Another poor child killed at the hands of his parent and lover

Quite agree Chestnut but, if it's anything like Baby P's killers, they'll be out on license in 13 years.

What has upset me so much is that dear boy's innocent face. He looked such a nice boy and so happy with his school friends. He didn't look hard or streetwise. He deserved a good home and loving parents. Maybe that brute (the mother's 'partner') was jealous of him and took it out on him. Absolutely hearbreaking.

I think that life in prison isn't easy for child abusers/killers Chestnut.

It is not fair to blame social workers. They are doing a really stressful job and have large caseloads. We never hear of their successes, only the failures. No system will stop the occasional child death sadly. Perhaps more pastoral care at school - someone the child can trust to report that all is not well at home. Lockdown made things more difficult in this case.

I agree with you mumof social workers like mental health workers have their hands tied in SO many ways they are run off their feet and blamed for everything

I haven’t read anything that suggests this poor child was known or referred to Children’s Services, in fact everything I’ve read suggests not. He came into the country during the pandemic and ‘rarely attended school’ at a time when many children were kept off school due to covid. The attack that killed him happened during school holidays.

It is a terrible story, the poor boy must have suffered so much. It is impossible to imagine how parents and carers can choose to inflict so much pain on a defenceless child.

I can't understand why these dreadful child deaths keep happening. It's almost unbearable to read about yet another one. I hope the parents suffer terribly in prison.
I wish I knew what we could do to prevent more tragedies like this.

I think the pandemic has had an impact on people's mental health over the last two years. People have been trapped in their homes, unable to work, off school, tempers flaring, pent up frustrations boiling over. Obviously I'm not saying this is an excuse for killing your child but it has contributed to nasty aggressive types going over the top. People who were simmering away under normal conditions, just keeping the lid on, have boiled over. The rage has come out.

I knew this would happen when we went into lockdown and only allowed out for food and one walk every day. I was so upset thinking of all the children trapped in tiny homes with nasty angry, frustrated parents. So I'm not surprised there has been an increase in these appalling crimes.

I wonder if it seems to be getting worse because the newspapers now print details from the trials, as well as photographs and videos these murderous parents took of the abuse they were subjecting the child to. As did Hindley and Brady.

I’ve looked for statistics. The nspcc report deaths fluctuate every year. The average over the past 28 years is 79 children each year murdered by parents or step parents. Of the children who are the subject of child protection plans, two of those vulnerable children will be killed each year.
Infants under a year are most at risk. Boys more likely to be killed, seriously hurt, than girls.

I agree that it seems we are facing increases in deaths. We are certainly facing an increase in neglect and abuse. Care proceedings doubled during lock down. We have huge problems with drug and alcohol dependent parents. We. An affordable to invest in family support, preventive and treatment services.
Imo we can’t afford not to. 11 years of austerity has not helped children at risk or in need

Dear God in heaven; I hadn't realised that their were that many. Meanwhile, we cut back on children's services, social workers and family support services.

There are monsters in our midst.

I had to mute the tv because I couldn't listen to the details but I saw the photo's of the muscle bound monster who was partly responsible.

How could anyone be so cruel. I thought a mother's job was to protect her child. RIP poor, sweet boy. It reduces me to tears to think of his dreadful suffering.

I haven’t read it and don’t want to, every one of the stories makes me physically ill and plays on my mind.How anyone can do those things let alone a mother, they should have the death penalty. There is no salvation for them. I do hope very much they are got at in prison. The thought of anyone laying a finger on mine worries me. I would do anything to protect them. Just think how the police must feel, the people that deal with a young life so cruelly taken, it must traumatise them for ever. I know it sounds hard what I say but I stand by it.

Life should mean life.
These people aren't going to suddenly realise they were wrong and be magically rehabilitated.
They need to be kept out if harms reach, for their sake and the sake of those whose paths they may cross when they're let out

Exactly MissAdventure. People of his age who commit such brutal crimes are not going to be rehabilitated. They are fully grown adults who are capable of the worst cruelty imaginable. It's in their memory banks, in their DNA, they will never be safe to live in the outside world.

I really believe that the death penalty is too good an end for these monsters who abuse and kill their own children, well any child killers (Ian Huntley springs to mind). I would open up dungeons or build new ones and there they would spend the rest of their life never seeing the light of day and having the really basic food to keep them alive, bread water porridge whatever and I would even make them sleep on straw!…

When they do get out they should be sterilized and that goes for all child abusers.
