Belated birthday ??greetings to the Gs…GrannyGravy and Gingster and indeed anyone else with something to celebrate this weekend - isn’t it lovely to be back to celebratory lunches and dinners at our favourite restaurants etc ?

Some sewing ? ? for me today as I couldn’t find any pretty pink napkins for my new conservatory dining furniture so trotted to Abakan’s yesterday (via The Range Miss Marydoll ?) and found a linen/cotton remnant which will do perfectly! Just have to master mitred corners now…?

Good morning, all, from a sunny Torbay, from which I plan to escape for a couple of nights to stay at my mobile home at Whiddon Down. This should be a 50 minute drive from here but the holiday traffic could have an impact on progress.

I echo your thoughts on going out for lunch, Pantglas2, having enjoyed the company of two friends from Toads (theatre) yesterday as we sampled salmon, haddock and asparagus fish cakes with salad at The Royal on Babbacombe Downs.

Other good news: my car passed its MOT and has been serviced in readiness for driving to France next month. Luckily, I use a reliable garage within walking distance of my flat. In response to my enquiry, the manager recommended keeping my car for a few more years due to its low mileage and reliability. I’ve owned it from new since 2016 and love it.

A very late (for me) good morning from an overcast E Kent.
Didn’t have an especially good night. I think my brain has lost the knack for sleep.
Has a lovely dog walk with my friends. I then managed to get through to the car insurance and dealt with that. I changed the car ownership to me, then received a letter from the DVLA to tell me that the car wasn’t taxed either - they had already cancelled ownership! I got totally confused, mercifully, DS had come home and sorted it out for me in a jiffy, bless him. Now I’m all legal.
Later, I visited an old friend who hadn’t come to the funeral because of the heat. Very wise of her, she is in her late 90s. She was widowed incredibly young, in her mid 20s, left with two babies. She’s a delightful, intelligent and interesting person; she was a physiotherapist immediately after WWII, not common then.
An empty today ATM, but it may well change.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where we have a lovely sunny start to the day after torrential rain that woke me up around 2am. Oh, a train to Liverpool Lime Street has just squealed into to train station opposite.

Our two daughters are meeting up in Yorkshire mid morning. The 6 of them are camping, so will be setting up their tents, playing games then barbecuing this evening. The Boy Wonder and L’il Miss will be fizzing with excitement as they eat their breakfast! Mum never tells them about such plans until they awake as up till now at their ages, she considers getting the usual good night’s sleep for all more important. Plus, if on the morning there was any reason not to be doing said activity, there wouldn’t be disappointed children as they hadn’t been told anyway! I like her style to be honest.

So our day is quiet. We will just take the day as it comes. Himself will be watching the Grand Prix qualifiers at some point!

Dd had her infusion at home . All done and dusted within the hour. Different from the 3-4 hrs at the hospital, waiting in a depressing room with lots of other poorly people.

Today I’ll read the papers , finish my book (I hope) ?, clear up the house and garden. Dh is going to a footie match - he can’t wait ! First friendly of the season. Tomorrow we’ll travel early to our seaside abode as I think it’s going to be very warm . We still haven’t had the kitchen door window replaced. Hopefully next Thursday ?. Everything is taking so long these days, isn’t it!

Good morning Michael and all GNs from a grey misty Northumberland. Had a good run up. The house we are staying in is beautiful with the coast path and the sea at the bottom of the garden. We had a lovely dinner at the local pub. Not doing much today - maybe some beachcombing and a walk up to the castle. Photo taken yesterday evening. Have the best day you can folks.

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. I’m still in bed so no idea what the weather is like, although there seems to be a certain brightness. I am doing my fortnightly stint volunteering at a nearby well known house. So I’ll be off at 9.50 am and home around 5 pm.

Good morning all from N Bucks where it is overcast but dry.
I have an engineer due to replace the circuit board on the boiler any time between 8 and 1, so no Saturday lie- in with a mug of tea for me today
The Smart Meter is up and running and the “gizmo” tells me what I am using each day - it’s a bit sobering as it is high summer, I’m barely cooking and don’t need lights on until well on in the evening. I hope to finish my big Platinum Jubilee jigsaw this morning, it’s kept me up late the past 2 evenings , you know “just one more piece””.
I’m not really a jigsaw person either, but this one has gripped me. I’ll post a pic of the finished thing , just to show off that I have done it!
I hope nobody or their children is stuck on either the approach to the Channel, or at an airport, both sound like the seventh circle of hell and I feel so sorry for families and also for the lorry drivers whose livelihood it is.

Enjoyable day with the boys yesterday but very exhausting.
Out with our friends later, the wife and I have been friends for over 50yrs, it's her birthday today so we have a meal planned.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 14° and cloudy. Rain is forecast. Lots of nice things on the thread today.
Yesterday I did my usual shop at Aldi then settled down for a quiet day, however that was thwarted. My Saturday breakfast pal messaged to say she was in the area and could she pop in. Coffee and cake ensued and a marathon blether.
Today I'm out for the day at a life drawing workshop. It'll be very interesting to use pastels to catch movement and shape. Have a good day all.

