Couldn’t resist grin What do you all make of Prince Harry’s latest venture into the world of public speaking?

This thread, with all its speculation about accidents and next-in-line, is starting to sound like ‘Kind Hearts And Coronets’!

grin

Precisely Smileless (to your last paragraph). Column inches count in his new world.

Plus, if he were to get security paid for here, any country he visited is obliged to pay for his security as well.

As I understand it, we are paying for his court case anyway (could be wrong).
So it's a win win for him.

Why are we paying for his privately brought claim? I understand we have to pay for our defence, but pay for him to make the claim? It’s no wonder he feels entitled!
Do you the state would pay for my claim if I brought a case against them? No? Thought not!

I don't think the position of Regent is automatic (see Richard 111!). The Hanoverians had some mishaps, with someone being dispatched by a cricket ball (Fred?) and there was the undignified race to produce an heir after the death of Princess Charlotte, Victoria being the first to arrive. George V1, talk of one of his brothers taking his place following the Duke of Windsor's departure. I have no doubt there are measures in place about Harry.
But what about Princess Anne?

Anne is 17th in line to the throne, after her brothers and their children! There are two babies before her.

I was thinking more along the lines of being Regent, not succeeding to the throne.

I think Anne would make a superb regent if ever the need arises, but would she want the job?
Harry isn’t even eligible if he lives abroad, but I think he’d be terrible at it. That’s the problem with a hereditary system. People like Andrew and Harry with potential claims to power.
