This beautiful teenage boy was beaten and tortured for months at the hands of his mother and lover I hope they not only rot in prison for ever but they are beaten till they beg themselves

Something HAS to be done to protect our children I don’t believe in the death penalty but there has to be something more than a few years of being ‘looked after’

MissAdventure Sat 23-Jul-22 18:44:18

I think account should be taken of the lengths these people go to cover up their crimes, presumably so they can carry on.
They are the absolute lowest of the low.

BlueBelle Sat 23-Jul-22 18:55:41

I d be interested to know what punishment you would want handed out to these low lifes grandma70

I've never laid a finger on anyone but I would make an exception for the likes of these two. Heartbreaking statement from Sebastian's head teacher saying what a lovely boy he was and he had taught his form teacher to say good morning in Polish angrysad

Doodledog Sat 23-Jul-22 19:03:49

I know what you mean, Grandma70

I think the crimes are appalling, and as I said earlier, I just can't understand a mother standing by and letting someone hurt her child - I really can't. But I don't think the answer is to reintroduce violent punishment into our penal system. That would be a backward step, and I think we would live to regret it, however satisfying it might be to think of people like this suffering.

Abusive parents are far too good at covering it up.

When it only comes to light when a child is murdered I have to ask, just how many abusive parents are out there amd how do we stop them?

MissAdventure Sat 23-Jul-22 19:24:34

I absolutely dread to think.
I don't know what the answer is.

Surely no good to report suspicions to an already overrun service?

Chewbacca Sat 23-Jul-22 19:25:12

I'd agree with you Doodledog but for child murder, a life sentence should be exactly that: whole life and no parole. These people cannot be rehabilitated sufficiently to be allowed back out into society where they can have more children to put at risk.

mumofmadboys Sat 23-Jul-22 19:26:47

I am concerned that several people would favour mob rule on prison. That cannot be right.

Yammy Sat 23-Jul-22 19:35:28

My father's answer to this would be to sterilise the woman so she could never have more children.
He was a very mild man who never smacked me or shouted at my mum.
Some of his ideas were very strong and we always felt they resulted from being in Singapore with the forces who liberated the prisoners of war from Chiangi jail. He believed in an Eye for an Eye, though not the death penalty something that would make them suffer for the rest of their lives.
She won't have an easy time in prison the other prisoners will make sure of that. What she did is unbelievable why did she bring him from his father and safety in the first place.

Chewbacca Sat 23-Jul-22 19:35:55

Who's suggested that mumof?

SueDonim Sat 23-Jul-22 19:37:28

I know someone who has had to work on the forensic side of Sebastian’s case. It’s been horrific for them. These criminals leave a trail of victims, such as jurors and police, not just the victim they are on trial for. angry

mumofmadboys Sat 23-Jul-22 19:55:18

Chewbacca - suggested in posts by Bluebelle and Sharon but few others earlier hoping the perpetrators got their just desserts in prison

Kate1949 Sat 23-Jul-22 20:07:01

Horrendous for them Sue.

Chewbacca Sat 23-Jul-22 20:16:32

confused That's what they're prison for isn't it? For just(ice) to be done? They're in prison for committing the brutal, prolonged and heinous murder of a young boy; not having a spa weekend.
In prisons, there is a hierarchy of crimes; robbery, theft, fraud, drug offences, sexual offences, murder.... but right there, right down at the very bottom of that pile, is a crime that shocks and disgusts even the most hardened of criminals - child murderers. But don't worry too much mumof, they'll be out and walking amongst again in less than 10.

I wonder why there are so many of these tragedies nowadays. I'm sure they weren't so prevalent in the past.

I think one factor is that in the past (forties, fifties) people often lived on the same road/ street as their extended family, and neighbours looked out for each other and other people's children.
It wasn't unusual for a neighbour to give a 'clip round the earhole' to a friend or neighbour 's misbehaving child.

Nowadays our lives are increasingly lived online and I think personal relations have suffered.

People nowadays are so wrapped up in themselves; they seem totally obsessed with 'privacy.' (Not naming children at school in case an ex or another person wants to take them away or harm them).

Most of this too stems from the digital age - keeping passwords secret, never revealing your address etc etc.

It's a very complicated subject and I'm not saying that the forties and fifties were better. They weren't, for many reasons. But I do think that on the whole, children were better protected, despite all today's 'safeguarding' that you never stop hearing about.

I wish I knew what the answer is. RIP Sebastian, you were so badly failed.

The justice is the deprivation of liberty.

mumofmadboys Sat 23-Jul-22 20:25:07

I'm sure they will be imprisoned for much longer than 10 years Chewbacca.

Chewbacca Sat 23-Jul-22 20:42:17

Are you mumof? Mairiead Phillpot served 8 years for murdering her 6 children. Tracey Connolly served 13 years for murdering Baby P. What makes you so optimistic that these 2 will be any different?

MissAdventure Sat 23-Jul-22 20:47:17

A petition was started when Starr Hobsons mother was given an 8 year sentence.

I have already said, imprisonment. Their whole life, if they really can’t be rehabilitated. If they can (which I doubt) 25 years. No early release.

Chewbacca Sat 23-Jul-22 21:11:18

I was just reading about Frankie Smith MissA, even after her case was reviewed under the unduly lenient sentencing review, she only got 12 years. For utterly catastrophic and unsurvivable injuries to a 16 month old baby.

Kate1949 Sat 23-Jul-22 21:42:39

It's horrible. I can't stop thinking about Sebastian.

Iam64 Sat 23-Jul-22 22:04:57

I just couldn’t read it. Unusual for me but I’d read a couple of sentences, seen his beautiful face and felt destroyed by his terrible life and death

nightowl Sat 23-Jul-22 22:21:28

Iam I know what you mean. Sometimes just one more child makes you realise how many case records, case reviews, court reports, medical reports you have read, how many hurt children you have seen, and how nothing ever seems to change. I ask myself whether my whole career has been a sham. Poor beautiful boy, such a loss to the world.

Kate1949 Sat 23-Jul-22 22:29:30

You were wise Iam.
