-22 10:05:48

Good morning all,

It’s certainly going to be hot today in South Yorkshire, the thermometer is already reading 25 degrees.

Not a lot planned for today. I’ve a bit of washing on the go, and that will dry in no time at all when I put it out. Other than that, a lazy day with a book, probably until it’s time to give the pots a drink when the sun goes down.

?? grandmattie.

What a lovely surprise, greydyster. I imagine seeing the photos and message cheered you ?.

Take care everyone, and those of us affected by this heat, keep well hydrated.

Georgesgran Sun 17-Jul-22 10:14:32

Good morning from an overcast Durham. Rained earlier but hardly enough to wet the soil. I might flick a duster later, but a quiet day in readiness for a busy week as I hope to see 3 friends (separately) now that my cold has finally cleared up and DDS2 is off on holiday first thing Tuesday, so I’ll have both her dogs with me for the week.
No church bells near me, but my DGM’s Westminster clock chimed yesterday and almost gave me a heart attack, as I’ve had it years and it doesn’t work - really freaked me out!

Gwenisgreat1 Sun 17-Jul-22 10:21:32

Good morning all from cloudy with specks of wetness from the sky!
I think anyone cycling in the promised heat must have a hole in their heads!!
I’m self isolating today in readiness for my procedure on Tuesday (assuming it goes ahead). The hospital might just be too hot!
I’m quite happy we don’t have any church bells to amuse us day or night here. When we were first married we lived near a church whose bells rang out all hours of the day and night!! That was in Wokingham.
Today just an easy day, cooking, sewing, and a bit of housework
Have the best day possible folks

Ashcombe Sun 17-Jul-22 10:42:51

When I first bought my flat and heard the church clock, I thought it would disturb my slumber but, once inside, the sound is considerably less intrusive. (Being deaf and removing hearing aids also helps!)

Jaxjacky: my family in Crewe support Leeds UFC, especially my SiL and DGS2! They sometimes venture there from Crewe to watch a game. ⚽️

Pittcity Sun 17-Jul-22 10:47:12

On a Sunday (or special occasion) here the church bells have to compete with the town hall clock that chimes every quarter hour from 7am to 11pm.

MawtheMerrier Sun 17-Jul-22 10:47:23

I think anyone cycling in the promised heat must have a hole in their heads!!

Not sure I like that attribution to my GS, his school or my SIL, Geqnisgreat.
I may not agree with doing it, or be seen dead doing it, but my GS and SIL ‘s intelligence or mental capacity is not up for discussion.

MawtheMerrier Sun 17-Jul-22 10:48:02

Apologies for the mangling of your name Gwenisgreat1

Greyduster Sun 17-Jul-22 13:33:04

Well I would prefer the sound of church bells to being woken up by a bugler playing reveille as I was once while staying overnight with DH in the Mess after a “do”! It frightened the life out of me! He, of course, was used to it!