Like GM, I have had very little sleep. ?
Last night as DD was returning from work, a paramedic car came flying down our cul de sac, followed by a blue light ambulance, another paramedic car, another ambulance, yet another paramedic car, then three police cars and a police van. The whole street was jammed with emergency service vehicles.
We knew something terrible must have happened.

The family they were at, are fairly new and are quite secretive, so who knows what happened. Lots of strange comings and goings of cars there at night.
The blue light ambulance and the paramedic, carrying a defibrillator, brought back some distressing memories for me.
It has knocked me for six and I hardly slept, for thinking about it.

I had just fallen asleep, when I woke up with an asthma attack, of course Mr Mdoll was dead to the world and heard nothing!
The icing on the cake: about 4am, our house alarm and every alarm in the area went off, there was some kind of power surge, resulting in a power cut! ?
Let's hope today is a better one for you and I! I am a very grumpy lady, this morning.

I'm so pleased to hear your daughter's chemo went well, Chrissielou. Much better to be at home, than in hospital.

I've cleared the entrance hall (sounds grand but it's just a small rectangle between the front door and stairs) as a fitter is arriving any minute to lay laminate.
No other plans for today but it's going to be a warm weekend after a couple of cooler days.

Good morning Mick and all from Cloudy Chambers northwest coast. About to sort myself out for journey south to be with sister in Surrey, then daughter in Windsor. Hope it’s better than my last journey there, when the trains went haywire, cancellations and delays… I’ve lost confidence in our British rail, wish it could be nationalised.
Good practice yesterday with band, but keyboard player has broken ribs, so just the guitars.

Good Morning everyone from a cooler Severnside.

I’m just going to pop out for a small shop then do some painting on my return. I’m not looking forward to that but don’t want to put it off as I’ve put myself on a deadline forgetting things done by the end of the month.

Mattie, seems like things may have changed regarding changing car ownership and tax since I did mine. I told DVLA via their sensitive case team and they then told me the car would still be taxed in DH name and what month to start to tax the car in my name. This was after they brought in the new car tax rules.

Gingster so pleased your DD could have her infusion at home. My DD came with me to one of mine and found it quite upsetting.

A bit cloudy but some brightness this morning in Oxfordshire. A busy few days as I had to take DD1 to A&E on Thursday afternoon, I returned home at 3am but she had to stay overnight. Very worrying times, she's home now thankfully. I am taking 2 GC for ice cream sundaes and a few treats in our nearby town this afternoon. They've been upset about their poorly mum.
Feeling a little frazzled but I'm sure a coffee and a dog walk will help.
So pleased to hear your DD's infusion went well Gingster, good that she could avoid the masses on the oncology day ward.

Morning Mick, morning All from a cloudy corner of Somerset.

Not much in the way of rain here, a light shower yesterday. Admin and some sorting sorting for me today. Anticipate much contact from our goddaughter who is struggling to care for her mother, dementia is taking a toll on them both. She was distraught in her last call at 10pm yesterday. They are literally across the country from us so no way to take any practical load from her shoulders.

That looks my sort of place greyd, enjoy. You’ve reminded me we need to book a boiler service maw, hope all goes to plan with yours. I’ve been thinking about the folk stuck in Dover. A friend and her family were due on an early ferry today, so stressful. Another practical task accomplished grandmattie, hope you can rest today. You too if you can marydoll.

Good morning everyone from a sunny but still wet Oxfordshire, lots of rain yesterday evening when we all visited the grave of our friend who was killed a year ago next week still no Inquest due to delays caused by ‘Covid’.!!

Curry tonight, then I’ll be following MzOops progress home to
Cornwall from Brighton on my App, she usually travels at night, as it’s much quieter then and doesn’t have to update us on her progress.

New fridge fitted yesterday, old one was purchased in May, wasn’t delivered until June, didn’t work from day 2 and new one delivered yesterday - delays are still due to ‘Covid’!!
Anyway it appears that the previous fitter, who took nearly 2 hours to fit the other fridge, broke both of the hinges and that’s why the fridge was working overtime and it was full of ice, the chaps yesterday took 30 minutes to take one fridge out take it to the truck and fit the new one.

So another easy day for me, hugs for those who are in need of one and let’s hope we all have a good day today with a touch of ‘not to hot’ sunshine.

DD and family were held up for four hours getting to Folkestone yesterday for Euro Tunnel.
Just had a message to say they have driven through the night and are now eating breakfast on the beach before the can get into the villa they have rented. What a journey !

A quiet day for us. Some pottering in the garden and some art/ craft work for me.
