Couldn’t resist grin What do you all make of Prince Harry’s latest venture into the world of public speaking?

Summerlove Tue 19-Jul-22 16:58:23

I had been unaware he'd done a speech until I saw this thread. bit blowhard, but I find most speech's of this type the same.

Anniebach Tue 19-Jul-22 16:59:54

I don’t think it was Eaton which is the cause

Smileless2012 Tue 19-Jul-22 17:02:37

I don't think anyone's saying he shouldn't have made the speech Ladyleftfieldlover, it's what the speech contained that people are commenting on.

Blossoming Tue 19-Jul-22 17:02:56

Ah, the daily H&M bashing thread is here grin

How do you account for the fact that that rag the daily mail
have supported a black outspoken woman: Kemi Badenoch.

I was about to pass comment that Meghan hadn't been criticised for anything yet, and lo and behold, here we are! A Meghan complaint!

is that you complaining? puzzled

Commenting. Don't sweat it.

eazybee Tue 19-Jul-22 17:12:06

Well they do, stick together, that is. But Meghan made very sure that the only person Harry stuck to was her.
Harry cannot speak well in public, which makes me wonder how he was able to command his men in the army. Seriously.

She’s extremely right wing.

The thing that bemuses me is the hand holding. She looked smart and professional which would look good if she wanted to go into politics, but how feeble it looks holding hands. It smacks of how little confidence I have that I must hold my husbands hand at all times. I can’t think of anyone else in the public eye that hold hands constantly.

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 19-Jul-22 17:19:32

The Cambridges are often photographed holding hands.

Anniebach Tue 19-Jul-22 17:33:44

The Cambridges are not often photographed holding hands

Prentice Tue 19-Jul-22 17:35:35

Why would she hold hands with another adult? This I do not understand.I have many friends but we do not hold hands to go anywhere.I have noticed that Megan does cling to Prince Harry and holds his hand or arm and rubs his back in public.
Is she insecure or is he?
Prince Harry does appear to enjoy lecturing others and this fits with his what I would call petulance, it is very childish in a grown man.

Shelmiss Tue 19-Jul-22 17:39:28

Good grief how many more times can he use his mother in a speech? I think he’s become a bit of a bore with all that now.

JaneJudge Tue 19-Jul-22 17:47:41

I love H&M and th white floors and walls and all the air con

Joseanne Tue 19-Jul-22 17:50:07

Prentice maybe you are right using the word "childish" and that is why his wife mothers him with back rubs, (she did a lot of that on his arm prior to his making his speech). We know he is insecure.
Another funny moment for me was when an older black lady led him to the podium but she markedly stopped to point out the 3 steps onto the stage as though to tell him not to trip up like a little boy might! He was 10 times more agile than she was.

Oh my Lord ….criticising the Cambridges is high treason . Get thee to the Tower !

Prentice Tue 19-Jul-22 18:00:53

That is funny Joseanne about the steps, although in these days she was probably told to point it out in case he fell and sued them.

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 19-Jul-22 18:03:21

The Cambridges are I’m sure, perfectly pleasant but dull. The Sussexes are the opposite. Just saying.

Not yet it's not, but apparently it's acceptable to refer to the Cambridges as the Duke and Duchess of perfect. ??

Can't say I've seen photographs of them holding hands recently, perhaps someone can provide links?

I started the thread and I asked, a little mischievously, what others thought about the speech, so thank you to those who have commented on the speech. I realise threads digress though. Anyway I understood that Prince Harry was asked to be a keynote speaker at a conference in rememberance of Nelson Mandela. Apparently he did begin with Mandela, but brought into his speech the fact that his mother met Mandela (she did) but then used the speech to speak about irrelevant subjects, irrelevant with regard to Mandela. He spoke about climate change, a laudable enough subject (though little to do with Mandela) but this sounds insincere coming from one of the kings of private jet usage. Two faced? Yes, he is.

Lucca Tue 19-Jul-22 18:10:11

I’m not fussed if they hold hands but if it’s bad for one couple…

I believe I may refer to members of the RF in whatever way I like !! Without being really offensive I mean. Plus I spell their names correctly instead of deliberately wrong.

Sorry Maddy I have not listened to the whole speech just read a summary in the Times. This whole thing about celebrities talking about climate change but jetting round the world is pretty common I think and is not good !

It's just we haven't seen the evidence to support that the Cambridges " are often photographed " holding hands. Be a shame if we slipped into Boris mode and thought that just by saying something it's true and no evidence needed.
I never spell any of their names wrongly either (never forget the h in Meghan), and make a point of using Catherine's correct name spelled correctly smile

The speech was OK as far as it went, I thought his delivery was a bit 'flat'. I do find it ironic that people with enormous mansions, jetset lifestyles, and privilege beyond compare (no not just Harry!) think to lecture on saving the planet. They forget the bit where it's you they want to make the necessary sacrifices.
