I slept well so am up and cooling the house
Every door and window is wide open and so is the loft hatch, I put my bodywarmer on as the cool air is rushing through
I am watching the house temperature fall, this early start worked yesterday and will work today, I have another hour before the sun hits the glass.

Is anyone up? Getting ready for the heat
(97 Posts)Up as well Karmalady. Need to make my next 6 dinners then into the garden and open up my greenhouse and rig up a piece of fleece the stuff to keep plants warm in the winter. Saw 2 butterflies in my greenhouse yesterday. Don't want caterpillars eating my veg. The netting I have got would let them through. It will allow the heat to escape. Even with the door wide open it got to 39.9 in there yesterday. Give everywhere a good misting . Curtains staying closed all day. And staying inside until this evening.
Keep cool everyone ?????
Yup, 'mup too. 04:30 is normal "get up and get the old dogs out for a pee" time. I have to get dressed first because of living in a wee apartment complex - don't want to meet any of the other rezzies in my pyjamas, as it were.
The coolth is lovely. Living room windows open and fan on, temperature has dropped by three degrees already.
Awake and having a coffee before walking DDog. New flooring going down today, house isn’t too warm so far ?? with a breeze. I’ve been keeping the windows open and curtains drawn.
I'm up and about to water the garden - it's very small, no lawn.
I don't have a problem with dry heat, having lived in New Mexico and Saudi Arabia. In Saudi the highest temp I experienced was 49C, but of course everywhere was air conditioned. I don't like high humidity though, brings me out in prickly heat.
Just had the first tea of the day and later will have more teas and a couple of non-alcoholic beer.
Been up a while I am usually an early riser. All windows open trying to get office cool before my DH starts work after 14 days away.
I am ironing a huge pile of holiday washing which has to be done in daily shifts before it's too hot !
Been up for a while, have opened the windows while the air is still not too hot, will close them as instructed after a short time. Made a cup of tea. I still like hot drinks whoever the temperature.
Just about to get up after quite a good sleep. Want to get some washing done, water hanging baskets, go to cemetery as today would have been husbands birthday. Not putting flowers as they would just die in this heat but a graveside card instead. Have a friend round for lunch unless she cancels because of heat. Will hide In house as temperature rises.
Doors and windows all open wide, it’s actually quite chilly.
We had a heavy shower last night and our maximum temp has been downgraded from 40 to 37, yaaay lucky us……
I’ll close the windows and curtains when the sun moves round, then I will go and sit in the huge paddling pool that we bought for the weekend party, cleaned and filled after being full of delighted children.
Meanwhile I have 5 king sized beds to change and all the washing and cleanup to do, but I’ll have to do a bit each day.
Time now for a coffee. Have a good day everyone and stay cool.?⛱
Here comes the sun.
Veggies picked, enough for a few days this time, green bagged to stay nice. Leafy veggies will benefit from having fewer leaves to wilt outside. Berries picked. Tomatoes and a few other precious plants watered and cans of water ready for tonight
Water feature filled again, birds are gasping for a drink
Loft and east windows closed and shuttered, will wait 30 minutes to do west side and even the north window as heat/solar waves will bounce back from the outside hard stuff, like car, drive etc. Houses 2 drives away are rendered and pale like mine so will bounce heat back to my n window
I have a weather station, right this minute, it is 15 out and 21 in. Temperature will increase rapidly
Done the upstairs chores and am intending a slothful day wearing loose lovely linen/viscose kaftan that I made last year
Ooh, Oopsadaisy - winter draws on!
I’m opening the windows now too, the fan is going but I draw the line at changing king-sized beds. One of my least favourite jobs especially now single-handed. I worry that I will disappear up inside the duvet cover and never be found again
‘Morning all
About an hour ago, I fed the dog and the cat; gave dog her medicine; put the rubbish out; sprayed the bin with fly spray (top tip!); opened the back door; topped up birds water; put a load of washing on; nagged DH to drink more water.
Now back on bed and on here!
I’ve been preparing for the next two days for ages (I’ve even had the cat shorn) and I just want to get it over with now
travelsafar
Just off to walk the dog by the river.
We are unlikely to nudge 30 degrees here in Devon and even had welcome rain yesterday evening. I will proceed carefully.
Good Luck everyone.
It’s 10 degrees here, I might need to get a woolly on! But yesterday it was chilly and then suddenly V hot, so I’m expecting it.
I’m a dab hand with the Duvet covers Maw if MrOops tries to help me we get into an awful tangle and it takes me 3 times as long and usually a big argument about how very helpful he is.
Yes, up and about to take dog for a walk….
I will have to try and get the washing out whilst we have hot weather as I don’t want to have to use the drier.
Aah - the pigeons are lining up ready to poop on everything as I speak.
Maw I’ve just read your Good Morning post; and I feel exactly the same as you. I just want it over and done with.
At least we know how long it’s going to last for.
The heatwave of a few years ago (2018?) was horrendous - it seemed to go on forever ?
I've been up and about for an hour or so I slept very well having the fan on all night as usual,I have it on every night even during winter I need a cold bedroom to sleep.
Oliver my furry cat has been rubbed down with a damp towel and has hidden under the tree in the garden with his pal Suzy from next door.
All the blinds are closed for the day as the lounge gets the sun all day I invested in plantation blinds this year and they work well keeping the sun off the rooms very well.
Lots of cold water & plenty of
during the day for me.
If you have to venture out please stay in the shade if possible ladies but try and stay indoors where ever possible.
Up, showered dressed and the garden and greenhouse watered. All doors and windows open to cool the house. Shall close them all around eleven, plus draw the curtains. Siesta after lunch I think. I quite like this.
It is going to be a long day, not even 8 and I have even had my daily coffee, fresh ground beans but stronger than usual
I get concerned about the dogs being walked when the sun gets hot, bare paws and a fur coat.
Let us know how you are managing when it gets hot later
I’ve been up for a couple of hours, had a cool, shallow bath, washing hung out, greenhouse watered.
Showered dressed had breakfast now off to the beach for a swim I m loving it but understand those living in inner cities or inland…. boiling and roasting won’t be
I m so lucky living by the sea BUT it’s not always so, when you guys are just having a cold winters day (or sometimes summer) I might be battered and bullied by a strong, pouring rain, east wind freezing my bits off we just need to enjoy or put up with in whatever way we can it’s only a few days out of 365 after all
I m sick of the tv and radio going on and on we all know what to do surely and it makes no difference how much they go on there are still the (I know best brigade) jumping in reservoirs and rivers
That sounds like my idea of the perfect climate BlueBelle
I love ferocious Winter weather.
And I love the North East (if indeed that’s where you are)
Inspired by the cool “larks” on this thread, I was up betimes, opening windows and even walking Rosie to her massive surprise!
Now back in bed with a mug of tea and the online paper.
